The worst! We uber here to pick ups car, as we had a reservation booked through Expedia. We waited in line and the told us they had no vehicles available. This was a lie because they were giving vehicles to others who had reservations in line. They chose not to honor a 3rd party reservation. We wasted money on rideshare there and back. I scheduled a car rental for this week on Sunday 10/26. My pick up was for noon with a 2 hour grace period. I made it to Hertz at this location @12:50 and thee above image is what I saw when I got there. I went on line, to find a 800 number or even a number to SPEAK with a live person. I finally was able to speak with someone after 1pm after I canceled the rental. A prompt popped up saying, "Are you sure you want to cancel your pickup, you have a 2 hour grace period to pick up your car!" I called until I was able to speak with someone. Now, they will tell you that if you cancel the rental, you lose $100. The prompt also said that (since I scheduled this car on that Friday) I was not in the time frame of cancelation for them to take my $100, but it was difficult to reach anyone. Finally, speaking with someone. The promotion that I received when I scheduled my appointment was lost. I had to pay more for the rental that I had to pick up from the airport, which was absolutely unfair. I felt like I was penalized for my determination, and I wanted the same price that I received initially, which i did not get. The car (a KIA Soul) was filthy. They were about a second away from a 5 star review. They opened on time, service was quick, liked the car and had no problems, was actually confused about the good experience. Then....after dropping off the car on time, we receive a late fee saying we dropped off the car a day late? Keep in mind it's a parking garage where we have to leave a date and time punch card on the dash before we leave. So they are either liars, incompetent, or just assholes. After deciding to cancel a car sharing program, I decided to try this Hertz location since it's close to my home. I had reserved the car via the website..... granted this rental is for a Monday and return it the next day. When I had arrived for my 11am pick up, the staff was friendly. We had went over the car options, rate and the insurance options, which I had declined. Within a few minutes, I was on my way to the car. The explained how to exit the parking ramp with a ticket. The attendants even emailed me photos of the car indicating there weren't any damage to the car. Returning the car was a little confusing since I didn't see the additional parking spots for Hertz. Returning the key, was very painless. Again, the agent was very pleasant. I had received the receipt via a print out and by email. Hopefully, I won't have any issues like the previous renters. Absolutely zero complaints until return. Our reservation started at 8am which was the time this location opens, and we didn't wait a minute past that time before we were helped. We were in our rental car driving down the road less than 10 minutes later. Our car was also very clean and new, so we were very happy with this rental experience since this isn't always the case. Where the problem starts is upon return. The office was closed the morning we returned the car and we couldn't wait 30 minutes for it to open so we returned the keys with the rental folder in their after hours drop box. We were then charged a late return fee of over $100. This is unacceptable as the car was actually returned EARLY. No response from Hertz as it's impossible to get anyone on the phone. I hate how corporate entities can gouge their customers. The main problem I have with this company as a whole is that their reservation system is set up for failure, and employees are unable to assist in remedying a situation from their specific franchise. It sure did take a lot of work on my part to make anything happen. Even though on my end the rental showed it had been changed in the system, it did not show on their end, so the employee at this location made a big deal about telling me that if I did not enter it properly into the system then the reservation would not change, even though I had clearly showed her the change went through on my end with this picture. The reason for the two star review instead of a one star is that they ultimately honored the change after about an hour of waiting. If you are going to use Hertz in the near future, just beware that they will try to get more money from you at every turn. He was doing something and then told me that I had to wait 15 min to get my car. It's not ready when it is at 4 pm. When I told him I am supposed to get the car at 3:30 pm and why is it not ready at 4? He told me that current available cars are out of my price range and if I pay more, I will get that. My wife and I reserved a car and received an email stating that we were not to pay a fee at the counter. When we arrive they ask us to pay a fee at the counter! We tell them and show them the email. They said they can't waive the fee but we should easily be able to contact customer service for a refund. Our road trip awaiting us we decide 'ok fine, no big deal, we'll just call customer service". When we call they say they don't know what the fee is for, and we need to contact the manager at the store. So we do, and guess what? That would be ok except that it wasn't rented at neither a hotel or airport. We tell them that, and they simply say the concession fee still stands. What?!?! But you just said .... It defies logic, and it is completely frustrating to have to deal with such incompetence. I will never rent from this location again. My rental car had two tires that had very low tire pressure, and I had to find a gas station with an air pump to inflate the tires to their proper pressure. I would think this would be something that they would check before renting out the vehicle. Additionally, the windshield washer fluid was completely empty. This proved to be a major problem when dealing with salt build up on the windshield during winter driving. I would also think that this would be something that they would check before renting out the vehicle. When I returned the car, I informed the clerk about these issues. Never rent a car from Hertz! I was a victim of a hit and run - while parked - almost a month ago (the car behind me was also hit). I had purchased rental insurance, so I started claims process with them. I called the police and waited around for the cop to file a report. I then provided all the information I could in an Incident Report with the Hertz office. I was then contacted by a 3rd party claim service they use, ESIS, and that woman not only told me that they had no record of my incident report, not only did they not have the information regarding my rental insurance (which was on the incident report), but that the other parked car was somehow accusing me of hitting him. She gave me the man's name, so I reached out to him on Facebook, informing him that I was aware of the accusation. The ESIS lady then rudely calls me back, completely denying what she had told me. Still, I forwarded her the info on my rental insurance as well as a link to a Google Photos album of 30+ pictures I took of my rental, the other car, and the overall scene. After her ugly attitude 2 weeks ago, yet another 3rd party vendor called - The Claims Company - and they still don't have their shit together, still don't have any of the information I have provided to them at any point in time. They still have a record accusing ME of being the one to hit and run - Hertz is accusing me of a crime in and of itself (which they tried to say the owner of another car was the one who accused me!). They still don't have any rental insurance on record, which I not only provided in writing on my initial incident report, but had given to the initial claims person in an email. Driving without insurance - another crime they are essentially accusing me of. And this time, this woman was going to try to collect $921 from me!! So I returned to this location. Initially, the representative couldn't find my record by name or confirmation #. -- What on earth is going on with your records and administration that no one seems to have record of anything?! -- After helping several other customers (poor woman was the only one there), she finally not only found a copy of the incident report, but when I volunteered to show her accident photos, she said she's already seen them....meaning that the woman today lied to me about not having record of anything. It's horrific that this company is trying to swindle money from customers in such a sneaky, slimy manner. I am overly frustrated with all of the effort I have put forth in providing documentation, filing reports, and still being accused of not providing information, a hit & run, and driving without a license. The worst rental experience of my life: Had a 4PM Hertz reservation that I had booked a month prior. Received a call 2 hours before my pick up time telling me they had "run out of cars" and I couldn't pick it up until 6PM. Turned up at 6PM. Still no cars. Told by Hertz employee Chris Jenkins that there were cars on there way. At 6:30PM Chris told us that the cars were no longer coming but he had spoken to his colleagues at the Hertz on State Street and they had cars there waiting for us. Got a taxi to State Street. Arrived at State Street only to be told Chris Jenkins had in fact lied to us and there were no cars there either Waited in the lobby for an hour. Hertz corporate needs to shut this location down. The customer service here is AWFUL. I spent 2 hours trying to pick up my car between calling Priceline and Hertz customer support all because I didn't have the credit card that I originally made the reservation with (I lost it). Their system wouldn't allow them to change it and the only solution was to create a brand new booking at today's prices (over $400 more than what I originally paid). The guy at the counter said they couldn't match the original price. I eventually was able to get Hertz phone support to make a new booking and match the price. After this entire debacle, the guy at the counter didn't even apologize. Upon returning the car, I told the woman at the counter that I wouldn't be paying for them to fill up the gas on the car because of the experience I had picking the car up. She agreed to take the charge off but of course, I was eventually charged for it. I called and spoke with her and she was going to call her boss to get the refund approved and call me back. The people at the desk were friendly, did not try to upsell me anything, and had the car I had requested. AVOID THIS LOCATION. Below is the email I sent to Hertz last week - no reply as of yet. I think it's important that I share some customer feedback. My last two experiences at the Lincoln Park (IL) location have been terrible. First of all, the lines are always long there (and there is not a Gold Member quick pick up line). I can also tell you that there are no greetings or acknowledgments even to say "hello" or "we'll be with you momentarily". It's like going to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Maybe worse. But here is the main issue from my most recent experience. I was told when I picked up the car that the gas tank was completely filled. It was not filled completely. And it wouldn't have been easy for me to go back inside once I was already in the car. And remember, I already waited in a long line because there were only two people working. But I took a picture of the dashboard with the ticket I was given to exit the parking garage, as proof. When I told the Rep upon returning the car (yesterday), she simply said "ok". After she completed the transaction with me, I asked her if she was going to do anything about what I had mentioned, and she said she would have to talk to her manager. Her manager was ten feet away, but in plain sight, and he was texting on his phone the whole time - even when they were talking about my request. I know he was texting by the way, because his phone wasn't on silent (who does that at work?? - ping, ping, ping). She came back to me, forgot what her manager said, and asked him to repeat it but this time she didn't go to him he just yelled his response from his desk. I couldn't hear him. Rather than asking the Manager to come to us, the Rep asked me to walk to the Manager. How incredibly lazy and unprofessional? He said it was my choice to fill up the gas tank and that there's nothing they can do to credit me. I "didn't have to fill it all the way", he said. I didn't argue with him. I simply said there's no way I would know when to stop filling up the gas tank to the exact same level. He said I could have figured it out, and that there's no way he'd even know how much to credit me. I'm sure there'd be a way to find out how much to charge me if I hadn't filled it to the same bar. At any rate, I hope there's something you can do to make this right. I may continue to use Hertz, but I will absolutely never rent from the Lincoln Park location ever again. read more

Terrible customer service. I wanted to swap out my car for another compact car. They wouldn't help me locate one and couldn't tell me when they were expecting a return. They checked the tire pressure in my car. But in this process they also moved my car and didn't tell so I spent 15 minute wandering around the parking garage trying to find my car before I finally went back in to ask. Let me start this review by saying I have had NUMEROUS issues with Hertz in general as a company in the past. The customer service at the majority of locations has been abysmal and I have been charged for gas when I returned the car with more gas than when it was originally given to me, been given cars that were dirty, charged for things I didn't agree to, BUT, dealing with renting a car at this specific location has been a breeze. There is a woman that works there named Pyna (Pina?) who is absolutely fantastic. Every time I have dealt with her it has been so seamless and she is very quick and efficient. She has been my Hertz angel among a sea of incompetent employees at other locations. I swore to myself I wouldn't rent from Hertz again, but she has redeemed my faith in at least this Hertz. I should've read the previous reviews, but we'd used this location before and had no issues except for a long wait. We booked online and thought we would have a simple pickup. They tried to give us a compact when we had requested a full-size car online, and then tried to sell us on a loss/damage waiver which BOTH of us verbally DECLINED. We got our envelope, contract enclosed, and were shown to a sedan after checking our online order. Only upon our return did we notice we had been charged $188 for their loss damage waiver anyway. After being treated like criminals--we're very sneaky looking seniors--we have ended up having to do the bank/travel agency/corporate ladder to attempt recovering our $$. Two weeks later we're still waiting. The people at the location have never admitted they made a mistake, but did offer us $100 credit to settle, as if we were to blame. Nope. The driver-side front tire of the car that I rented from this place (a KIA Sorento) has a slow leak, so much so that I had to find a gas station with an air pump to pump up the tire every couple of hours. First of all, drive a car with a leaky tire is NOT safe! Second, it was such a hassle! When I rent a car, especially from Hertz, I expect a safe vehicle in good condition that provide me with the mobility and convenience, not extra trouble! BTW. When I called their Customer support about the problem, the person I spoke to (after 20+ minutes of waiting) had the audacity to tell me that I will be charged in the event that they (Hertz) had to send someone over to put on the spare tire. So let me understand it correctly: First they give me a car with a tire problem, then instead of apologizing and compensate me for the trouble, they are going to charge me for the problem?? I would give this zero stars but the system won't allow me. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. They have lost the car and keys from the locked drop box and are charging me every day. I rented a car from this location and returned the car this past Labor Day. Naturally the location was closed due to the holiday so I was told to park the car in any open spot in the parking structure and drop the keys in the drop box. I assumed everything is being caught on camera so no worries. Well there are no security cameras with the exception of the enterace and they are telling me there is no video evidence of my car entering or leaving the parking structure. So we're dealing w/a missing car and it's not like they were calling me to inform me that I haven't turned in the car, they just charge you and when you go to this location to get to the bottom of the problem, there's only one person on staff and I'm told to wait until they deal with the rest of the customers waiting to rent a car. Then the manager tells me to open a police report for the missing vehicle even though the car wasn't stolen from me, it was stolen from their parking structure so the police won't take a stolen vehicle report from me unless I want to put in a false claim. I called Hertz customer service and told them that the location manager told me to open a police report and the corporate office told me I shouldn't do that. I was finally given the vehicle control number and told them my story. I finally talked to the wright person because they assumed responsibility of the investigation and told me they would contact me within 48 hours and to stop contacting/dealing with this location. Meanwhile I'm getting charged $114 per day because the contract isn't technically closed and I'm told there's no way to stop the charges until the investigation is complete. So yeah, I'll get refunded but this has slowly bled my checking account day by day b/c I don't have access to these funds. In closing, I don't trust this location. They have poor customer service, I was told to open a police report when the car wasn't stolen from me personally, and they don't have security cameras throughout the parking structure. The worst rental store ever! I live in Chicago, a big city and I decide to not have a car, and I often rent a car when I need, and I never had so bad experience that I had in this rental store. The lady who attended me in a Sunday Morning even look at my face when I arrived, She didn't explain anything for me and didn't walk me to the car. When I asked about use my car and my father drives she didn't explain correctly to me and she charged me an extra driver and my father was the only driver. I didn't show her my car license driver and she put me as a driver and told her manager that she saw my driver license (that was at home). Getting information out of anyone is like pulling teeth. To get anything done, I had to go above and beyond to make their job easy and in the end, still got the short end of the stick. They could seriously automate their "customer service" department since the best approach with Hertz is to do it yourself if you want things done right. Specific issues w/o a detailed rant- poor inter office communication, unorganized response to customers' needs, and being left on hold for an excess of 10 minutes until the line just cut off. On a Saturday morning there are at least 4-5 people who have come through waiting for cars and there is nothing available. However, they are able to get cars for "gold members". In this type of situation they should be able to give the "gold" member cars to any customer. Service man claims he cannot get a hold of anyone, which is rather unfortunate from him. This location, or perhaps all Hertz has terrible customer service. I had a reservation for a day rental 2 weeks in advance. When I arrived to pick up my car, there were none available. I was told they attempted to call but I had received no voicemail. When I inquired why I didn't receive an e-mail notification, I did not receive a response. I left feeling frustrated and upset as they said there was nothing they could do for me, unless I wanted to wait until the evening to pick up a car. If I could give this place no stars I would. I reserved a car that cost 40$. I had it less than 24 hours and intended to return it, Hertz knew this, before a full 24 hours. Somehow I was charged for 318 dollars.No accidents, scratches, nothing.So, Why? Because their systems were down and they couldn't "close me out" electronically so I was charged for a solid 2 more days because someone couldn't confirm that I actually handed the keys back to front desk. This is my 3rd time using this location. Will never do it again. I pray that I never have to talk to customer service on the phone- unclear, mumbling their speech. This is by far the worst Hertz renal location I've experienced. I waited in line for over 15 minutes when only 2 people were in front of me- clearly the facility was understaffed. The car I received was dirty and only had a 1/4 tank of gas. Additionally it was an outdated model with no back-up camera or electric clicker. I have had many rental cars for work and I'm very disappointed in this quality of car and service. I am considering switching my loyalty program to Enterprise. I cannot believe how poor the customer service is at this location, not only just employees but sadly also the management as well. I am a frequent customer at this Hertz as my family lives out of state so I am renting a car atleast every other month. My most recent experience was bad enough that I will not be going back and I urge other to also not take a risk and rent a car from here!!! I rented a car for thanksgiving ( 4 days for $220) I returned my car and it took a few days for the payment to post to my account. Once it did I was immediately alarmed because they had taken $329 out of my account ( $109 more than it was supposed to be) I called that morning and spoke with Devin who informed me that an employee got my keys " mixed up with someone who rented for 6 days so they charged me for 6 days "and told me that I would not be reimbursed for a month!!!! This was on Dec 2, my reason for saying this is rent is due Dec 1, therefore that extra $109 that was taken out of my account, was not financially acceptable. I obtained the supervisor Chris Pellagrinos # and Jeff from the west loop location. Well turns out Chris is on vacation ( the employee gave me his cell wtf?) so Chris says he will get this situated himself or by another manager by latest Monday by COB. I'm frustrated at this point but patient since he seems to be helpful. Come Monday... no word from Chris. I call him and speak with Will who is " in training and cant assist me" on Tuesday morning, Will informs Chris is on the phone and will call me back. No word by 3:00 so I call this "supervisor" Chris phone again and of course he does not pick up. I leave a detailed message stating the urgency on this matter... still no call. Wednesday morning comes and I call Hertz and speak with another employee " in training who cant assist me but will relay the message" I am beyond fed up at this point so I contact the other supervisor of west loop location Jeff. I call this office and speak with Caprice an employee who makes me provide 32 different things to prove I am who I say I am and I leave a message stating the urgency again. Still no call back on my way home tonight I gave Chris another call and what do you know..no pick up. This is by far the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. While this $109 may not mean much to these unprofessional poorly servicing Hertz employees and supervisors, this was all that I had for groceries. So me repetitively calling.. there was a reason!!!!!! I have still have not heard back and I still am out $109. I'm sitting here waiting for a car I reserved a week in advance, along with 6 other people who made reservations in advance. I've been waiting for an hour and they're saying they don't have any cars. I don't understand how reservations and inventory don't match up. The most frustrating part is that they're understaffed and the employee isn't communicating anything to us. Just short, minimal answers when asked directly. It would be helpful to at least know what they know or don't know. Poor infrastructure and poor customer service. read more

Adding one more negative review to the pile. They both double charged and over charged me for my car rental. When I went to their store to settle down the aforementioned issue, I received probably one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Employees are fully incompetent to correct their mistakes as they told me to come back after three days because their store manager was out of town for vacations! I emailed the store manager about my issue. Five days have passed since then without any response.. I strongly recommend everybody not to rent a car from here. read more
