The absolute best surf instructor there is! Kawika is easy going, easy to communicate with but most importantly knows what he's doing and knows how to teach anyone at any age. I signed my 6 year old daughter up for lessons and she loves it! She feels so comfortable learning from him and that's super important especially when out in the ocean. She looks forward to her lessons, never stops talking about them once it's done & genuinely loves to surf because of how he taught her! She stood up on her first day which is amazing. NO ONE BOOK WITH SURF BLESSONS. HE IS A SCAM ARTIST I booked a surf lesson - the guy was nice on the phone - he asked me to pay $150 in advance to secure my spot, which I did. He then repeatedly cancelled on me - it was months and I could not book a surf lesson. When I asked for a refund, he refused, saying I cancelled. This guy is a fraud and a scam. Beware! Do not prepay for surf lessons. I booked my daughters lesson with him a month in advance because we were traveling from out of town. My daughter and I showed up at the agreed upon place and time and he did not show up even though he asked me to prepay, which I did. When I texted to find out where he was he explained he couldn't make it. Frustrated, I still rescheduled for the next day because my daughter was so looking forward to the surf lesson. He then cancelled again on us and suggested I use a guy named Zach. I asked for my money back and he agreed but took 3 months to pay me back after many texts and phone calls. DO NOT PREPAY is my best advice. Or choose a different instructor that will respect your time. I have attached saved text messages from him to back all of this up. Oh and on his instagram page, which I followed, he was posting from another city an hour away surfing himself. It was clear he just didn't want to drive in for the lesson. read more

While there are plenty of instructors that teach surfing, with many of them, I don't know what I'm getting. I found Surf Blessons at a local beach event, and he totally seemed like a good guy. I soon followed him on social media, where I was intrigue and entertained- sometimes laughing at his posts. He's very animated and very knowledgeable of the ocean's movements. I was a little bit uneasy at first. I have always wanted to learn how to surf, but didn't feel too cool about being unable to head into the water to learn. Kawika brushed it all aside, and made me feel like a duckling as he led me into the waves. Before long, I was just like a baby duck, happily splashing and learning to ride the waves safely to the shore. My body is asymmetrical, so my balance isn't like a normal person's. With his long time of experiences, he was able to tailor me accordingly to my astonishment. I've had multiple lessons with this fellow now, and I've learned something new each time we go out into the ocean. Which is perfect, because the conditions change almost always. read more

Kawiki is absolutely the best surf instructor on the planet! I've taken lessons before but never gotten so many "aha moment" tips in such a short amount of time. He really knows what he's doing and he's able to translate that to me (someone who doesn't know what they are doing) in a fun and non-intimidating environment. He was super easy to schedule with and had great availability to work around my work schedule. His nuggets of wisdom are well worth what he charges and he even provides a Go-Pro video to be able to look back. MY GOODNESS! These surfing lessons are as good as it gets. You learn about the safety and the history and it altogether means so much more when you surf. When I first started surfing, I attempted to teach myself through youtube but boy was I wrong. I was never able to stand up or read which waves were good to catch. And not only that, but my stance and position on the board was all wrong. Kawika helped me to not look like a fool while surfing haha He is the most welcoming and encouraging person i've ever met. He's FANTASTIC with any age! From 4 years old to 74 years old, he can get anyone up and surfing in one hour. I was able to stand up on my first try and out of about 40 waves (that he helps you catch) I only fell twice! Talk about improvement. It was SO fun, I scheduled another lesson the next day and learned even more. It really is a blessin to get a lesson haha! read more

SCAM DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THIS PERSON! Contacted Kawika when we arrived in Hermosa Beach and he asked for a deposit of $100 through the Zelle app to hold an appointment for surf lessons. He told me he doesn't have Venmo probably because he ripped someone else off with that payment app. He cancelled because the waves were not good and asked if we could go the following day. We told him we could not because we were flying home. When he asked for the deposit he said he would refund it if we were not able to get our lessons due to the weather or wave conditions. It has been almost 2 weeks now and each time I contact him he says he will send the refund that night however he of course never does and that is why I am leaving the review. Now we have to go through the process of trying to cancel the payment through the app. Very disappointed that there are people out there that do this kind of stuff. Should have known better to send a payment without any written paperwork however we were rushed for time and took him as a nice person. Lesson learned!
