My journey led me to Ames, Des Moines, and Iowa City in-between. Costco Travel also gave me a decent price. Due to Consumer Reports ratings, I probably would not buy a VW car, although I still have fond memories of my old and sporty VW Scirocco. What I appreciated most about this car was comfort, power when I needed it, and the ease that my 97 year-old Dad could get in and out of the car. Gas mileage was decent and trunk storage was ample enough for my luggage and my Dad's walker. The Enterprise representative at the airport was courteous and efficient. No one was at their desk when I returned the car early Saturday morning, and the final bill was in my inbox within a couple hours of me dropping it off. I was also happy with the easy walk from the terminal to the car and straightforward return.

The rental desk at the airport had its phone system set up to reject incoming calls, and all other Enterprise customer service numbers either could not say if the desk would be open late, or simply refused to answer. The delay was not their fault, but refusing to answer the phone is inexcusably unprofessional. I will not rent from Enterprise again.

They eventually cancelled the reservation that I made and made me a new one from scratch. After the rental was complete, I was charged for 2 days despite only having the car for a little over 4 hours. Every single person I talked to on the phone acted like it was their first day. Nobody had the answers to my questions and had to ask the manager every single detail. I travel for a living and I've never had a more painful interaction in my life.

We had a reservation tonight to arrive at 6:30 pm, but bad weather at DIA caused a departure delay of about an hour. (Arrival at 7:30 pm instead.) Another couple from Florida had the same problem, and they were just as bewildered and frustrated as we were. My husband is a Gold Club member and has been for many years. Why would any car rental company accept and give you a reservation at an airport when flights will be arriving all evening, if they are going to be closed? What a cruel way to treat loyal customers! Shame on you all who thought this was an acceptable way to operate a business. We are currently staying in a hotel nearby, waiting for Hertz to open in the morning so we can try to obtain the car we should have received tonight. (The other car rental companies were sold out tonight,)

While I accept the payment as resolution of this complaint, I made it clear to owner of the local Budget Car Rental Agency the information he received from his employees in this case has been completely inaccurate. I also made it clear that my complaint was sent to Budget HQ in Oklahoma, including the case number I was given by the Budget 800 number agent I spoke to on the night of this event. Despite this complaint being faxed and sent via US mail to the Budget Corp Headquarters as I was instructed by the 800 number agent, his corporate HQ ignored my complaint and never informed him. His first and only information concerning this case came when I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Oklahoma, (BBB CASE#: 38049193). Just another reason I will never use Budget again, they can't be bothered to respond to complaints they receive directly, only when forced to by the Better Business Bureau. I have traveled and rented cars three time since this event from other rental car agencies.
