I guess I got this location on a good day because I had amazing service. I'm a hertz gold 5 star member. Got my carfirmation email upon landing at Kahului Airport. Noticed I was upgraded from a Premium car to a Luxury Cadillac Sedan...stoked! Stopped off at the hertz counter before jumping on the shuttle. Super friendly lady working told her I had a free business day certificate that I wanted to use. She popped in all my free certificate info and explained to me what to do with it upon return, thanked me for being a loyal hertz member and around the corner and off I was on the shuttle bus... No wait! Few minutes later arrived at the hertz location jumped off the shuttle and off to my luxury car waiting for me in stall 84. Took a quick walk around to check if their was any damage seeing none jumped in started it up and boom! Only 3000 miles on it! Still had that new car smell. Drive out show my license and I was on my way! Super fast super easy can't complain. Upon return the return lady's were very friendly and full of aloha. Took less then 3min to return no prob. The only thing that was a bit of a downer was the shuttle driver on return. Kinda kept to herself and didn't help with bags but oh well I enjoyed my hertz Maui airport experience and I'll be back! A hui hou! read more

DO NOT use this place. We waited 3.5 hrs to get our car !!! Line was out the door ! Several of us in line went up to the manager to ask why there was such a holdup. Rick the manager was useless and he could care less that people were exhausted and sweating in line. We were told to get back in line. Once we got up to the window the computers were not working and they could not pull up our reservation ! Half our later they pulled it up. Then they had to look for a car and had to do a manual written order. A manager had to go look for a car as the clerk helping us could not locate a car. Then they gave us a car that did not match the license plate. We were so pissed off we drove off in it anyway. Six days later we came back to return the Armada which had the worst alignment I have ever seen on a car. Guess what, they could not find the written order as the previous employee did not enter it in the system. And same problem again, computers not working again !!! The clerk started arguing with the other employee who helped us the first time. Instead of just handling it she handed it to the manager and walked away saying she was not about to deal with it and didn't feel like fixing the other clerks mistake. The manager said she didn't know how to fix it. I told her we have a plane to catch and we have to go. Right at the same time another customer was threatening to sue them as they were refusing to provide a car seat or something. OMG ! We ended up just walking out and leaving, screw this place, save yourself a headache and time wasted and don't use them. Unprofessional, slow, and dirty cars ! Thank God the Sheraton on Maui was excellent! read more

When we arrived on a Friday afternoon at 2pm at the airport, we waited with approximately 60 other people at the bus stop to head to the Hertz office. It was literally 20 minutes before a bus arrived and of course could not fit everyone on. We managed to make the first bus however when we arrived, there was ONE agent working the line! There were three other agents but they could only take Hertz members and some travel group members. The line went out of the building! I am certain they have heavy business levels every Friday so having only one agent was absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, the agent was in no hurry whatsoever as she waited on customers. A full hour later, we were at the counter with what may have been a Supervisor who stepped in, and were told that our vehicle would be pulling up at the front door within moments. Another 15 minutes later, as we watched other customers come out and walk up to parked cars and drive off, we flagged down a Manager on the lot and begged him to just give us keys to any car so we could leave! This was the most unorganized, unprepared, unprofessional car rental outlet I have ever experienced. They were completely unprepared for business and unapologetic about it as well. I guess my option is to either join Hertz Gold Club so I get a shorter line or avoid a business that has so little regard for it's customers. There are so many car rental companies out there so I will certainly not reward Hertz with my business again. I now understand the slogan, "Hertz....not exactly". read more

Worst car rental in 15 years! So bad, it's already verging on comical. It literally took 1h 45min to pick up the car (not including the shuttle ride from the airport). The reason: a relentless upsell attempt worthy of any car dealership combined with incompetent management. 50 min to be served at the counter, 20 min interaction trying to resist upsell, 15 min wait for car to be ready ("it still has to be washed"), and another 20 to exit the dealership (I am not exaggerating- somehow they have to inspect each car individually). Things were so bad that I witnessed one customer who made it to talk to an agent being congratulated by the other customers (!), another family literally spend 40 min with the agent (I timed it) - not sure whether the Hertz staff tried to sell the car, just to come back to the counter 15 min later. Then when it finally was my turn a disgruntled couple came by to explain: "We have been waiting for two hours and our key doesn't work, and the guy can't fix it!" To which the agent explained: "Oh, this is an issue for the maintenance department." The agents explanation for all of this: "You are in Maui." Flying to Maui was sooo much easier than renting a car from Hertz. Avoid if you can. read more

they would have got one star except everyone there was very nice. the problem is when I already paid for a car for one week and then they try and upsell to a more expensive car by saying the economy car won't make to Hana and back on one tank of gas, lie #1. then I am offered $400 of extra car insurance that my existing AAA full coverage won't cover. lie #2. I immediately call AAA to get extra insurance and they tell me not necessary cause my existing policy covers any car I drive. read more

We picked up a rental car here for our Maui vacation and it was one of my smoothest rental car experiences ever (I have had some very bad rental car experiences, though). About 5 minutes after we stepped off the plane, I was on the shuttle to the Hertz. The shuttle stop is a bit hard to find, but someone at the airport can point you there. The shuttle trip took just a couple minutes, and I was the first one in line and helped immediately. The woman was very friendly & efficient and a couple minutes later, I had the keys to the car. All told, it took only us 15-20 minutes extra to pick up the car, which is super fast. The car itself was clean and had a full tank of gas and we were very satisfied with it. I left Maui before my parents, so my mom did the return, but she said everything went smoothly. I would definitely rent from this Hertz location again. read more

Most f-d run Hertz I have visited and that includes LGA. Amateur hour from beginning to end.

We rented a full size car on Hertz online prior to arrival. We received a Nissan Altima. Horrible car. Staff, ease and speed of service was perfectly fine, but we will think twice before using Hertz again. The car was filthy inside and out, there was damage to the outside of the car, we were surprised it was rentable. Probably the worst car my husband or I have ever rented, even compared to Budget, Dollar, other car companies that seem to be lower quality than Hertz. There were no nice features about this car, no gps, sirius (the regular radio barely worked), bluetooth, back up camera, nothing except the barest bones. We expected more from Hertz. We usually try and use Hertz and recommend it to others, but will think twice before doing it again. Have always had a good experience up til now. They did not offer a walk around of the car upon check out, so we had to waste our time to notify Hertz of the pre-existing damage (took up 30-45 minutes of waiting on the phone and speaking to someone while on vacation). We hope the car is tuned up soon, anything above 30mph caused the whole car to shake. I don't think the car is rentable in that condition by Hertz. A very low-class car rental company, maybe, but not a company who prides itself in quality such as Hertz. We would have upgraded, but were told there were only cars for $150-200/more per day available, and this was the only car available in the full size division for us. We should have gone with another car rental agency. read more

Travel every week. Rent cars from hertz frequently. This is the worst hertz location I have ever been to. The bus doesn't run enough for the demand. It's overcrowded when you do finally get on. The cars are never ready when you arrive. They knew we were coming months ago! Don't rent a car here. It's awful. 0 stars if I could. read more

I've been in line for 30 minutes and there are still 2 people in front of me. Definitely do not staff enough service reps for a busy airport. read more

I rented a Nissan Versa from Hertz at Kahului Airport, Maui on the Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 2017. After getting off the Hawaiian Air flight, I headed towards the Hertz shuttle bus stop. It took us to the Hertz office in about 5 minutes. It took about 30 minutes to get the car. They will fill the gas tank at their quoted price with a service charge. The Nissan Versa, although small, was roomy and had excellent gas mileage. The AC was nice and cool and the radio sounded great. It had some advanced technology like a LED display, backup camera, and digital instrument panel that displays the estimated mileage remaining for the amount of gas. I paid Hotwire around $170 to get that car for 3 days and I think that was a good deal for a 3-day weekend. read more

This is the second time to Maui, and the second time we received a junk auto. Ordered a mid sized SUV got a compact. Had to wash windshield on the inside, add air to right front tire and listen to transmission noise. Time to drop the gold and go elsewhere! read more

Not enough shuttles The budget car rental companies have twice as many shuttles Hertz uses higher prices to pay employees to sit around in the office and do nothing while the line builds up outside for a shuttle to the terminal. There were five extra shuttles not being used and six employees basically doing nothing read more

No Aloha spirit here. Got to the counter and just received upsale for about 5 minutes. No maps, asking how they could help, etc, just we can upgrade you to .... If that wasn't bad enough the car I received had 28k miles, plenty dinged up, but most importantly was filthy. I would have given it 1 star, but the return went very smoothly, thus 2 stars. read more

Skip this place if you want good service and don't want our first hour in paradise ruined by incompetence.

Rental in Maui, Aug 11 to 15. Over 2 ++ hours from terminal pick-up to actually getting a car. Over 1.5 hours to get to reservation counter from waiting line. Self-service machines were all down. Was given no choice of model as Hertz policy states. A painful process and negative start to our vacation. Seemed very understaffed especially knowing exactly how many reservations they had and the number of "Gold" vs "other" customers serviced, waiting and remaining for that afternoon. They need to try a different system. read more

Can I rate negative stars? Because if any place deserves it, Hertz does. After a six hour flight with two small children, we waited in line for over an hour, no air conditioning, no water, no seating. Then the agent swore up and down that we wouldn't find cheaper gas rates ANYWHERE, and so we tagged their gas into our price. Literally every gas station had cheaper gas...by A LOT. Two car seats for a week? A whopping $227!!! Then when trying to find the place again to return our car, we called to get directions and were put on hold for five minutes. We almost missed our flight because of their terrible customer service. read more

Reserved a minivan for the week for a total of $304. I used the virtual kiosk to check out and by the time I was done, they had tacked on enough charges that it was over $700! He tried to explain that $200 was some charge Hertz automatically added in and it would be taken off when I returned the car. Even still, it would be over $500 which was still $200 over my quote. I should also mention that there was a $113 charge for the built-in GPS - seriously?! Eventually I got off the phone and walked over to the Gold Member counter and they straightened out the charges. Sadly we had to bring the car back the following day because the brakes were totally failing. No issues exchanging the vehicle, just really inconvenient and not what we had planned on our second day of vacation. read more

This is the worst car I have ever gotten from a rental company. Car had bird s_it all over it and looked like it hadn't been washed in a month. I'm a gold member and had prepaid for car 3 months earlier. I complained when leaving the lot and was told I couldn't get another SUV but they would wash this. No way did I want to wait around hertz lot for an hour after being on a plane for 6 hours. Can't believe this car had tape on the bumper where it lines up with fender to keep it lined up. What a jewel. read more

Very poor service, no sense of urgency. Talk about killing the excitement of starting our vacation. Waited in line for almost 1 hr and then still had to wait for car to get to us. I will never rent from Hertz again. read more

Horrible service. Absolute worst experience I've ever had at rental lot. We had to deal with a video monitor not a person to get out car. Not the way I wanted to start my vacation. read more

Absolutely terrible. Express kiosk line is not express at all and is treated as second rate customers and they take reservations for cars they dont have. On top of that the wait is an hour or so. Avoid at all costs. read more

BIG MISTAKE! The laundry list of things this company did wrong for us on our vacation is too long to list. The short version is, no one knows what they are doing here and if there is the slightest deviation from their robotic instruction manual of daily operations, they can't deal with it. Just kicking the can down the road. Pass one person's problem on to someone else. At one point when we were returning the car, we were upset with the person we were dealing with and I could physically see 3 different individuals yelling at their Hertz representative as well. Don't know if it's just the volume of people coming through this facility daily or what the story is, but I would suggest looking elsewhere for car rental service. It was not a good experience. read more

I rented from Hertz for the first time I usually rent from enterprise about 25 times a year I signed up for the gold card the gold rewards when I called Hertz number they would not add the rental but I just got done with on you or give me credit on rewards card they told me I would have to only get it on the next rental but not this one the person was very rude. Keep in mind I'm not talking about that hertz employees at the Maui BUT when I called the 800-number THOSE were the people that were rude and they told me that I should just stay renting with enterprise can you believe that? Very poor customer service other than the fact when I filled out the gold rewards thing online it took me 30 minutes what a waste of time read more

Two hours later and we're still waiting for our car. The line was out of the door and moving EXTREMELY SLOW. They only had one agent working the regular line and multiple agents working the pleasant holidays & gold lines that weren't as long. The agent asked us to wait & never completed our transaction so people who were behind us in line got their car before us. TALK ABOUT INEPT!!!! THEY DIDN'T HAVE VEHICLES AVAILABLE EVEN THOUGH WE HAD A RESERVATION. We had to also wait for the cars to be returned & cleaned. Not a good way to start our vacation. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The absolute WORST car rental experience I've ever had. It took nearly 2.5 hours to get our rental car and you know, that's exactly what anyone wants to be doing after being on an airplane for several hours...or not. There were many, many other unhappy people also waiting just as long for their cars. I went with Hertz solely because the prices were quite a bit less than other quotes I received. You get what you pay for. I will NEVER use Hertz again. I'd rather pay a bit more and wait for 20 minutes vs. 2+ hours. Rent elsewhere if you want to start your vacation off in a good mood. read more

Just landed for our honeymoon and we took the shuttle here from the airport. We've been waiting for OVER TWO AND A HALF HOURS for our car. One hour in line and more than an hour waiting for them to give us our car. It's apparent that they rent cars that are due to be returned that day thus cars are having to be flipped immediately. This is causing the long wait. Please go to a different rental place!! read more

Horrible staff. When we checked in, they didn't give us any contract. When we returned the car, the staff asked for the contract, we said nobody gave us one, she said then you stole the car! WTF! I booked a car 2 weeks before flying to Maui. Hertz did not give me the rate stated on my reservation and when I put up a fuss about it the manager rolled eyes at me and walked away! When I asked to speak with her again, she came over and just stood there staring at me. Then to make matters worse, they gave me a Ford SUV instead of the Jeep that I had on my reservation. Oh, and this was during our honeymoon. My wife could care less about the money so we just accepted to get out of there. You can bet I'll never use Hertz again! read more

Bad customer service. Representative tried to up-sell my parents into a bigger car, and when they politely declined, they received a bigger car anyway because IT WAS THE ONLY ONE AVAILABLE. Essentially she tried to scam them to pay more for what they were already receiving. She then lied about the price of gas to get my mom to purchase the gas in the tank, and questioned my mom's honesty about our insistence that our insurance covers everything and we don't need any additional. They put a $250 hold on the credit card and then they didn't check the car for damage before we left. My mom noticed massive scratches on the car after she left and will be calling back to notify them. I find it interesting that there's a review below me with the exact same experience with the exact same lady at the counter. Our San Diego to Maui flight had to divert due to an emergency. This caused us to arrive a day later than planned. They stated that rates change. read more

It was a bad omen when we got to the Hertz counter at the pick up area and there were enough people to fill three buses, but only one bus! While rival companies had a constant stream of buses, we had to wait until Hertz finally sent two more buses. Once we arrived at the rental office it was apparent how slow the process was going to be. The office was understaffed and the checkout was very slow even with the three kiosks in service. The staff was friendly and helpful, but overwhelmed. Our car was clean and has been fun to drive, however we are considering to change rental companies next time we come to Maui. read more

Deceptive upgrade practices. I usually rent through Avis or National and should have known better. Booked a minivan on Hotwire so I didn't know the rental company until payment was final. I paid $200. Upon picking up the rental, the counter agent offered an upgrade and said it would only be $50. She said that she was surprised it was such a good deal. I signed the statement which was for $250. I thought it was the $200 I already paid and then the $50 upgrade. Come to find out later that the upgrade amount was $250, so my total rental was $450. More than twice what I was expecting to pay originally. I tried to dispute the charge but of course was unsuccessful since I did sign the invoice for $250. Shame on me for not paying more attention but I do think that the agent was very deceptive and was trying to sneak a fast one by me since she is compensated on selling upgrades. read more

No kiosk working, been here 20 minutes already and still 3rd in line. Rent with someone else in Maui!

We had a reservation and had paid for the rental. When we got to the rental facility, we had to wait an hour in line to get to the counter. Then, another 15 mins for the car to be pulled around. They are inadequately staffed for the amount of cars they are renting. I strongly advise using another car rental company, if you want to get your vacation started. read more
