I have been a part of Martial Arts America for about 13 years. This organization is run very well by Master Grant Tabuchi. Being a part of this organization has taught me so much Tae-Kwon-Do; at this school, they teach three branches of arts consisting of jujitsu, eskrima, and tae-kwon-do. In addition to this, they teach self-defense in their Krav Maga classes. I have also been lucky enough to participate in the CIT program which has taught me life skills such as patience, communication, and critical thinking. The CIT program is an amazing learning experience and forces you to step out of your comfort zone. More importantly, this organization has built some of the most important life skills that I possess. Some of the many things that I have learned here are discipline, perseverance, and self-control. Without Martial Arts America I would be a completely different person because all of it has such a profound impact on shaping my character. I've been a student at Martial Arts America under Master Grant Tabuchi for the past eleven years, and have appreciated every minute of it. All of the instructors are amazing at imparting their extensive knowledge in various martial arts. Class sizes are usually the perfect size to promote group activity while allowing for occasional one-on-one help with an instructor. Through my time here, I've learned taekwondo, eskrima, and jujitsu, three of the most important forms of martial arts. Learning self-defense is paramount here, and I'm confident today in my ability to protect myself and others. Master Tabuchi is professional and patient with all of his students, and is able to easily handle larger classes. His experience in the martial arts allows him to give us little tricks and variations on simple techniques to maximize their potency. He emphasizes focus and attention in his teaching and I learn something new in every one of his classes, whether it's a new variation on technique or a better way to execute it. Furthermore, Master T shows us the mental/ emotional side of self-defense and taekwondo. I've learned that the psychological side of martial arts is just as important as the physical side, which I might not have learned in any other dojo. I've grown a lot as a person since I attended my first class when I was six, and I can attribute a lot of it to this school and the instructors here. As young as I was then, I knew I was learning something special. The first things taught to us weren't kicks or punches, but rather how to appreciate the tenets of taekwondo: respect for elders, integrity, indomitable spirit. This review is looong overdue, but better late than never.: I first came along MAA in early 2017 when I was looking for something that would help me -as a woman- to get more confidence with respect to self defense. I signed up for a trial Krav Maga class (on Saturday mornings 9-10 am) and was hooked from the first day. No two classes are the same. The coaches always switch it up while you repeat and deepen the important steps of kicks, punches, defense strategies and so on. I went there every Saturday for a year and had to take a break because of job reasons. But now I'm finally able to go back and I'm already looking forward to the first class in January ! The coaches are awesome and you get familiar with the other students so fast, that after a month or so you already feel like going to sweat, spar, punch and kick your friends My self confidence grew a lot while I took these classes. I felt safe to be all by myself whenever I came across a situation women tend to feel unsafe these days... I would highly recommend taking Krav Maga classes @ MAA. P.S: I got my husband hooked too- he is already heading into his third year with Krav Maga and cannot imagine to ever do anything else than going 3 times a week to classes @ MAA. Like one other reviewer said, my review is also long overdue. Our daughter has been going to MAA for about 5 years now. We had been looking for a place for her to gain confidence and also get armed with basic skills to fend off potential bullies in school. We had no idea she would take to it so enthusiastically. She's so motivated to do well, has advanced quickly and is now about to test for her 2nd degree black belt. She's even participated in two tournaments and done really well in both, placing in nearly every event she competed in. But we can't say this success is solely due to her. Without wonderful teachers like Master Fong, Chief Master T, and Master Brian, she wouldn't be doing as well as she is nor would she have been this motivated. The staff give the kids confidence with positive reinforcement, really great structure for discipline and nuggets of wisdom for life lessons too. They truly care about the kids, make them feel inspired and keep the curriculum exciting and challenging. Even through the exceptionally challenging time of COVID closures, the school worked hard to keep the kids engaged by offering virtual class. And while not ideal of course, the kids still managed to learn and advance their skill set, and had some fun along the way. This place is pretty awesome! My wife bought a Groupon for this place for 8 weeks of martial arts for my daughter. She signed up our daughter, and a few of her friends. The instructors are very good with the kids. Very patient and kind. The facility itself is well laid out as well. We only wished that the parents area, where watched out kid, was bigger. Its a pretty small area, and was quite full by the time i arrived from work to watch my daughter. I had to stand in the doorway. The parking isnt that great either, but i suppose this is mainly aimed at older kids and adults who are probably dropped off, so not many watchers. Still, a great place that left a good impression on me. We'll probably try this place again in the future. read more

I have trained at Martial Arts America for over 9 years to attain my blackbelt. As a hyper kid with little self control my mom decided that martial arts would be a good way to learn self discipline. For 9 years, our head teacher as we affectionately call Mr. T trained us. I grew mentally and emotionally becoming a confident disciplined student in both high school and our martial arts studio. Mr. T is extremely passionate about teaching students, and loves teaching not only martial arts but guidance into being a good person. The staff will challenge the students but are extremely patient helping students achieve perfect form. I started going here when I was 6. My parents were putting me in all sorts of classes to get me to pick a few hobbies. I was a very shy child. But I loved it here. The instructors were friendly and supportive and over the past 14 years, I grew to be more confident as well as stronger, both mentally and physically. I started in the Taekwondo Program, but the curriculum expands to teach jujitsu and eskrima as well as students progress to green belt and up. For the kids that reach black belt, they are often welcome to join in the Krav Maga classes also taught (formerly Tactical Self Defense). Also, select black belt students are invited to participate in an instructors program, where the grandmaster teaches them aspects of teaching. They get more personalized lessons and participate in assisting in classes. These instructor lessons are what really pushed me to grow as a person. I used to be the shyest person I knew, but now I am not afraid to speak in front of a classroom or to lead my martial arts class while the teacher steps out for a moment. I truly believe that Martial Arts America is the reason I am who I am today. The lessons I learned at MAA will help guide me through the rest of my life. Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit, and victory. These are the six tenets recited at the beginning of every class and these are the tenets I choose to live by. My son has been at MAA for 7+ years starting at about age 10. He's currently 3rd degree black belt. This is one activity that he has stuck to on his own more than any other. MAA instructors (Master T, Master Fong, Master Brian) are incredibly devoted to the students. As a parent I appreciate them teaching beyond the skills of taekwondo. They learn the importance of respect, dedication, commitment, self control, focus, responsibility. During pandemic they really went above and beyond to keep the students motivated. The instructors also have a great sense of humor which is a big plus. My son now is driving age and continues to attend classes on his own. I believe MAA helped him apply these life skills to his school work, and will continue when he is off to college next year. My daughter was at MAA age 7-10 after finishing 1st degree. She and my wife have taken Master T's self defense class for teens/women which I highly recommend. We were not sure if this was one of those extracurriculars that our kids would enjoy. I believe place teaches a variety of Martial Arts, but I strictly go here to learn Krav Maga. Speaking on that class alone, I can say that the instructors are very knowledgeable and experienced at what they do, not just in the art but also in teaching. The class sizes are not too large and you get a lot of one on one time with the instructor. I went here for about 3 years. Krav maga. I moved out of the area and no longer could do the classes. I would go every class, no matter what. I learned so much so fast. My 10-year-old son has been training in Tae Kwon Do at Martial Arts America in Fremont, CA for 3 years and enjoys it very much. He has struggled with shyness over the years and I feel that martial arts has helped him to come out of his shell some and it has increased his confidence. My son will be testing for his black belt in September and he is very proud of the progress he has made. I am also attending classes for Tae Kwon Do at the age of 46. I started classes 2 1/2 years ago. When I first started I was out of shape and hadn't worked out for about 15 years. I was unsure about wether I could take the class or not. I asked one of the instructors if he thought I could do the class and he said, "Why not?" I explained that I was 44 years old, out of shape, and overweight! He asked me to come in and give it a try. I ended up loving it! I have lost some weight and I feel a lot better health-wise. I will also be testing for my black belt in September. I feel very happy about the accomplishments my son and I have obtained through martial arts. We plan on continuing with Martial Arts America for many years to come. We love the instructors and the way the classes are structured. The instructors are high ranking and have had years of experience in martial arts. Mr. Jensen, Mr. Fong, Mr. T, and Mr. Nunez as well as the CIT instructors are all awesome! They have given my son and I extra help and encouragement when we needed it. Mr. Jensen, in particular, has taken the time to give me a lot of extra help over the last year. He trained myself and my class partner one -on-one to prepare us for jiu jitsu testing. My daughter loves karate classes here. The teachers are so good at motivating the students, and the kids advance by belt testing at a good pace. This program has helped my daughter gain confidence, strength, and it is great exercise too. The kids can do a free trial class to make sure they have the focus needed, and they are honestly evaluated. If they aren't ready, they can try again later. I like how they encourage good deeds, respect, and hard work. After a few months attending here, my kid wants to do black belt club! She hasn't wanted to stick with many sports. I enrolled my grandson here when he was 5 1/2 yrs old. I wanted him to learn self control and self discipline. I wasn't sure how long he'd stay interested, but he's been there over a year now. He has been working hard to make his way up the rankings and has been very successful. The teachers are so patient, and really care about the kids. I love going to watch and my grandson loves going to learn. He's very enthusiastic about practicing and showing off his ability to anyone that comes into our home. Before signing him up, I went and visited some other schools and when I walked in it was unorganized and students were all over the place. This was the only school that seemed in "control" of their students and offered private lessons at no additional cost. That tells me they care about their students. Master Brian has been incredible as has all the other instructors. Thank you MMA for giving my grandson the confidence and self esteem that he now has because of you. I have two children attending taekwondo classes here at MAA, from the Tiny Tigers to Leadership. Mr. Jensen , Mr. Fong and Mr. Brian each cater to young students with enthusiasm. Pros: - friendly teaching staff are really good at what they do - emphasis on application - teaching goes at your pace Cons: - depending on where you live in the Bay Area, it could mean some driving time (although they do have several locations) - you have to be willing to put in the time and effort both inside and outside of class if you really want to improve (not necessarily a con, but something to be mindful of) I started taking lessons with Martial Arts America a few months ago, and was pretty impressed by how insightful and friendly the staff were. I had studied wushu before, and wanted to learn something beyond just practicing more forms or trying to earn more belts. The teaching staff took the time to help me figure out what would be most suitable for my situation and ever since have really tried to teach to my needs/interests. Now, I am studying eskrima with a fair amount of practical unarmed self-defense techniques thrown in, which I greatly enjoy. It is true that there is a fair amount of memorization involved, but what I appreciate most about MAA is their heavy emphasis on understanding the application of techniques instead of just forms. My instructors always emphasize the practice of the techniques we learn - for example, using eskrima to disarm an aggressive attacker. The instructors know how to go at your pace, and indeed are constantly pushing you just hard enough so that the challenge can help you grow as a martial artist. Admittedly, I have not had lessons with all of the instructors or at all of the locations, and thus cannot generalize my experience to everyone. However, at least for me, I'm really happy about the quality of instruction here at MAA and think it is worth at least checking it out if you or your child is interested in learning martial arts. read more

My daughter just turned seven on the 20th of November and she likes doing karate. We have been attending for over 4 months now and it really helps us both when it comes to discipline. My daughter is the type that is motivated by awards and certificates so whenever she comes home with a new belt or stripe, she cannot wait to show her grandpa. I don't know if she will be able to get a certificate anytime soon because she doesn't say Ah yah! loud enough. I organized a self defense class in the Dublin location with a bunch of moms and soon to be college students. Although any young teen can handle this class, we specifically designed this class for self defense tactics and preparedness should our girls, or the moms, ever become victims of an attack. Coach Grant T was professional, organized and passionate about giving us the tools needed to defend ourselves in several different situations. He can design a class to meet your requests and concerns about safety, seeing that safety is a huge issue parents want to learn about and feel confident about before their child enters their college life. Not only should safety be addressed before heading to college, but at all times! Coach Grant T shows specific ways to be aware of and get out of a given attack.
