All American Hero came with roast beef, ham, swiss, american, lettuce, tomato, mayo, oil and vinegar. It was a large hero so I ended up eating half and saving the rest for later. I washed down the hero with a cold coffee soda, which was a nice surprise because not many places sell this! Great spot! A perfect alternative to the overpriced food court of Industry City. The food is great, affordable, and prepared quickly. The Staff: friendly and warm, they simply have too much to do and are too busy to baby you. They are quick, efficient and courteous! They have NEVER gotten my order wrong, and often find me wherever I am in the store to ask questions about my order. While online I often see rude or difficult customers who are sucking their teeth and being rude to the staff, they are probably the same customers leaving poor reviews about the service. The place seems to get crowded for lunch, I'm noticing the biggest crowds so far around 12:20-12:50. But the lines move quickly. The staff is patient with indecisive customers. Sandwiches & Wraps: A simple hero or roll will cost you between $5-7. Some specialty items and bigger sandwiches will cost you $7-10 Hot Bar: I have yet to try their hot bar which offers platters, rice, noodles etc. While it looks delicious the sandwich bar won me over. Credit Card: $10 minimum for cards Drinks: Standard prices for drinks mostly $1-2 some costing $3-4 Seating: There is room to sit 28 people. A few tables are single, most are double so if they are crowded expect to sit next to strangers. Cleanliness: The place is fairly clean. Chefs are constantly wiping down surfaces and cutlery. The staff often cleans the tables and wipes them down as well. OVERALL: I would highly recommend Hero Champ. It's steps away from the hipster food court of Industry City. For what it is, it's great. Don't get their pastries. They're advertised as baked on premises and I totally believe them. I got some chocolate rolled up thingy ma bob and they put it in a bag for me. It weighed about 5 pounds and by the time I got to work, grease had soaked in the bag. It was terrible. It took two bites and felt like I had eaten...I don't even know. Like a cross between a donut and a brick, but worse. So just lay off the pastries. The sandwiches here are great like many of these hole-in-the-wall delis. Fantastic chicken salad sandwich, and I don't even like chicken salad. Hot food too, if you're into that, and a small seating area. But my favorite thing about this place? Sometimes I've got a showing in the wee hours of the morning (9 am or so) and biking to Sunset Park from Crown Heights takes time, my friends, and as I rarely eat breakfast due to my tendency to either stay up reading too late or be out at a bar too late, by the time I bicycle into the area, I'm starving. What does this have to do with Hero Champ? $2.80 cheese omelette with homefries and toast, that's what. It's diner food. And it's cheap. The balding manager at the front and I just got into a confrontation because I, a Black woman, dared to question why he overcharged me for a sandwich with the same ingredients as one on the menu for LESS money. He got defensive and rude, and when I challenged him about his horrible attitude, he said he's from Brooklyn and I hadn't seen angry yet. JUST ordered a breakfast WRAP said it as LOUD and clear as possible. I'm from New York, I know I MUST make my order clear. Dude behind the counter totally fucked my order up I'm a big boy I know what I ordered. I calmly inform him that the order was wrong. He yells at me that I was the one responsible for the mistake. Worst place to get food. The employees are damn lazy meaning they pre-slice 4 to 5 lb worth of ham and turkey, and 3lb worth of cheeses ahead of time. The machine is cleaned before 3:30pm and they wait to go home. Because of this, the meat you're getting is aged and rancid all around the edge and some workers are not kind enough to give you the meat in the middle. They are not serious about serving up good food. They take advantage of the fact that there are few stores and restaurants in the area. Having been a customer of this establishment for around 12 years now since my company moved into the neighborhood I have never had a terrible experience with them. The owners are friendly and so are the delivery people. In a neighborhood with (back then) limited options this place was a great spot. Today with all the new food courts and other fast food places coming I still find myself constantly returning to Hero Champ for there great breakfast, wraps and salads. This place is the epitomy of a 1 star establishment. There are a lack of food options in this industrial area and this place takes full advantage. I can't tell if this is a genious business move or soulless price gouging. I'll go with the latter. 8.25$ gets you a turkey sandwich with cheese, that's right, 8.25$! I don't want to be totally unfair, all of the food I've had here is a step up from most deli food but still not worth the price. The man behind the counter (I think he's the owner) is always abrupt and pushy. He is not a pleasant person to interact with. Ridiculous prices and attitude is not a good business practice. Ordered from here twice. Pretty good. Third time, the turkey burger was awful. The onions and mushrooms were NOT fried as ordered. Mushy. A call to resolve was void of any semblance of professionalism. I have a picture to prove what the food looked like. Response: "I saw it on the grill." The conversation ended with the manager's response and I quote, "You should pick your battles." Of course he would feel that way because he's been paid. Wouldn't you expect French fries to be fried? This is a great place for everyday breakfast and lunch. Really great value for tasty food. I've tried a little of everything from their deli sandwiches to their daily set lunch menu.
