These people never have cars for a car rental company. I needed a compact and because they didn't have it I had to go with a more expensive "standard" car. I didn't have a choice since I need it to get to and from work. I'm writing this because this is the 2nd time this happens, I learned my lesson not to use them again. They have nice banking hours from 8AM-5PM so it makes it very difficult to get there. I'm going with Hertz ASAP. They actually have cars and better hours. read more

Car rental We needed a one-way from NY to VA to move the last of our belongings and the dogs to our new home and Hertz got the job done. I couldn't quite find the size vehicle I needed so my wife called over and the super helpful girl in the office found something that would work for us. Pickup was a snap, the vehicle was clean and ready to go and it made the rest of the experience great. Definitely worth a shot if you need a vehicle in this area. read more

I don't have many words to share about this Hertz location because, luckily, I barely had to interact with anyone! I don't mean that in a mean way, but as a praise to their convenient and useful services. After a car accident, I was set up by the perpetrator's insurance with a rental while I had my own vehicle repaired. I chose this Hertz location because of its close proximity to the shop I chose, Bayport Auto Body. After booking the time and date, I dropped off my car at the shop and a Hertz employee picked me up and took me to the store. After taking down some information and making an initial deposit from my card, I was out before 30 minutes had passed -- that includes the drive. Once my car was repaired, I returned the car with a half tank by dropping it off at the auto shop and calling the Hertz location to pick it up, as per their instructions. Came here after a rental was set up for me through ford and worked with Frank. He was unbelievably pleasant and helped me immediately. He was super nice and informative. The car however, was a piece of junk. It was covered in dings and scratches and the interior was terribly stained. The guys did wash it for me before I received it which was nice, but they need some better cars. read more

Refused to honor their own cancellation policy given the Corona Virus. The email from Hertz sent on 3/12/20 says: We are closely monitoring Coronavirus (COVID-19) and following the current guidance from the leading government and health authorities to ensure we are taking the right actions to protect our customers, employees and the communities where we operate. During this time, we recognize flexibility is more important than ever. At Hertz, you can get the right car to fit your needs without having to pay in advance. As always, Hertz allows you to pay for your rental at the time of pick-up with no cancellation fees. I cancelled my trip to see my daughter in Michigan at school because of the virus concerns, but they refused to honor their own cancellation policy. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ. This place was dirty and dilapidated. Called to reserve a car and we agreed on one. When I got there they said they didn't have it so I took what they got. They car was dirty and smelled terrible of heavy smoke. Had to febreeze the thing down to not gag, which made the car barely habitable. The next day I asked for a different car because I had wanted a medium or full sized sedan, and they stuck me in a SUV. THey said they had a full sized sedan so I drove there and they gave me a POS Toyota Yaris. I couldn't stand to be in the SUV they gave me anymore due to the horrible smell and handling so I took the Yaris. The next day I returned the Yaris, called up Enterprise and asked for a sedan. They were really polite and said they could get me a sedan in three hours. Three hours later I was very happy and driving in an Impala. The moral of the story is avoid Hertz at all costs, the building is dirty and dilapidated, the employees do not act or dress professional, and the cars are disgusting and they cant even get you into a midsize sedan which would be the easiest car to get you into. Never Again!!! As someone who needs to rent cars every now and again I can honestly say we are never coming back to this place.... First of all we received a quote for $252 and didn't find out till way too late to change plans that it would be in fact $760!!!! At least they were kinda close ??? No, not really.... And if you think 760 is going to get you a a nice, luxurious, smooth riding vehicle with this company you're absolutely wrong!!! A crap Kia Sorento, banged up with marks on the tires is what they gave us. The Car was a HUGE hassle to keep straight all the way down to NC from NY. And once we got down to NC the check engine light came on !! Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Wow - I'm really surprised of the bad reviews here! There's really only one explanation IMO, that the people that have a bad experience take the time to write a review and the ones that don't, don't even bother! This is part of the reason that I'm actually taking the time to give this place it's props! I have to say as a gold member for Hertz I've rented all over the US. This place is excellent, fast in/out with no issues or problems. Every car I rented was clean and had no issues. I usually rent here once or twice a month, since the beginning of 2016 for my trip to Boston, avoiding the craziness of the airport and have not had any issues with the staff or the cars. In fact any time I asked for a pick up or drop off the staff was prompt and courteous and most of all on time!! Lately (past month) most of the cars are low mileage and in fact I got one with 150 miles in it. The only reason I'm not giving this place a 5 star rating, is because of the way their pick up area looks, although during the last drop-off it looks like they are finally spending some money to pave the parking area. Honestly in my book they do great, if they improve the parking area and office, then they will be a solid 5 star location and something that Hertz should be copying on other locations as well!! read more

Never before have I been so compelled to write a review for a company, but I am so disgusted, so angry, and so frustrated that I can't help myself. I have gone to Hertz in different areas and for different reasons and have always had a pleasant experience. But, after today, I will NEVER use HERTZ again. Desiree is the most unpleasant employee I have ever met in my life, and that is an understatement. Her customer service skills are absolutely atrocious-- she was rude, unhelpful, and mean. She made me feel completely uncomfortable-- something I have never experienced in any place of business before. She had an attitude the entire time she spoke to me, rolled her eyes several times, and talked down to me as if I was a child. If that isn't bad enough, she literally left, sat down, and used her phone for the rest of the time that I was at HERTZ, leaving the poor young man that was working with her to do everything himself. She did not look up from her phone once, and I was there for a while. I cannot imagine how a company could hire someone who is not only rude to her customers but sits on her phone and makes another employee do everything while she relaxes. Avoid this place. They take your money in two seconds but when it comes giving back the money they owe you, they tell you it takes 72 hours but it's been over a month and it's still a waiting game. Plus they said if it takes longer then we gotta call the their card issuer. This place is ass backwards. These companies always have excuses instead of helping customers. read more

Michael at this location saved the day. Our plans changed & we would have had to go from Patchogue to Massapequa to keep our original agreement. When we spoke with Michael, he and another rep worked it out so we could get the rental in Patchogue. We even extended the visit & were granted the same discount we received online. Our car was clean & a quality rental. He even accommodated us when it came to returning the car to a different location. Very pleased with the service. read more

Place is a dump like all hertz locations. I tried this location too they are horrible overpriced old dirty unwashed cars. Don't waste your time with hertz they are horrible and Avis is also lousy. Go to any other car rental agency but this place and save money on their overpriced junk. read more

I had the most horrible experience. I was picked up by their representative who has a relationship where I was leaving my car for repair. Before he came, I verified it would be the discounted rate of $30 per day. When we pulled up there were NO CARS AT ALL in the parking lot to rent. There was just the car he picked me and another women up in. When we went inside he informed us there was NO CARS available other than the one we came in. Now that one going to be $50 plus taxes. It was also filthy dirty inside. So he knew before he came to pick us up that he didn't have any cars to rent. I declined and was now stranded without a car to get to work. How can you have a car rental business WITHOUT any cars to rent? More importantly he was dishonest to come pick us up KNOWING he didn't have cars to rent and the one he did have would be almost double the price. Dishonest and sneaky. Stay FAR away from this place. I ended up having to take 1/2 a day off at work by the time I rented another car. I rented one at Enterprise Car Rental a few doors down and they were $35 a day, they got me in and out. Stay away . Didn't have what we reserved and kept insisting we take a Prius and that the Prius can fit 5 people comfortable with no problem and fit all our luggage too and great on gas lol ok try to make a jerk out of me lol so we insisted on getting the car we reserved and the girl Jen (manager) out of pure laziness didn't want to get the car reserved but she did cause we insisted we get what we reserved and paid for . I understand it was closing time and Jen wanted to go home but that was her fault. This car was reserved 2 wks Ahead of time . The car was handed to us with no gas and very filthy. That's ok we will let that go . Here's a better one when calling Jen while away telling her we are gonna keep the car 2 more days I asked her to please make note of that and jen said she will . You see dealing with Jen i felt the need to tell her to make note that we are keeping car 2 more days .
