We started the teen curriculum for my 11 year old over the summer. The program was well done and my daughter loved it and learned new techniques. She really looked up to her instructor/mentors and enjoyed seeing them work on their own projects. We would have loved to continue but unfortunately we had to move out of South Bay. We know they have a second studio in Santa Monica so we hope to join that one once we can move back to our home in West LA. The tuition prices were a great deal for what we gained from the classes. My son has been taking classes here for a year and he's made some beautiful artwork. This is someone who has never been interested in art so I give kudos to his teacher, Ms. Lauren. He can be difficult and temperamental but she's been incredibly kind and patient with him. He loves her and her class and the fact that he keeps going back every Saturday for an 1.5 hrs away from his video games is testament to this place. Everyone I've spoken to there has been super nice and helpful, even if we'd had to reschedule a class at the last minute. I must note that my son did not love his first teacher and class, like I said, he can be difficult, but the director was incredibly patient and considerate and after listening to our feedback, switched him to a different class and teacher, which was much better suited for him and he's been loving it ever since. This is just to say, even if the first class doesn't work, you might give it another chance and try a different one. Highly recommend this place! read more

This studio was not a good fit for my 6 year old. I stayed for the entire 90 minute intro class. My daughter completed her butterfly artwork within the first 20 minutes, after which she was left with nothing else to do. Unsurprisingly, she became bored and restless. Afterward, I received feedback framing this as a focus issue and inability to remain seated, despite the fact that I had already disclosed her speech delay and autism to staff upon arrival. Rather than offering accommodations, enrichment, or flexibility, the studio treated her boredom as a readiness issue and suggested another trial to "evaluate" her. Expecting a six year old to sit still for 90 minutes after finishing the assigned work with no additional engagement is unrealistic. The program appears rigid and not well suited for younger or neurodivergent children. read more

Oh, we just love Alyce in our household. Alyce has been a great teacher/mentor for my daughter over the past 2 years. She really took my daughter's talent to another level. My daughter went from being an above-average artist to a standout, winning several outside art contests. She offers her lessons in small groups in a peaceful environment. And Kudos for being flexible at rearranging lessons when my daughter had conflicts with soccer, etc. In addition, Alyce offers internships to her older students to give them work experience (my daughter loved this). She's conveniently located walking distance from the high school, so that's a bonus. (Also, located next to Dr. Hom; yes, everyone in MB seems to use him for braces). I signed my daughter up for these classes and after two months of coming weekly, I have to say I'm impressed. My daughter is taught by Carly and she is extremely sweet and helpful. Typically my 8 year old daughter is timid and shy, but she warmed up to Carly rather quickly. The classes are an hour and a half long so you really feel like your child is getting what you pay for as far as time and productivity. The studio uses high quality materials and a complete lesson plan that guides the kids into learning techniques at a gradual pace. My favorite thing about the studio is that they teach the child visually on a small paper above your child's work, this way the instructor doesn't touch or alter your kid's art. It makes it more about the child and you know your kid is talented when you realize they did everything on their own. They also allow the kids freedom to choose what to draw within the realm of the lesson plan, which makes it more fun for the child. I think this is a great studio and set up. We will be here for the long haul. *I am also a teacher and I love the style that they use to educate my child. It's very developmentally appropriate. read more

I cannot say enough about Alyce's Art Studio! This is a true neighborhood gem in the South Bay. The vibe is welcoming and supportive while at the same time challenging each artist to reach their next level. Because the class sizes are not huge the program allows for lots of one on one attention and is catered to each individual student's level. My 9 year old son has always been interested in drawing and painting. A friend of ours referred us to Alyce's and he has been a student there for about 2 years. He LOVES it!
