All I needed was to book a car to be dropped off and returned at Signature Aviation. There was no option to book it that way via the app. After going back and fourth between Hertz and Signature, nobody could give me a straight answer on how to book. They eventually cancelled the reservation that I made and made me a new one from scratch. After the rental was complete, I was charged for 2 days despite only having the car for a little over 4 hours. Every single person I talked to on the phone acted like it was their first day. Nobody had the answers to my questions and had to ask the manager every single detail. I travel for a living and I've never had a more painful interaction in my life. read more

Our flight arrived at the Cedar Rapids Airport after 5:00 pm on a Saturday evening, and they were closed. We had a reservation tonight to arrive at 6:30 pm, but bad weather at DIA caused a departure delay of about an hour. (Arrival at 7:30 pm instead.) Another couple from Florida had the same problem, and they were just as bewildered and frustrated as we were. My husband is a Gold Club member and has been for many years. Why would any car rental company accept and give you a reservation at an airport when flights will be arriving all evening, if they are going to be closed? What a cruel way to treat loyal customers! Shame on you all who thought this was an acceptable way to operate a business. We are currently staying in a hotel nearby, waiting for Hertz to open in the morning so we can try to obtain the car we should have received tonight. I use Hertz all over the country and have rented from this location multiple times. Usually, I have no issues but this car was inadequate. The radio was not operable (antenna issue I'm guessing) and dome light did not work either. I have to go back in about a month and am will likely use another company. read more

BEWARE OF BOGUS FUEL CHARGES! The staff do not care if you fueled the car or not (based on other people's reviews as well). I stopped by the QuikTrip next to the airport to fuel and then I parked the car, filled out the form properly with mileage and gas information, and returned the keys and form to the counter. They charged me for gas! Now I have to send my receipt into Hertz to get my money back. This is the epitome of LAZINESS!! Go check the car! But of course that is too much to ask. Easier for them to bill you and then you have to take the time to fight the charge. read more

I usually don't give 5 star reviews for rental car companies - most of the time they don't deserve it. In this case - absolutely. Our flight was delayed coming into Cedar Rapids and we would not arrive till midnight, when the original reservation was for 3 PM. I called and explained this situation - the woman I spoke with was extremely friendly and accommodating. She realized I was going to miss getting the car before they closed and helped make arrangements to leave me the keys and get the car after hours. She didn't have to do this. She didn't have to go the extra mile and just could have had us pick up the car in the morning - but no, she wanted to help. Fantastic support and customer service. Very disappointed with Hertz Rentals. I stopped in Cedar Rapids on my way to the airport and filled the rental car up with gas. I took the car and parked it where the outside attendant told me to park it. He said to take the counter person the key and the mileage on the car. Granted I am in a hurry to get to the airport and forgot to get my receipt or take a picture of the dash to show the gas tank was full. When I got to the counter, the Hertz representative asked for the keys, asked for the rental agreement, asked for the mileage, and asked if the car was full of gas. I told her the the needle was a little past full. She gave me my receipt and off I went to catch my flight. I took time at Atlanta airport to look over the receipt, and noticed a 65.93 charge for filling the vehicle with 13.2 gallons of gas at $9.99 a gallon. I called Hertz this morning and of course got somebody from an offshore call center. I told her the situation and asked what they were going to do. She said they would have to get their verification team to look into the matter. Wrong answer. I asked to speak to a supervisor or call the Cedar Rapids Hertz Rental counter. She couldn't do either. So a customer's word means nothing. Hertz also dropped the ball because nobody even came out to look over the car. So unless Hertz rectifies this today, they will be added to the list of companies I won't use again. But I bet if I was a Hertz Gold Card member, things would have been different read more

$93 for Toyota Corolla for four-day rental. Rental cars can such a disappointment. A few weeks ago I had an awful rental experience with Fox Rental car at LAX when I was provided a Suzuki with 28,000 miles and parts that didn't work. All that I really want with a car rental is a clean car that with which all of the parts worked. My Corolla was new with 858 miles on it when I drove it out of the lot. Everything worked and I got great gas milage on my trip to Vinton and Newhall, Iowa with a calculated 34 miles per gallon. Got a great rate using AAA discount which took $9 per day off my rate. This is one of the poorest run automobile rental agencies, and that's saying a lot. Criticisms: Rental fares are over-priced for what you get Customer service is barely adequate, while overly aggressive on selling add-ons with dubious utility to the consumer About a month after I returned my rental, I received a notice in the mail indicating I owed $100 for a speeding violation. This $100 included a $30 handling fee to compensate Hertz (What?!, this sounds like a shady business dealing by Hertz and the local authorities). Secondly, the following was not included in the letter: street or address where the violation occurred, a picture of my license plate, my precise recorded speed, and the posted speed limit. All of which would be part of standard protocol for writing an actual moving violation to a human being. When I have a moment I'm going to try to get the $105 back that they automatically deducted from my credit card. I have little patience with businesses like this. read more

I would recommend that when you pick-up your car, you review your bill very carefully before leaving the counter. I made a reservation online. When I arrived at the counter, the rep told me "We have a ______ available" and I said "That's fine." The day before returning the car, I was checking out the receipt and I noticed an upgrade fee and when I checked, the receipt amount did not match the amount from my online reservation. I called and explained that it wasn't called out to me that there was an upgrade fee or even that I was receiving an upgrade. After going back and forth the rep finally agreed to help me when I returned the car. When I returned the car, I still had to argue my case, because the "deal" they offered still meant that I was paying $75 over my agreed upon amount. The manager would not come out and talk with me directly. She stayed in the back and made the rep be the go between. I was finally able to get the bill to a reasonable amount, but I don't think I will rent from them again unless the other two agencies are even worse! My expectation would be that the rep says "I have a _______ available for $15 more a day" when trying to upgrade you and that the manager deal with me directly instead of acting like the Wizard of Oz and talking from behind a wall. The car and the rest of the experience was fine. I think if you check your bill CAREFULLY before you leave, you'll be fine. I just don't want to do business with a company that I think may be less than honest. read more

She explained the rate in great detail, and we did go over some options on the rental class. She was very fast and efficient, the process wasn't rushed at all - and best of all she had at least 3-4 other parties ahead of us that she dealt with seemingly calmly, collected and composed. Gave each and every one a personalized and friendly interaction, and all of the other customers including us, left the rental location happy and satisfied. I rented a nice Chrysler 300 on a Hotwire upgrade, the car was awesome and the price was very reasonable. My only complaint would be that you need to make sure to read the fine print in your paperwork, I had an unexpected $200 charge/hold to my debit card. I understand that there is paperwork given when you rent a car, but it would be good customer service to state this charge at the time of rental rather than it just appear. I mean really who reads all the fine print, other than that they were great to deal with. read more

Friendly, quick, and for the intermediate car price I was thrilled with the car. I've rented at a lot of big airports, and this is not an automated pick up or return but also no ride in a van to get to the car, you can just walk right out the door and boom you are there. So this review isn't so much about the SW Airport Hertz as much as Hertz the company in general. As the girl at the counter was a doll. In February I rented a car from Hertz. We were told the total was $48 dollars for 2 days. I told the person working that that was a great price for 2 days. I mentioned many times that its so cheap for 2 days. She asked if i needed to rent a car seats. My sister already had plenty of those so we said no. So the weekend is over and my sister called me to inform me that they still charged me 25 for the car seats. I said ok, I'll call and take care of it. I call them and get the car seats reversed. (rental cost now at $25). they say sure no problem we can take care of that. About 3-4 weeks later (March now) Im checking my CC statement. and I now have a charge from Hertz for $116. Of course i call them to see why I was charged almost a month later for this car rental with no notification as to these charges. My receipt says my total was for $48. They say that the attendant that helped us applied a promo code from someone else's account and that WE should have known, as it was so cheap. i asked to speak to a supervisor. They transfer me. I explain what had happened and and why I was being charged for their employees mistake. And that while I do understand that this amount isn't life or death for me, I shouldn't be held liable for their employee's mix up. her response? Well someone has to pay it and Hertz isn't going to. I told her that I felt i shouldn't have to pay it either. Response: "Well if you disagree you can dispute the charge with your bank." So I file a dispute with my bank. they have 46 days to respond to the dispute. 46 days later, I get a letter from my bank that the charges have been reversed. Then beginning of June I start receiving notices from Hertz that I owe them $86. Of course I call Hertz again (5th time). and explain everything. they tell me that it looks i had the charges reversed and thats why I owe the $86 that the total was $116 and i already paid $25. I tell them I would like to speak to a supervisor again. this time they tell me they are not able to transfer me to a supervisor and that one can call me back in about 3-5 business days. I said fine. 3-5 business days later: Still no call. Husband calls (he's normally better at getting things taken care of as I tend to be too nice on the phone). Again a supervisor will call you in 3-5 business days. Still no call. Then July we get a letter in the mail saying we still owe $86 to Hertz. Threw it away. Didn't seem like they cared to talk to us to figure this out anyways. August (about a week ago), I get a letter in the mail telling me that my account with Hertz has been closed and any points or rewards I earned will be forfeited (oh darn cause I really wanted to use their services again after this anyways?). And finally today I get a letter informing me that i was sent to collections from them for failing to pay. read more

I've rented Hertz many times over the years and it's pretty standard typically. This location however I am not impressed with. I had rented a "Corolla or similar" online, upon my arrival in Cedar Rapids I walked up to the counter, I have to say the woman working the desk was very polite and personable. Here's the issue - she says to me "what do you want to drive today?" I said "What are my options, I do not want to pay anything extra so keep it in the same level." She tells me there's a Toyota Camry or Mazda 6 in which I reply "oh those are in the same range as the Corolla? I guess I will take the Camry".... Let's fast forward 8 days to me returning the car - I was informed that I owed $80+ for the upgrade fee! SERIOUSLY? I was in shock, thankfully the woman working the counter that day was trying to help reverse the fees after I explained the story although the computer kept error-ing out and wouldn't actually reverse the fees. She asked for help and who was it? the same woman that put me in the Camry! GRRR!! Anyway the computer wouldn't reverse my fees and I had a flight to catch so they were to call or email me with the results and total charges. I never got a call or email, I was about to call but looked at my card statement and noticed they only charged me for the fuel that they should have and not the "upgrade". On top of the hassle of a delayed flight, I had to go to the counter who had me classified as a no show. I rented a car for two weeks. Linda the manager was very nice when I picked it up and did not try to sell any packages I did not need and even told me that the pre-paid package I had bought included everything that I actually needed. She was so nice! Three days before I returned the car (at another location) the ABS light came on and the tires were screeching so I did not dare drive any longer distances. At the drop off location I asked if they could do anything about it since I wasn't able to use the car properly. They said they couldn't but I would need to call the pick-up location. I was on the phone with Shannon who was very helpful (cursing the weather :P) and immediately took off $75. I have already picked up another rental from Hertz and am very happy with their service. I can not say enough great things about the help I received at this location. Shawna (sp?) was AMAZING. I rented a car in Minnesota, drove it to Cedar Rapids and half way through our drive we noticed that anything over 60mph the car was shaking like crazy. We got to CR safely, but I called the next day to a local location to see about swapping the car out (we have to drive back to MSP a few days later) and they said "call back friday we will see if we have anything"...I called the location I rented from in MN, she said "ummm...well...." So I called the airport location kind of expecting the same response, but instead Shawna answered and RIGHT away was like "Oh my gosh, get down here and we will get you in to something else!!"...I arrived, went in, and she immediately hooked me up. She put me (and my little girls) in a MUCH safer car (and a larger one!), no questions asked. She was so friendly, so helpful, and just a fun person to talk to. I could not thank her enough. The rates for renting from an airport location are always so much higher, so I rented offsite - and learned my lesson. Thank you again so much! read more

I have rented at other Hertz location in Cedar Rapids before and the experience was commendable. But at the airport the lady at the counter was unfriendly and would only answer my question with a single word. It appeared as if I was begging her to give some simple details. Above all the Car was awful with the smell of Cigarette smoke and the floor had a dirty white jelly like substance... eewww which was not properly cleaned up. And the plastic pockets in the doors had holes on them as if someone has unscrewed the material and stole some parts away. I am a customer who rents cars for 250 days an year and I would not rent at this location again. read more
