This food disgruntled me and my 15 family members. They didn't get the food as soon as I ordered it and it was severely understaffed. However, the entire mood was joyful as the only source of entertainment was a broken screen and a frivolous fly. I do not recommend this place for the simple reasons of the place in general, for example, the staff was too nice and didn't give me the oomf of a proud chain restaurant. I also believe that Hershel's is an uninteresting and unworthy name contributing nothing to the overall ambience of this setting, in which resembles a "family" diner. I'm from north Dallas. I was in the area and decided to give Herschel's a try on a Sunday morning. Food was very good. Every Staff member was welcoming very polite. Everyone seem to be working very hard. I always have ton of respect for the hard working people. Here is my only small complain, put more sauce on chilaquiles so we don't have to pay extra $3 for sauce that should had been on it. It's been a long time since we have eaten here. We have lived here 9 years and eaten here once. We decided to try breakfast m, they remolded the inside. Spacious and cute rustic look. The menu board is modern. Good options for food. We came for breakfast and my husband ordered the eggs with bacon and pancakes. I ordered the eggs over medium with sliced ham. Not too bad. Ate there Wednesday the 3rd. Ordered the steak finger basket. Menu said they were "hand dipped". This tells me they are fresh made, hand dipped on premise. NOT. They were frozen pre-made. Tasted freezer burnt. Don't say "hand dipped" knowing they aren't. read more

Moved to Pittsburg in Nov 2019 and enjoyed eating at the local Herschel's. The food was tasty and the southern hospitality and excellent customer service made for an enjoyable experience and frequent visits. Very sad to say our experience today was just the opposite. "Young" staff was very indifferent to our being there and the food was so bad that we both ate only half of our entrees. I'm sure a lot of it is due to the struggle of finding decent help because of the pandemic. We will definitely not be returning. read more

$22.95 for our meal. Kid meal, chicken fried steak dinner and smothered spud. This place is like a better version of Dairy Queen minus the dessert selections. Most of the options offered are battered and deep fried or burgers. My wife liked chicken fried steak dinner. She said it was better than Cracker Barrel. The beef was hand-battered. Her potato was a better value than the side of mashed potatoes. It is served with butter and cheese. Bacon bits are a pricey $0.79 extra and sour cream is $0.49. The children's chicken finger meal has two large, hand-battered pieces that were fantastic. The cream gravy tastes like instant. However the smothered spud suffered greatly. The gravy was good. The hamburger steak was tasty as were the onions. The craptacular part was the spud itself. This spud was hard and tasted like it had been sitting in the oven since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The only place in Pittsburg to really stop and get a quick bite when I'm in a rush. I always order the chicken salad. Never enough chicken. Literally a to-go plate full of lettuce, with a sprinkle of chicken. If I'm paying $10+ for the salad I'd at least expect more chicken. The only reason I always go back is because I've never had an issue with Mount Pleasant restaurant. It's always Pittsburg. This morning I decided to get a to-go omelette and my sausage was burnt inside and omelette was cold. I never write reviews, but working in the restaurant industry I know it isn't acceptable to do a half way job on orders.
