Worst car rental experience ever. You wait in line for an hour, just to wait another hour for the car. Oh did I mention that there was no AC because the doors to the building were broken? Thank goodness for a strong breeze outside. It was cooler outside than inside. I will never rent a car from these guys again. If you want to jump off the plane and start to enjoy your Hawaiian trip, stay away from these guys. read more

I always book a car directly through dollar rent a car. Though I took a chance and booked one for those pre-payed on-line sites that you find out later who will be the car rental company that you will be assigned to. We got Hertz. I ordered a economy car (didn't want anything fancy) just a car for 2 night stay. They upgraded us, that not unusual most rental car establishments do that. But he upgraded up to " a maui beater" ?!! WTF!!! I wanted to send it back but their lines were incredibly long. Our Maui friends had a great laugh. Hey, even when I lived in Maui I never had piece of crap vehicle that we were "upgraded" to. Oh well! One for the books!! read more

We have always had a good experience with Hertz except here. We are a gold card member. Arrived 8/17/15 about 1pm.We made reservations weeks in advance. Our name was not on the board, to locate our rental. We waited an hour in line. General reservation line, people waited two hours to speak to someone at the reservation desk. Another hour for the car. The car was clean inside but was covered in baked on bird poop. It appeared people were cutting in line in front of us all the time. Two older women were yelling at each other because one thought the other was cutting in line. Hertz staff got involved before it got physical. The rental return line had hundreds of cars waiting to be cleaned and washed, staff appeared not concerned about prepping the cars. I would not recommend this Hertz agency. read more

Paid extra to rent from Hertz for the convenience of gold service. Got off the plane, left half my family at the baggage claim, jumped on shuttle, got to Hertz, first one off the bus, looked for my name on the Board. No dice. No car waiting. Got in line at the "Gold" Counter. One person working. Multiple people working at non-gold counter but those lines just as long. Half hour later, finally got to counter. Was told they "were behind." No kidding. Told me it would be another half hour for the car while I waited with my eight year old who at this point was starving. Ended up over an hour for the car. Accommodation was $41 of a $400+ rental. I was the first person off the bus. There were at least ten people in the gold line when I left. Those people were looking at 2+ hours wait for their car. They had cars, just not processing them. Complete disorganization. While on line I messaged on Facebook with Hertz. They asked me for my gold number and reservation number, thanked me for my patience and said they were immediately looking into it. Never heard back. Pretty much the worst customer service ever, barely apologetic. Will NEVER rent from Hertz again. They know how to take the reservation, they just don't know how to..... read more

Only three people working the counter and none of the kiosk worked. It was a terrible experience since we had to wait about two hours just to be helped. You would think they would know when their reservations were coming in. Use enterprise. read more

With Hertz gold plus, I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Most of my time was spent trying to find the 800s. service when I dropped the car off was better than I get at some other airports. I got a beautiful car. The drive from the terminal is quick and the bus is nice. Didn't have the AC on but it is Hawaii, who cares! read more

We love this location of Hertz....renting a car is so easy using text messages on date of arrival. Only complaint is the rental car had several dings and small dents (not a big deal), but one VERY large area of back bumper was damaged. No problem, we noted on the form used to indicate previous damage, and the girl at the exit window reassured us that it was fine and not to worry about it. But when we returned it the young man that walked around our rental made comments like "Wow, what happened here?" We were in a hurry to catch flight, so didn't carry on conversation about it. I do want to say that we were not charged anything pertaining to body repair work for the car, but in the future I think we will insist on driving out with an undamaged vehicle rather than stressing about it later. read more

I want to give a huge huge shout out to Marjorie who assisted me and my family last week with renting two cars on December 26th. She was extremely patient, understanding, calm, kind, and helpful while my family was trying to figure things out with renting two cars. I have to say the BEST customer service I have ever received. I work in the world of customer service and I don't even know if I would have handled this crazy situation with the panache and grace that Marjorie did.. Thank you again Marjorie - you ROCK!!! Horrible. Do not reserve a vehicle here. I did everything online in advance including paying. I was 3rd in line so the wait wasn't too bad to check in. However, waiting for the car....ridiculous. We have been waiting over an hour & a half. We have seen 6 more shuttle buses come & go & people who arrived after us are receiving their cars. When talking to the front desk they said they are behind & the wait could be up to 3 hours. I reserved a car for 1pm & you want me to wait until 4pm to get it? Completely unacceptable. I will not be a repeat customer. read more

Oh goodness, if I could give this place 0 stars, I would! I have never had an experienced worse than the one I had here. Upon arriving for our Maui vacation, I dealt with an extremely rude agent. She told me where my car was and when I went out to get it, there was no vehicle. So I had to go all the way back & it was a nightmare dealing with this woman a second time. It took forever to resolve this issue and on my way out, she screamed a sarcastic " you're welcome!" to me across the room. Management was not much better. I was supposed to get a full size car and they gave me a compact one instead. Yet, they insisted that it was full size (it wasn't). Extremely disorganized, very chaotic, and nobody on the staff it was helpful or pleasant. Not a good way to begin a vacation. read more

Read the contract and don't trust a word they say! There is a reason why most Hertz especially this one are rated low. Try Googling for any complaint/scam with Hertz, and you will see plenty. They will scam you in any way to make extra profit. I specifically asked for "no insurance" at the beginning. I asked why there were additional charges, and they briefly explained to me that those are all just deposits and will be returned later. Well, good job to them. Usually I review contracts beforehand, but I decided to trust their layman's term one time. Why? Because of Coronavirus concern. After flying in tight airplane for over 6 hours I only thought about quickly getting to my hotel room and take a hot shower. And now I've gotten charged with this ridiculously high $34/day insurance rate called LDW. Oh, and don't try to call Hertz for any type of compensation. At most, you will receive a criticism for being too stupid to review the first page of the contract that had included this insurance charge. Yeah, their customer service sucks. read more

This was the absolute worst car rental experience. I had pre reserved my car and checked in giving an arrival time 1 hour before we actually arrived. I have been to this Hertz several times and with one exception, the lines are EXTREMELY LONG! Presently there is not one kiosk in working order. They only have one agent for general rentals. If you don't want to wait an hour, there are 3 agents for those who reserved their car thru a packaged trip and 3 agents for gold club. I guess the rest of us are chopped liver and not worth 2 more agents. The only good thing about this location is the easy drop off. read more

Are you kidding me? July and you only have 2 people working???? Tried to up-sell me on another vehicle while people are waiting in a line out the door and around the building. Worst experience ever! We paid for everything ahead of time, including the rental insurance. We waited for over an hour in line. The lady tried to sell us an upgrade and insurance THREE TIMES after we told her NO three times. She was also extremely rude. I am writing this for potential customers. It would be nice if Hertz cared and made some changes but based on what we saw the employees there don't care one bit about their customers. We reserved a car ahead of time and took a shuttle to the location without a problem. Then we waited over half an hour in line just to check in. We were told the car would be right out. After talking to others waiting outside (in a stuffy hot area packed with people) we realized we were all told the same thing..but there were no cars for us! What's the point of a reservation if they know we will be there that day but don't have any cars on the lot? The reason we, and other customers, are so upset by this experience is that Hertz employees LIE! They tell you the car is being washed, but it's actually not even on the lot yet! Customers are waiting for someone to drop off a car, be inspected and cleaned all while we are already there. Well over an hour later we saw an employee dry the car in front of us, slowly, with one little towel. After long flights people are tired and hungry. How can they make us wait for hours standing up (there's almost no seating)!! There isn't even a single restaurant around the rental center to eat while you wait. A customer next to us had been waiting over 2 hours with several young kids, that is NOT OK!! I observed many people go back inside and complain about the wait. Not a single employee showed any concern or sympathy at all. I would rather pay more somewhere else and be treated with respect. There are many options for rentals in this area, DO NOT RENT HERE! read more

FAIL #1: We waited in line for quite some time, though we were second in line. They told us to take the car in spot #53. I did. When I was at the gate, the person there told me I had the wrong car. I had to go back to spot #53, unload my car (including both the child seats I had installed), go back inside, and find out what happened. They just told me the wrong spot. FAIL #2: They found a different car in a different spot an I loaded my stuff in and drove away. Only after reaching the other side of the island did I realize that the back window would not close. FAIL #3: I tried for hours to contact someone -- ANYONE who gave half of a sh!t on the phone. I kept getting rerouted until I called emergency roadside assistance. They said that nobody was likely to be at the office (at 4 pm), so I could leave a message. I did so, and never heard back. FAIL #4: Upon returning the car, the person who checked in the car was completely indifferent about the fact that I spent half of my first in Maui day trying to contact someone about their broken car. Only after pressing her did she realize that she should at least say sorry. Gee, I wonder if she really meant it. read more

EPIC FAIL! Our experience was so bad that I was inspired to write my first review. There are three lines at the rental building. One is for gold members, one is for people who booked through some special company, paradise tours or something, and the third line is for people who made a res through Hertz. The third line, which I was in, has one person servicing it. There was an old customer at the front of the line. Neither he nor the employee had the sense to realize that there were 20 people or so behind him and so he and his family went on for about 30 minutes.going through all sorts of questions and whatnot. Maybe he had never rented a car before. Maybe the employee had never rented a car before. 30 minutes later, the line moved one person forward. Rental car soviet style! I'm not a patient guy, and I had my 3 kids all over me, flopping, whining, leaning on me, asking the same questions over and over again, etc., but I managed to keep my cool. Others, however, did not, and there seemed to be some advantage to blowing your top and yelling at people. It took about an hour to get to the counter and after I banged through the usual nonsense in about 10 min (the employee took the time to hit me with some of her religious beliefs) I got ... not a contract, not a set of keys, but informed that I was on a waiting list. So we proceeded outside into the heat for another 30 min or so. The contract eventually arrived with the cart supposedly to follow. I saw the car come out of the wash and some dude parked it by the back fence. It sat there for about 10 min and I asked another guy what was up. He checked and said it was ready. They just thought rather than drive it up to me they would just leave it back there for a while. At the end of the trip when I returned the car the guy said I wasn't in the system and that they had closed out the contract the day I'd rented the car. I guess they didn't miss the car for a week? Good thing they didn't call the cops! If you have the misfortune to use these guys, I would advise you to take charge and unfortunately you probably have to be a jerk to get their attention. read more

Avoid at all costs. It took us over an hour to get our car. The manager had to approve every transaction and had to jump from cashier to cashier to approve. - Car was infested with ants. - Rental line took forever to pick up the car - they are definitely on "island time" and will chat forever even when the line is 50 deep. - The lady at the counter sold me on getting gas through them because it was cheaper and easier than filling up before returning, NEVER told me I was prepaying for a FULL tank of gas no matter how full the tank was. Didn't know that one til the bill came. - They never registered my car as returned so I received multiple calls and letters saying I need to return the car and started deducting money from my account because the vehicle was "overdue". I *think* that's finally sorted after multiple phone calls. - Seriously bad. Don't use them. Wish I could go back and redo this, worst part of my honeymoon. read more

Terrible customer service. Over 1 hour wait to receive a car when you already have a paid rental booked. Workers are grouchy and certainly are not representing a warm welcome to the Island. My first experience of Hawaii was waiting an hour and a half in line at Hertz (and there were fewer than 10 parties in front of us, with two people waiting on customers), only to be "helped" by a surly, condescending person who, in response to a question we had, actually stopped, looked off in the distance and laughed dismissively (read, "what a dumb ass!") before answering the question as if repeating it for the fifth time to a misbehaving child. After enduring that lovely experience, we then waited half an hour for our car. While waiting, the guy retrieving cars said to another customer, "I can't find this car anywhere on the lot. You're going to have to go back to the counter and ask them about it." We finally walked outside and looked around. We found it and decided to just load up and go since it was clear no one was running the show. That is by far the worst, slowest, rudest experience I've ever had renting a car from any company in any location - and I have been renting cars at least three or four times a year for about the last 20 years. I will NEVER use Hertz again. It's obvious they hate tourists and resent serving them. Which is like working in an elementary school when you hate small children. read more

I'm sure I'm not the first to write a review while still waiting for a car. Listen to the reviews and steer clear unless you want to spend the first day of your Hawaiian vacation waiting for a car in the most discombobulated rental car agency I've ever seen. I'm really glad we had no set plans on this first day or it would have been money wasted. At the time of this review we've been waiting well over an hour in line. From what I understand once you get through the line and check in you get the pleasure of waiting around some more for somebody to call your name. We originally had a reservation elsewhere, but this deal popped up and seemed to good to pass up. Pass it up. Move on. Pay a little more and save some precious vacation time and sanity (especially when waiting with hungry, thirsty, and tired children). read more

made a hotwire reservation that needed a few days reduction, due to change of plans after reserving car. hotwire refused to reduce the charge from 8 days to four, so i knew i was going to overpay for the car big time. ok fine, not hertz fault. mine for using hotwire. we were first in line but after listening to the two agents joke around with those customers for half an hour I went to the self service kiosk. big mistake! Brain was very nice and pleasant, but by the end of our conversation, I was feeling very uneasy about his charges for insurance, which I already had through hotwire, and an upgrade he was pushing hard core. I figured I'd only be charged the difference between the hotwire figure and the new insurance, but there was an extra 455 taken out of my account! I had a charge from both hotwire and now hertz! I went from spending 400 on an eight day rental to being charged 755 bucks on a four day rental!!! I was nearly in tears, and instantly walked to the booth and demanded a manager, who was produced without delay thankfully. he checked the records and immediately explained the problem, which I'd already figured out. brain completely disregarded the hotwire reservation and charged me for an upgrade I had told him repeatedly I didn't even want, as well as for insurance I'd already paid for through hotwire! thankfully, after explaining to the manager several times that No I didn't want an upgrade and wanted a smaller car, he voided it and fixed everything and used the voucher on the rental, so I wasn't out the money I had already spent online. next time I'll stick to budget or enterprise though and avoid the hotwire/hertz scam altogether! read more

Hertz - Escalade - Car Rental Near Me - Kahului, Hawaii

Our last trip to Maui happened to be at the exact same time as several medical conventions (at least 9) were happening on the island. Needless to say things were extremely busy at the airport and especially at the rental car agencies. We needed to make a few last minute changes to the car that was originally reserved for us including adjusting some of the billing details. Our customer service representative, Marjorie Croz was an absolute SUPERSTAR and totally took care of us...she made us feel like we were the most important people on the island.
