I found an invoice from Rye visiting my home for an HVAC service. Here was the cost breakdown:…read more - Internal Item: 245050, Qty: 1, 40VA Multivolt transformer, $131.00 - Internal Item: 177050, Qty: 1, 1 pole contactor 30 amp 24 v, $88.00 - Internal Item: Diagnostic Analysis, Qty: 1, General Service Call | Diagnostic, $79.99 - Sales Tax, $20.18 - TOTAL: $319.17 Out of curiosity, I decided to research how much those first two line items cost at your typical big box home improvement store: - 40VA Multivolt transformer averages $20.00 to $40.00 - 1 pole contactor 30 amp 24 v averages $15.00 Make of that information as you will. Oh, also, they fried my smart home $198 thermostat when they were messing with the components on the condensing unit outside. The technician must've touched and left two hot wires touching that shouldn't have been in contact with each other. While inside, my thermostat made a progressively loud buzzing sound then, five seconds later, went "POP!" and smoke was coming out the back of it. At first they refused to pay for a replacement and, instead, offered me a ~$20 cheap replacement thermostat. I refused and told the tech to wait in his vehicle while I drove back to a home improvement store to purchase the same model/type they fried. While out, the tech called and said he had to leave for another client's appointment window. By the time he returned to my home I had the replacement thermostat installed. He had the audacity to then say he was going to charge me for two visits. After some 'common sense' discussions on the matter, he didn't charge for a second visit and, after calling back to HQ, they agreed to only pay for half of the replacement thermostat unit they fried. I've never forgiven them for this and finding this old invoice in my records finally compelled me to share my story.

When I decided to replace one of my HVAC systems, I scheduled meetings with several vendors…read more Ultimately, I selected Rye based on the level of professionalism exhibited by my first contact with Seth, their representative who came to the house. He was very informative and knowledgeable about both the equipment and the installation process. The team that installed the unit, (Austin, Cody, and Juan) were also as professional and obviously very well experienced and knowledgeable. They arrived when they said they would and completed the entire installation in one day. I would highly recommend Rey HVAC to any of my friends and family. Glen N. Lincolnton, NC

In October of 2019, we purchased a home in Denver, NC. Before we purchased the home, I personally…read morechecked the heating and cooling system and these units operated in optimal working order. Before we moved in, I had our general contractor make arrangements for a local HVAC company to come to the home to inspect our units for our peace of mind. My contractor contacted Henson Mechanical of Denver, NC for service. A Henson technician came out to inspect our units. After the inspection, the tech cited a long list of problems with one of my units followed by a recommendation for the replacement of that AC unit. Below are copies of Henson recommendation and estimate: After the service call from Henson, one of the AC units started to shutdown automatically within a few minutes of starting. I then call another local HVAC company in Denver for a second opinion. Their technician was honest and extremely bright. Upon his inspection of the circuitry board on my AC unit, he discovered a test strip was left attached to my unit. As it was explained to me, a "test strip" is a rubber strip placed in two specific locations on in the circuitry board to simulate a fault condition triggering an automatic shutdown of the unit. HVAC technicians test the automatic shutdown function to ensure it proper working order so that if the unit was to experience a serious fault, it would automatically shutoff to save the unit from damage. I believe this test strip was purposely left on my AC unit only to force me to purchase a new unit. Henson also informed me that I had a evaporator coil leak. Upon further inspection from the other HVAC company, it was discovered that Mylar seal had not been broken only to indicate that the no access was ever made for a proper inspection. Henson also quoted me for a replacement for the duct work for my HVAC. The tech from the other HVAC told me he saw no serious issues with my duct work. Before I wrote this review, I called Henson Mechanical 5 times to afford them a fair opportunity to explain themselves to correct any misconceptions or errors I had made in my assessment. When I called them, I asked the receptionist to speak to the owner(s) or the tech Henson sent to my home. It's been over 4 months I still yet have not heard back from Henson for an plausible explanation. I gave them one last opportunity yesterday to call me back and I still haven't heard back. At this point I will have to presume that my assessment of Henson's Mechanical is accurate and Henson's Mechanical was operating in an unethical manner. The company that serviced my HVAC after Henson's charged me $160.00 to inspect my unit and remove the test strip left by Henson's versus $9100 that Henson's wanted to charge me for a complete HVAC replacement. I do not recommend Henson Mechanical for any service needs.
