The SA says I need to build a relationship with her - start from scratch, despite the history with the store. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I have shopped at Hermes in Europe, King of Prussia and at Short Hills and found the Short Hills store to provide the best service. I waited a few minutes before approached by a very knowledgeable and personable salesperson. I had asked him to bring out several different colors of the sandals I was interested in purchasing and even several pairs of the same color in the same size to see which fit the best and he was quite accommodating. I was there shortly after the store opened on a weekday. My suggestion would be not to go on weekends and/or make an appointment if you are interested in purchasing a bag. read more

Amazingly unhelpful. I already knew what i wanted and that I'd buy one or two items during my visit but I also knew I might have to encounter the repulsive attitude mentioned in most reviews. Well, They didn't disappoint on that front. I walked in, said hello - thought being friendly would help; Didn't help. 3 stone-faced attendants, not busy with anyone, saw me enter the store. I must have said I need help three times yet no one approached me. One salesperson still refusing to walk towards me, instead asked me to show her what I'm looking for. I seem to keep forgetting this, or hoping the associates have finally undergone some basic training (which it seems after years, they still haven't). I return a few times a year to purchase a special gift for my husband. Each and every time, I leave feeling so mad that I am supporting such a nasty staff. I'm barely greeted or acknowledged when I enter the boutique. If I need to wait for find someone to help me, I'm aimlessly standing around wondering how long that will take. God forbid you have a service/repair or a return. You WILL be treated like a piece of garbage. What this staff has failed to learn is that ANY interaction, ANY transaction, can earn you a customer for life. With them, with their partner, with their family and friends. I've learned my lesson. It was the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. My wife bought me a bracelet as a birthday gift and I wore it only 2 days and there are scratches all over the bracelet. I took that to store to explain what happened and the store manager Robert gave me a nasty attitude, he didn't even listen to me, only thing he was saying is if the bracelet touches somewhere it would get scratch, so how are we going to use the bracelet, shouldn't we wear them to protect from scratches. I was trying to explain but he didn't even listen to me. He's attitude was unacceptable at least in Hermes. I'm a pretty good judge of luxury retail, having worked for Tiffany & Company for many years, and traveled the globe training staff and opening new stores among other things. I have to say that Hermes must have their training down pat, as I've shopped this location for years and have received terrific customer service. The sales professionals have broad and deep product knowledge, the selling experience is polished, and the fact that they have wonderful goods helps as well. I'm not sure where the negative comments are coming from. A lot of their inventory is scarce but you can't blame the employees who work there. Anyways, I always have a pleasant experience. Every time I enter the store, I am greeted by several individuals who want to help. I have a certain sales associate who assists in my every purchase. Making an appointment, before going in, helps too. Few selections in store but if you see something online they can order it for you and even check inventory we can't see. True story: I walked into this Hermes to purchase an item which you can only request once every six months. They stated they could not find me in the system - which based on my purchase history could not have been true. They then pulled out a piece of register paper, wrote down my name and number and said they would call me when it comes in. When I stated that I'm not new to this and I know the ordering process they stated to me that if I would like to experience the proper service I will need to bring in all of my receipts from ALL of my Hermes purchases dating back to 2008 as they can not locate me in the system. I was shocked but said no problem, I will see you tomorrow (I do not throw things away). The next day, when I walked with all my receipts the wonderfully obnoxious store manager that sent me away to fetch them the day prior turned a pale white and said to me that I would need to follow up with the stores at Riverside and Madison to see as to why my previous purchase information was not in the system. (Note: no apology was given!) Wonderful job ladies- just a word to the wise nothing sold in your store is a necessity, you may get further with your customers by thinking outside of your orange box. read more

Stop in here whenever I'm in the area to see what's new. Used to work with a sales associate who is no longer there (Piper) who helped me purchase a lovely bag. Since she left, I've connected with an SA who is very nice but we keep missing one another. In any case, yesterdays drop by was embarrassing for Hermes. When asked to see an item, a sales associate opened a drawer and removed a pair of well used white cotton gloves. She informed me that I must don them in order to touch anything. When I asked if she had a fresh pair, I was told "no". So I made her touch the bag and highlight its features while she wore her personal silk gloves. Their definition and my definition of not a lot of money is at odds with one another. It was with this knowledge that I wasted my time walking in. Explained to the saleswoman what I wanted (anything Hermes) and what I wanted to spend. You would have thought that I asked her for an alligator Birkin because her demeanor and attitude were unwavering. With a smile, she walked me over to a display case and showed me a silk printed hair tie at a whopping...drum roll please...$150!! What? $150, really? Really. I walked out that day with an impeccably wrapped, beautiful gift that my niece absolutely loved and actually spent less on it than I had in mind. Kudos. read more

I love Hermes and wear their scarves often. I have picked them up all over the world and they hold up so well. The service at stores is usually terrific. I did not have the same issues here many reviewers seem to. But I often am wearing one of their scarves so that may help. Even dressed casual for the mall, I have one on my purse. As a result, I have not had service issues here. But the selection is not as strong as some of the other stores. More like some of the duty free stores in various airports. A little limited. He did a phenomenal job, and this was the first time I've ever bought anything from Hermès. He was patient, very helpful, knowledgeable, et cetera. I never felt he was pushy, and he did a great job helping me find the exact product I'd wanted. If I had ordered online it would have been a disaster. My husband wanted a different scarf and wanted to get a refund. Store does not offer that. Had I bought the same exact scarf online I would have been able to... makes no sense. As we went for the refund (which we could not get) we asked to then see other samples. We were told to go online... We asked if we could then use the store credit online... but no! Hands down the WORST Hermes store I have ever shopped in. While the store is beautiful with a robust selection, I refuse to shop here due to the inferior and rude customer service. During my most recent visit, which will be my last, not a single sales person approached me, despite the fact that I was clearly interested in seeing some of the merchandise. After close to 20 minutes, an older saleswoman who seemed kind approached me to see if I needed help. At that point I had already decided to not purchase at this location, and replied "no thank you." As she turned away, I could see a younger salesgirl with long blonde hair mouth to her, "don't waste your time" and make some ridiculous expression that resembled a child indicating to another child that they had cooties. So here we go- Something this moronic salesgirl should note: there are mirrors ALL OVER Hermes! Customers can SEE YOU! At this point I turned and walked over to let the other members of my party know that I was leaving. As I walked passed the idiot salesgirl, without even trying to hide what she was doing, she actually looked at the jewelry pieces I had on. Suddenly, she had mentally determined that I could afford Hermes :::Pfff::: and quickly approached asking if I needed help with anything. I told her "no...but you clearly do" and walked out. i simply went home and ordered my piece online tht night. Sorry moron- no commission for you :*( I'd like to say that the failure here is that of this idiot. However, it isn't. My wife and I love the brand and own many items from Hermes bought in many stores from NYC to Paris and Milan and have always received great service. We walked into the Short Hills store on a weekday and were the only customers. I walked to the back to look at ties and wallets and my wife was in the front of the store looking at handbags. The two salespeople never acknowledged our presence and as a result, we walked out without buying. This review is to state that the sales people need to improve their customer service skills in a Short Hills as the customer experience is not anything like other Hermes stores. As soon as I walked in, a young gentleman (who worked on Aug 22) who is tall with an army buzz cut hair, took a look at his watch, let out a big sigh and started to shake his head. Appalled, I looked at him and asked "are you guys closing soon"? He then replied, uhm yeah but once you're in you're fine. Well with that tone and gesture, I was not going to stay in the store one second longer and walked out. I've spoken to a few Sales people in this store. Nothing and no one is like Sarah. I did not get her last name. I wanted to buy a pair of boots for almost 1,600 dollars. She brought me my size and the shoe seemed big. I asked her if she has a smaller size in which she stated that only their Hawaii stores have such small sizes as my shoe size is out of the norm. I was also with a few of my children and albeit they were not being the best behaved. I explained to her that I would go to lunch and think about these boots in which she responded with " I think you should go have a drink."
