This place is alright, and I mean that in every sense of the word. By no means is this a Cobra-Kai but it sure as hell keeps the ethic of discipline. I can't remember how I found this place...Yelp maybe (go figure). I brought my kid in for the FREE 4 week trail and he seemed to like it enough to where he had become confident in wanting to show up. Willingly. Now you have to understand that a 6 year old child wanting to go somewhere that involves discipline and structure is a dream come true for a former combat veteran. I have never been more motivated and inspired to support my child. Boy was I in for a surprise. One word, Contracts. Their priced heavily and are extensive. I'm cheap, like I'll wear the same pair of shoes for 5 years cheap. It was an arm twister to sign the boy up for 2 years. Just be ready. Belt evaluations are going to cost you too. I haven't seen them charge me much for gear but I'm sure that's coming in my near future. I later discovered that later on the lessons increase over time and it is a much more refined process. From when my boy started to now, he has learned quite a bit. He's no Bruce Lee, but hearing him practice his moves sends a bolt of pride through my body. The classes seem to be well taught for the most part as the young and fresh students seem to learn defensive moves and play interactive games. I was expecting a "wax on and wax off" lesson when I walked in one day but only to discover my boy bouncing off the walls in laughter and enjoyment. They were playing dodge ball... WTF... Seriously where's this crane move Daniel used to kick that Zabka kid in the nads. I later discovered that there is an advance class where young and resilient pupils of HMA come dressed in black and look seasoned and committed to there teachings. My impatience and arrogance had bested me once again. I was surprised one day when my boy didn't advance in his belt. Like any good father I immediately blamed the institution. I was ready to attack the instructors for not doing their job of teaching him correctly but I stopped myself. I asked myself "what good is giving him the belt if he truly didn't deserve it." My wife had later come to discover that he did not know all the moves and was not ready for the next trial. They even offered to help him practice on the off days and to watch the advance students to learn from them. You know how I said I was cheap a few years back? They didn't charge me for a reevaluation. The amount of integrity in this one little office suite had more integrity than all the American politicians put together. The parking lot is one of the Sifu's greatest teaching to parents. The professor must've had a vision in one of his deep meditations to place his dojo in a difficult location. Like those Buddhist temples that sit on a mountain peak. I have the belief that some parents actually have come hours before and secured a spot for themselves. Perhaps it is even wrong that I thought of breaking my own legs to secure the only handicap spot. There is only one way in and one way out, almost like the teachings of Buddha and learning to grasp and hold the luxury of self restraint. It's easier to go park in the business plaza down the street and walk over there. You'll thank yourself. Trust me. Time to wrap it up. They are truly nice people, no Mr. Myagi or Ip Man here, but I'm assured that they are confident in their teachings. They have movie nights and seminars once in a blue moon for the kids which is nice (for a price). I guess it was me all along that needed to master the art of patience. Perhaps the parking lot where HMA is located is a trial of some sort for the parents to overcome. Maybe the professor of the dojo is teaching me as a parent to release hold of material wealth and to invest it in my child. The door to the dojo is also heavy for my boy as I watch him in the distance struggle to open it I can only reassure myself that this is some strength building lesson. I also forgot to mention they encourage the students to do good at home and school. Also to carry their teaching with them everywhere they go. They will be rewarded with a star to distinguish themselves apart. For the last year and half my son has slowly climbed his way to the next belt, SLOWLY. I learned that this isn't a Costco membership or a Netflix subscription. This is a place of learning, not only for the student but also for the parent. Even though this is no karate kid dojo, I feel like it has the prestige of a real Cobra-Kai.

Arriving a few minutes to try to avoid the gridlock. No luck.

Community is humble, passionate and about the right size (not too big feeling crowded or not too small). I have gradually improved in all dimensions - strength, cardio, flexibility, technique and mindset/mentality. 5 stars! Highly recommend. You have various options (CrossFit, bootcamp, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting etc) to chose from depending on interest and where you are at in your fitness journey.

I had no background in CrossFit or weightlifting and felt completely new to it all, but they explained the basics clearly, kept things motivating, and often stepped in to correct form so we built the right foundation. That gave me confidence and made the classes something I looked forward to instead of dreaded. Over time, I enjoyed Boot Camp so much that I moved into CrossFit. I'm still a beginner in CrossFit and probably will be for a while but my weight loss has accelerated since making the switch, and I've started feeling stronger, healthier, and more positive overall. So far, I've had classes with seven different coaches plus Brad, the owner, and every one of them has been dedicated, approachable, and engaged. Each coach has their own style, which makes it fun you pick up something new in every session. Brad himself is humble and very committed to building the kind of community that makes people want to keep coming back. The best part of this gym is the great community of coaches n people. It's full of people who push themselves, encourage each other, and make the hard work enjoyable. If you're looking for a place that challenges you but also supports you, CrossFit One World is it. Joining here has been one of the best decisions for my health and well-being.

All I ask from my sons is that they put in the effort and improve just a little more every time they come to class. We've seen those small improvements that end up being big improvements when added altogether. Overall very happy with Roots. Impressed how much you can get for the price - and we only go to the Muay Thai classes. The only downsides I can think of is - Limited parking - Pretty crowded classes (but not overly) - very small entryway. Hard to get in and out But those are all negligible tbh.

Before Roots, we spent several years at another gym, but when it shut down due to Covid, we decided to give Roots a try--and it turned out to be the best thing that came out of the pandemic. Roots is more than just a gym; it's a family-friendly environment where both adults and youth can learn authentic Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, all under one roof. The coaches here are phenomenal--highly skilled, knowledgeable, and deeply passionate about martial arts. They provide structured material and a clear path for learning, making it easy to see consistent progress whether you're a beginner or experienced. One of the things we love most is how inclusive the gym is. Whether you're single or have a family, Roots has a place for you. For us, it's been incredible watching our youngest son thrive. He's not only learning the true discipline of martial arts but also gaining confidence, focus, and life skills that will stay with him forever. If you're looking for a gym where you'll feel supported, challenged, and welcomed, Roots is it. We're so grateful we found this place--it's truly one of the best decisions we've made as a family!

Enable your child to learn from the best and enroll them in Zhang Kung Fu Institute! Led by Master…read moreSteven Zhang (Zhang Shifu), children will learn basic skills for flexibility, balance, strength, agility, discipline, self-defense, and weapon proficiency. His experience in various forms of kung fu is unmatched and invaluable to the development of the next generation of kung fu practitioners. There are two tracks of development: traditional belt progression and competition/demo team. Most students will likely start in the traditional belt progression track which consists of learning and performing routines involving various weapons (e.g., fists, sword, staff, daggers, spear, whip chain). Upon gaining proficiency through training, each child will be asked to perform their routine and be assessed for a belt promotion. From one class a week or more, each student should be able to naturally progress (even better if they practice some at home). For the students whom are dedicated to the art and desire to further advance their technique and skills, they may be invited to join the competition/demo team. This subgroup will participate in additional classes to prepare for regional, national, and international competitions and events. In addition to weapon mastery and competition routines, the demo squad will expand on their acrobatics and stances. What distinguishes Zhang Kung Fu Institute from other schools is that a lot of the emphasis is placed on building up the fundamentals which support all forms and routines later on. This is especially important when your child is starting young. Zhang Shifu is routinely invited to judge some of the more well established competitions and has an eye for what will maximize a performance's score. Furthermore, the routines are made available through their website for current students to support at-home training. And most important for us busy parents is that the team is very good at communicating with parents on progress, updates, potential competition and performance opportunities, etc. They make it easy to support our kids' growth and development in the sport. Typical classes start with some warm ups and then the skill or routine of the day. Sprinkled in throughout the class will be fun games that help the students harness a skill or technique natively. For example, they may have sword fighting as an exercise to teach better weapon control and footwork, light sparring with gloves to promote evasive maneuvers and blocking, or line exercises to train agility and strength. In addition to Zhang Shifu, there will be a few student teachers (typically high school students who have trained for years under Zhang Shifu) who will help with the classes. The student-teacher ratio is pretty good - probably about 4-6 students per teacher. Also they have summer classes so if you're looking to give it a try or build a skill, these are great options. Inquire about trial classes too. Typically, they take kids about 4.5 years old and up. My child has been studying under Zhang Shifu for nearly 2 years now and has made leaps and bounds thanks to Zhang Shifu's attention to the fundamentals and encouragement to improve.

Every instructor is very professional, extremely friendly, and patient with the children. The classes are divided into different levels of professional training. The training not only focuses on Kungfu movements but also exercises the children's bodies and builds their confidence. In addition to the primary curriculum, the children also have many opportunities to participate in performances and competitions, providing them with more opportunities to showcase their talents. I am very grateful for the patient guidance of each instructor, and my children truly enjoy their kung fu classes. Student Feedback ( if I can make 10 stars): Suitable for ages four and above, enjoyable, professional movements, physical exercise, and making good friends. Teacher Evaluation (if I can make 10 stars): Professional guidance, patience, and friendliness with children. Parent Feedback (if I can make 10 stars): Excellent communication with the instructors, transparent and prompt responses to any questions. I highly recommend Zhang Kungfu Institute. The children will learn and enjoy themselves there.
