I had a small move but from the beginning the movers were hostile, combative, and demeaning when I tried to give any direction on what and what not should be moved. Their under-their-breath vulgarities could be heard by me and my family. They refused to even talk to me but instead directed their questions to my father, even though I hired them. Instead of having professional, courteous movers I had misogynist, verbally abusive men who I clearly paid to make me feel uncomfortable in my own home. The worst movers one could imagine. They lost furniture. I stopped and called numerous times and was told they would look for it and call when they found it. They never called and never found it. I asked about insurance when I originally discussed the move with them. There answer was that their insurance is a satisfied customer. Well if you want to keep your belongibgs find a different way to get them from one residence to the next residence. I am a most dissatisfied customer. A "0" star rating is too high. read more

Excellent service. The crew of four guys(Jeff, Bill and team) were great, polite, professional, hard working- just what you want in movers. It was 90 degrees and about 100% humidity and even got some crazy storms and they still worked so hard and got us moved in less than budgeted time. It was a full house plus 2 storage units move. My wife and I had a VERY positive experience with Hernia! Let me first start by saying I have never hired a moving company - I have always rented a U-Haul and had some of my buddies help. But because we had to move on a Friday and my wife is pregnant, we decided to limit the stress and hire Hernia. Our closing date changed a couple of times and they were very flexible with setting up a time and date. The initial quote they gave us was spot on so, which I have heard is pretty rare in this industry. We had a 3-man crew - they were efficient, courteous and worked very hard. There were a number of tight squeezes with our furniture: both getting out of our old house and into the new house...but there were no complaints from their end. They took great care of our items and even told us about a small chip on a piece of furniture that they thought happened in the move (it didn't...the piece was damaged prior to the move). All three of them talked openly about how much they enjoy their job and how much they enjoy working for Hernia. If you are planning on moving in the Milwaukee area do yourself a favor and hire these guys! One last thing - this IS the service industry so remember to tip, I am sure this does not happen as often as it should. read more

We had such a positive experience with Hernia! When we called to give our information they provided us with a quote with some wiggle room and a time. The movers arrived a little early, got things moved on the very low end of the estimated time, and even put our bed together! So I've moved a few times and it seems like the experience has always gotten worse and worse. Jim and team completely changed that trend! They showed up right on time for the move to Wauwatosa. I had a 2 bedroom (queen bed, dresser, chest, and night stands), office, dining room, and living room with a flat screen TV to move. They brought a truck with plenty of space and carefully wrapped up everything. The few times I helped they were very thankful. Overall this was the perfect moving experience. They're great guys, very focused on the job, and have completely changed my mind when it comes to movers. If I ever find myself needing to move again I'll definitely be using JIm and team again. I had a bad experience with another moving company, so found Hernia Movers in 2012. Used them then and just recently for local moves in Milwaukee. Both experiences were excellent. Movers were on time and FAST! They charge an hourly rate, so you might expect them to take their time, but that is not the case. Even my husband was impressed with how fast the two movers worked. The move took less time and cost less than expected thanks to the speed of the two movers. I will definitely continue to use and recommend Hernia Movers. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to write a review like this, but consumers should know that there are many better places to trust with your move. We contracted Hernia Movers on Pierce Street in Milwaukee to help move my mother. They arrived shortly after their promised window and really moved quickly to get things out an in the truck. They were willing to work with my mother as things were being placed into her new apartment and were very pleasant. The problem happened during the move and most specifically after. A few items were very lightly damaged, one of them a small chest freezer during the move. The freezer was like new as my mother had only owned it for a few months. When it arrived to her new place, there was a sizable scratch on the top that clearly happened at some point during the move. We noticed it, made note of it to contact them about after we had the chance to inspect everything so they could do the right thing and fix it. This is where you need to consider other movers. They will not be easy to work with. Other moving companies I've used in the past were easy exponentially better to work with when it came to damages. I spoke to the manager who informed me he was one of the two men performing the move and that they absolutely did not damage it. As a customer, the last thing I want to do is argue about a non-expensive item that was clearly damaged at some point during the moving process, I'd like a company to stand behind their work and offer solutions. You will not get this type of good customer service with Hernia Movers. A simple offer of touch up or even a new top from the freezer company would have made all the difference, but an argumentative approach and such lackluster service should make you think about going with a more reliable company that will fix something when they damage it. I'd recommended not using Hernia Movers and instead going with another company for your move. 12/12/17 Update: After reading the attempt of Hernia Movers to make their spin on this situation sound like they should be commended for how they handled the situation, I have to just add this update. There was no offer, hence the review saying the experience should be something a consumer should consider other methods that are insured and back their mistakes. The freezer monetarily was not the issue, it was the movers taking responsibility for an accident that occurred during the move. Lance was argumentative and hung up on me during the conversation about the "offers" you mention. My best recommendation to a potential customer reading this is choose Hernia Movers at your own risk. read more

Scheduling went well, but beware, they sent me too small of a truck. Although I told them it took a full semi to move me in and I have a lot of large furniture and described the larges pieces, they based the truck on number of boxes and rough square footage. They had to work 2 hours longer than estimated and left me to move quite a lot on my own after. They also damaged the wood trim on my couch. The lead mover said they would have a repairman contact me the next week, but there was no follow up. I just called 10 days later & was told the manager will call me back in 2 days. We'll see. WARNING!!!!! Moving is stressful enough, hiring this company will only make it more stressful. They quoted the move to be 2.5-3 hours. Fine if they went over but they took 7 hours the first day (one bedroom apt to a house within 1.5 miles) YES 7 HOURS and didn't finish the job! One of the movers cut himself on our washer fine no big deal I get it. We waited for another guy to come and in the meantime we helped empty the truck. We had one couch to move out and one to move in. They couldn't fit the couches through the entry way fine....so they tried and tried again forcing this and in turn damaged two entry ways and scratched the s*&t out of our wall. The guy said financially it doesn't make sense for them to keep trying. I was so upset when I saw this damage, but the mover said not to worry it will be fixed (don't trust them). This is a newly purchased home. One selling point was the meticulous up keep. At the end of the day the guy wanted me to pay for the day I refused to pay as there was damage, injury, excessive time etc. This move would have taken competent movers 4 hours max. What really gets me is.....at the end of it all he says we measured and the couches can't fit through the entry ways. No kidding look at all of this damage!! Ok he measured after the damage wtf! He concluded they would fit through the kitchen window. WOW! Wouldn't you think they would measure first. I had to take 2 hours of PTO for the boss to come the next day. The boss came the next day with two guys and moved the couch out and ours in, in a matter of 30 mins. He charged us for 3 hours and did not agree to fix the damage. Thanks for breaking in our new house Hernia Movers: two entry ways and a wall damaged. I am not exaggerating. This all needs to be sanded and painted. Thanks for nothing Hernia Movers! Hired Hernia Movers to move heavy and cumbersome furniture and excercise equipment from our basement. This is in preparation for remodeling the basement, and we are storing all this "stuff" throughout our house and garage. The young men arrived on time, and with a smile. Even when I started to describe what I wanted, they indicated that rather than talk about it, I should just show them. They wanted to start working, and they really hustled. They used professional care, and made turns around a difficult stairway look easy. They were very conscious of my belongings and my home, and finished in less time than I thought. Many are written by the companies very owners , employees , or friends for the benefit of the owner. BEWARE! Our experience with Hernia was great. The movers were quick and efficient. We moved from an apartment with elevators to a 3rd floor apartment with stairs only. Hernia arrived right on time. We were impressed with their speed loading our stuff onto their truck. They even sent a fourth guy over to help! Hernia tackled the stairs in our new place with ease. Called this AM requesting someone come out to give me a 'visual estimate' rather than a rough cost...the guy that answered my called made it very obvious they were not interested in coming out...I live in 53120 and moving to 53154. I pointed out that their site indicates a wide area of coverage. Three other movers were more than willing to come out...obviously, Hernia is so busy they don't need any new business...very disappointed in their response as they had been used by my relatives and had recommended them. read more

The mark of a good company is what happens when there is a problem, and Hernia came through. I hired Hernia to put our furniture back in place after having our floors refinished. There was a problem, and some damage was done that I would have ignored, except that it was very visible to anyone walking through the room. The folks at Hernia worked with the floor company to come up with an agreement acceptable to everyone involved. The floors are now repair and look great.
