Bryan apologized and said he had been very busy, so everything seemed to work out and I received some options on time frame of when I could schedule class for the next month. After a bit of phone/email tag, we connected and on 10/4 we scheduled class for 10/23. I was asked to call and confirm the week before to make sure that time was still good, as Bryan said he had been very busy. No big deal, happy to do that. I called to confirm class on 10/17, and left a voicemail. I hadn't heard back on 10/18 so called again and sent a text asking to confirm class on 10/23. By the night of 10/19 I hadn't heard anything. Feeling a little uncomfortable with the lack of communication, and not wanting to drive to Hermosa Beach to potentially be turned away, I asked for a refund via email. On 10/20 I called and received no response, but texted to ask for a refund and got a reply. I was told that the situation was "ridiculous" and I would receive a refund minus a $50 scheduling fee. One week later on 10/27 I had not received the refund, so I reached out to ask for an update. I received a refund minus $50. The glasshouse.ws website makes no mention of a fee, and I'm not sure why I'm the one losing $50 considering the difficulty of working with this business. Glasshouse.ws outlines their refund policy in detail, even differentiating products vs classes, with no mention of a $50 fee. Verbatim from glasshouse.ws: "There are no refunds provided for products. The "product" are items for sale on website. The "courses"  are classes offered by Glass House Studio.  Class gift receipts require at least two week prior scheduling to redeem.  Items shipped that arrive broken require return of product to exchange for equal value.  The purchaser is responsible for return delivery.  After sixty days of purchase of classes no refunds are accepted.  Classes can sometimes and without notice be shortened and or rescheduled.  We will make every effort to accommodate the loss of value by offering an additional date. All quotes or bids on products require a deposit to begin working.  This deposit is always non refundable."

When I first started surfing, I attempted to teach myself through youtube but boy was I wrong. I was never able to stand up or read which waves were good to catch. And not only that, but my stance and position on the board was all wrong. Kawika helped me to not look like a fool while surfing haha He is the most welcoming and encouraging person i've ever met. He's FANTASTIC with any age! From 4 years old to 74 years old, he can get anyone up and surfing in one hour. I was able to stand up on my first try and out of about 40 waves (that he helps you catch) I only fell twice! Talk about improvement. It was SO fun, I scheduled another lesson the next day and learned even more. It really is a blessin to get a lesson haha!

Yak Academy is a great little school! Our daughter is…read moreenrolled in the mandarin immersion program and is learning very well. She really likes the school and her teachers. I get the impression the teachers really like working there, too. Everyone is always friendly and welcoming, lots of smiles. The kids learn in what I would call a playful way and seem to have lots of fun. I often wait until the classes are over, working on my laptop in the small lobby. I have yet to see a crying child, which In my opinion equals a little miracle. The kids don't get "drilled", disciplined or coerced into learning, as we have seen happen while touring other schools (to the point where it felt like we stepped into some authoritarian institution in Beijing). But I digress: What's important is that our daughter is always happy to go to Yak Academy. She's having fun while learning and is always cheerful when she comes out of the classroom. I personally can't think of anything more to ask from a school. P..S.: The healthy, vegan food options nearby are a bonus if I have time to go for a snack.

He can be difficult and temperamental but she's been incredibly kind and patient with him. He loves her and her class and the fact that he keeps going back every Saturday for an 1.5 hrs away from his video games is testament to this place. Everyone I've spoken to there has been super nice and helpful, even if we'd had to reschedule a class at the last minute. I must note that my son did not love his first teacher and class, like I said, he can be difficult, but the director was incredibly patient and considerate and after listening to our feedback, switched him to a different class and teacher, which was much better suited for him and he's been loving it ever since. This is just to say, even if the first class doesn't work, you might give it another chance and try a different one. Highly recommend this place!

My son got to try out a class with Coach Roy (who was wonderful!) to see if it was a good fit for him, and now he takes lessons weekly with Coach Justice (equally fantastic!). The whole staff is warm and friendly, and they accommodate to each child's needs. Coach Justice provides great structure and challenge for my son, while also allowing him the agency to be creative in what he's learning and working on. My son is engaged and focused the whole hour, and is really proud to show us at home the progress he's made each week.
