With the backdrop of the utility towers and a thriving collection of seabird life, this is a particularly scenic north shore beach. There is a playground and even a sit down restaurant in the compound. A picnic area and a very colorful playground complete the scene. The few people in the area were friendly as they walked their dogs or collected shells. We expect to return in the spring, just before they start checking IDs. read more

Crab Meadow Beach is a public beach in the Northport Area that spans over 1,000-feet wide and expands along the shores of the Long Island Sound. There are noticeable sandbars at low tide that form pools of water that are shallow. There is also a large playground, basketball courts, and a restaurant along the boardwalk, La Casa Café. The restaurant has a large table area underneath an open-air structured roof. We were there to enjoy a quiet afternoon by the water, while reading our reading material off season. It has come to our attention that the season passes have risen quite a bit. read more

Pretty cool beach for us folks tucked away on the north shore. Ample parking and even a small boardwalk with some dining options. Huntington beach pass is required for entry before 5pm I believe. After 5pm, anyone can enter. The only strike are all the seashells on the beach...makes walking into the water a rather painful expedition. I'd highly recommend bringing water shoes or something so you can walk without hurting yourself. The waves aren't nearly as nice as the south shore but it's a pretty quiet beach for us locals. Definitely worth checking out! read more

For those of living the life on the north shore of Long Island, there are precious few spaces that really live up to all of the hype of living where we do. Crab Meadow Beach Park is one such place. An awesome beach on the north shore to take the family for an all-day adventure that gives you a full-on restful day at the beach and a chance to play and eat without ever having to leave the park. Plenty of on-site parking is available for residents of Huntington (not sure of the cost for non-residents). Clearly defined and easily accessible spaces make getting onto to beach a cinch. A kid's playground is there to keep the little ones occupied. A jungle gym and swings will keep them busy for some time. While the shoreline is a bit stony (like almost all beaches on the north shore), the water is very accessible. Maybe bring some water shoes to make up for there not being too much sand. Bring your appetit, there is food available here and is quite good. Outside you can get pizza, dogs, burgers and ice cream while inside you can score a bar and/or a sit down meal. One of our favorite discoveries on the north shore in a while. read more

Crab Meadow Beach is a wonderful secluded beach on the North Shore. The beach has a playground and restaurant right by the water. Since it's the Long Island Sound and not the Atlantic Ocean, there aren't big waves, making it ideal for wading and skipping rocks. The beach is quite rocky and the sand isn't as fine as Jones Beach. Recently, however, Crab Meadow Beach has started doing some extreme price gouging. The cost for non-residents has skyrocketed from $35 to $75! This is the beach, not Disney World. We spun the car around and went to Sunken Meadow State Park instead. read more

The water is very dark, due to huge amount of seaweed. Beach has areas of sand & rocks w/ dead shells everywhere. Yes the tide does get really low here, but that is true about most of the Long Island Sound. Refreshingly quiet and calm beach. Small, but doesn't feel crowded. It has a nice neighborhood feel. Families and small groups. No blasting music or commotion. $40 for resident seasonal pass (I've noticed this pass goes up $5 each year). $25 for resident day pass. $35 for non-resident day pass. Sand is a bit rocky and gets very rocky the closer you get to the water. Oww! I wish I had water shoes. Calm water since it's the north shore. Three lifeguards on duty. Bathrooms at main building are clean enough. No indoor showers. Just an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. La Casa Cafe Pizza walk-up window to grab a slice of pizza, salad or ice cream. Plenty of outdoor seating in a covered area. Super casual, barefoot/bathing suit ok. La Casa Cafe on site too. Never been, but looks like a proper restaurant (no-bathing-suits-type place). Fun little beach that's close to home without all the traffic and crowds. read more

Take your beach shoes, find a friend/family member with a township sticker, pack your own lunch/snacks, don't forget a camera and ENJOY one of this area's gems!! YES, there are TONS of rocks during low tide, and NO, it's not exactly the boardwalk experience you might be imagining, but if you're looking for a scenic, serene spot, you can't go wrong here... As you approach the beach, the last moment or two of the drive down Waterview St., with the (I imagine) incredibly over-priced beach "bungalows" on the left and the marshy bay (?) on the right, you just might forget where you are for a moment...!! Very scenic!! The beach, however, is NEVER crowded, has tons of space (esp. during that very rocky -- get OVER it!!! -- low tide!!) and amazing sand bars, views to infinity (or at least Connecticut on a clear day!!) and plenty of features for landlubber and water-babe alike! There's an Italian restaurant that just about always busy, and they also offer pizza and some other selections from their menu on the outside patio. My mom, sister and I shared a pie and it was comparable price and quality (or better) than any local pizzeria's offering. I think a baloney sandwich might even taste like filet mignon if I could eat it overlooking the calm (semi) pristine waters of the Long Island Sound on a daily basis... I grew up in this area, and like most, overlooked/underappreciated this and other north shore town beaches in favor of the ocean on the south shore, but since leaving for semi-landlocked Ohiooooooooo, I've come to truly appreciate these gems!! You won't see tourists come here, if you're lucky the only sound you'll hear is of an occasional dog barking along with some teenagers. This place is located just East of the National Grid towers, just Northeast of downtown Northport. Their was a lot more beach to this but after Sandy a breach was made and took out an entire fence. For the kids their are swings, a basketball court and that's pretty much it. I believe their is a fee but I'd never come here and pay anything over $0 for this small and quiet beach. If you're venturing on the North Shore and Hobart Beach/Eaton's Neck is your final destination, this place isn't so bad to stop by either before or after. Their's no boardwalk so that's kind of a downer but you won't find the Sunken Meadow crowd here. You can probably go out in the water quiet a bit and cast a line out and hopefully catch some fish. read more

First time at this beach was very enjoyable. $35 for non residents so a bit pricey but parking is fantastic, short walk to beach, no waves, which is perfect for little kids and the thing I love the most..... quiet! It's mostly families with young kids or older couples. No 20 year olds blasting rap and smoking weed. There's also a great playground for kids to play. The only things I did not love were the horse flies.. ugh! Not a lot but enough to annoy me. Also, I googled the water quality. For the day I went the quality was poor according to the swim website, but people were still swimming in the water and the lifeguards didn't say anything so.... I dunno. We didn't go in the water just because I'm super careful about stuff like that. However. Still a really great day. Will be back. read more

A very scenic beach that can give tons of views in a much quieter atmosphere than others. Settled on the north shore, the tide is low so don't expect crashing waves. In addition to this, it is VERY rocky, especially as you get closer to the water. There is a lot of life in the water; minnows, hermit crabs, etc to see. Unfortunately we did see a tapeworm in a pond like area swimming, which turned us off from going very deep in the water. Overall it was a very nice experience, away from the hustle and bustle that you usually get from crowded beaches closer to the city. This is the perfect spot to get away and relax. read more

Beautiful North Shore beach. Pack up your beach gear and sit on the beach all day and night! When you're hungry grab some pizza, beer, Italian ices or salad from the window service of La Casa. They also have a larger menu with waitress service outside. Or go inside to La Casa restaurant. Beautiful views! Just watch out because the bees can get annoying and some people like the water on the North Shore but I prefer the ocean. A must go to beach. With My $30 yearly pass I can go in anytime. The low tide Is cool. Wait for it and run out there. Everyone does. There are slides for the kids. A little boardwalk and showers outside. There are 2 covered pick nick areas that you need reserve when you get there. The Casa restaurant comes in handy to get in air conditioning on a hot day for a drink or lunch or dinner. Generally not crowded but on a hot weekend it gets crowded with as lot of family and kids. Less crowded is Hobart Beach. read more

Nice beach with a big parking lot to accommodate many cars. The water is SUPER cold this time of year (May-June) so don't expect to do a lot of swimming at the start of the summer. When I was swimming about 50 feet from shore I swam over a crab so be careful! read more
