Tucked away on 25A, there is a sign, but once you see it, you're probably passing the preserve by! You can find it, and you should visit, as it is definitely going to be worth your while. Admission is free, and it is open year round. There is a parking lot, and I have never seen it get super crowded. During the Spring and Summer seasons, you will see a few people walking around, and a few parents enjoying the day with their children. Otherwise, it's just a plentiful amount of trees, clear walking trails and a direct path to the water. I'm not sure if dogs are permitted, but I have seen a few people walking theirs. This never caused any type of difficulty. Everyone was enjoying their day and taking in the fresh air and sunshine. You can get lost here, despite the preserve not being incredibly expansive. There is a readerboard with maps and paths in the parking lot to facilitate your experience. If you lose your way listen for the cars on 25A, and you will find the parking lot. Trust me! This is a very interesting preserve, as it features dirt paths, a great deal of greenery and many beautiful wildflowers during peak seasons. There are 30 acres for you to explore. The air quality is fantastic, as can be witnessed by the plethora of lichen growing on the bark of the many trees including a surplus of white birch. The paths will lead you to a sandy area with different kinds of bushes and back into another portion of the preserve. Here is where it gets even more exciting. If you keep walking, you will reach the water! It is just a lovely view. There is a bench, where you can just sit and take in the scenery, under the shade of the many trees. There is a small area of marshland prior to the actual water, however, you can venture forth. You will probably encounter friendly boaters, locals and neighbors also simply taking it all in. This is just a wonderful place, where you can escape the daily hustle and collect your thoughts. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Anyway skip ahead a year or 2 later we finally made it on over here. I had no idea it was so close to the main street and I see many park before dinners in our future. Of course the day we finally came here was also one of the hottest recently at almost 90 degrees so we didn't stay to long. We will for sure be back.

I was admiring the birds on the water and I walked and it helped pass the time. Keep a look out for droppings on the ground unless you don't care to soil your shoes. Nearing the end of my walk, I really wanted to spend some time on the bridge where most of the waterfowls were gathered. It turns out that a family was feeding them. The very last morsel was taken by one geese that miffed another geese and so it chase the other with aggression. Birds can be pretty brutal and they were quite huge so I had to stay away. What an unfortunate experience. Besides the lake, there's also a beautiful playground, picnic tables, a sports field and tennis courts. The Heckscher Museum of Art can also be found on the grounds as well as a September 11 Memorial. It is definitely worth a visit. There is decent amount of parking spaces all around the park for ease of access too.

I recommend reading up on the history of the park before you start your exploration of this marvel. Once a large estate owned by a gilded age family and Sold to New York State during the developments of Robert Mosses. Do be prepared to walk, but you will love what you see on your two mile plus journey of deer and wild life viewing, thats right I saw deer as well as many bird species who's calls, chirps, and knocks could be heard through out the park.

You can enter the trail from different directions, which makes it convenient. The views are beautiful and serene. There were information boards and signs along the trail to provide additional information about the area. The beach was relatively clean (maybe because it is now fall and not that many people go there). Great view of the North Atlantic Ocean. The overlook deck and stairs were well maintained. The trail to access the beach was less than 1 mile and it was not a loop. There were plenty of parking spots at the parking lot, however, a $4 parking fee per passenger car was charged (pay at the kiosks using cash or credit card). Overall it was a great experience and easy hike for my kids.
