President's Reserve course. Only 20 minutes from Nashville. The course is in great condition, beautiful, challenging and fun. Sheep roaming and mining their own business. Received a free round after 4th full priced round. Pretty good deal if you live nearby. And the beer after the round is only a penny per stroke, for real. You just need to show your scorecard. Hermitage is the kind of course that makes you wonder if the grass has a skincare routine. The fairways? Perfectly manicured--like they were trimmed by angels with tiny scissors. The greens? So smooth you'll want to roll a picnic blanket out and call it a day. Honestly, if your ball doesn't roll true here, that's on you, champ. The layout is fun, challenging, and just scenic enough to make you forget how many balls you've donated to the water hazards. It's the rare course where you'll finish 18 holes and think, "Yeah, I could do that again," even if your scorecard looks like a math problem gone wrong. Bottom line: Hermitage is a Nashville gem. I'm not the most well traveled golf tourist, but when I find a reasonably priced, well-maintained, public course out of state, I feel it's my duty to share my review. The golf course was in amazing condition with (despite the recent heat) soft greens and fairways, well manicured from tee box to green and a beautiful facility... Oh, and of course, sheep! We played the week following aeration, but the greens were still manageable and we received a $10 credit on our round which was reasonable. read more

I've been playing here for at least 12 years and it's gone way down hill all while getting ridiculously expensive for what it is. It's the worst range conditions I've ever seen, for example. Also, I've left 2 range finders in the cart by accident. My fault obviously, but when I call the next day they say they "don't have it." I even asked about their policy with rangefinders and they play dumb. The employees are stealing the rangefinders and items left behind in carts. I can guarantee you that. I will be ending my 12+ years of giving this place my business. Play somewhere else in Nashville. read more

I drive from Franklin to play Hermitage several times a year as both courses are well cared for and fun to play. Until today. Pace of play was 6 hours with a bunch of groups jumping holes at twilight cutting in front of groups who are trying to finish their rounds. No rangers to assist pace of play or those thinking they were the only ones on the course. Can't say I'll be back. read more

My friends and I love golf, but we normally slum it and play a cheaper course, because simply put we're not that good. We stepped up our game and decided to play the Hermitage course and we're blown away by the greens here. The course is beautifully maintained and easy to navigate thanks to the digital map in our golf carts. I believe hole 9 was the nuttiest hole with it having a literal 90' right turn at the end of the fairway. I really enjoyed the shorter holes and the challenging water features. The golf carts here are plush and come with bluetooth speakers, easy course mapping and distance guides, plus a digital score card. The restaurant, Hickory Sticks Grill, overlooks hole 18 and offers a full bar and a loaded menu. Plenty of snacks, sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast served all day. Normally when we play the "cheaper" courses it's about $30 each not including the cart. For an extra $25 to play here, Hermitage is definitely worth it! We will be back, but maybe when it's not 100' outside. read more

It has been several years since I have paid to play here. Have played in a few corporate events here. Those have been on the Presidents..... used to call it the new course, but it is not new anymore. Friday prices have damn near doubled, let's say in the last 5 years. $93..... Course is in great shape. Generals has taken a new look with the non-golf areas getting some 3 foot tall grass. Looks awesome, but no forgiveness. By non-golf, I mean between fairways, around greens, generally in slice and hook MISS areas.... :) Need to speed along play and just play it as LATERAL Hazard vs Lost Ball. Carts don't have coolers anymore, and the drink girls only made it around 2 times on the 1st 9. We had to call the club house on the 2nd 9 and by 7 holes the girl made it back to us. Would have bought more, but NO COOLERS and 90 degrees, even the ice bag did not make it 4 holes. read more

Played here a few days ago and needless to say, i wasn't impressed. For the amount they're charging people, I expected the course to be in better condition. Tee boxes overgrown with weeds and the fairway full of non repaired divots. As you can tell by the pictures, they don't have an ice chest or sand to fill in the divots I mentioned. I went with my husband so he could hit some balls, which is the best deal for $18.00 and you hit as long as you want as long as there are balls available to fill your bucket. It has a chipping area as well as a putting area. It's a very nice facility. So after a couple of buckets, we grabbed a salad and drinks at the clubhouse. Now this is where I have to say was the best chicken salad salad at. I love chicken salad but often has grapes and not a fan. This had no fruit but was so delicious. This is one of my absolute favorite places to golf in Nashville. Both President's Reserve and General's Retreat are phenomenal (although given the choice I would opt for President's). Greens are well-kept (and fast), the scenery is beautiful, and the range balls are free. The practice facilities are top notch as well. I paid $110 to wait in line on the first hole, and didn't tee off until 20 min after my tee time. No starter, and no one monitoring pace of play. You can spend half the money on any other public course in Nashville and you'll have a much better experience. I'd rather go to Top Golf. All I can say is wow. This course is very very well Kept. And the staff is amazing. Came into town for business and we had a charity tournament for St Jude here. The course is amazing and quite a challenge. They have a herd of goats that roam the courses which was a sight. Lots of other wildlife about as well. Turkeys, deer, bobcats, turtles. They have cottages on the course you can stay in and they are Super super nice. Highly recommend for a weekends guys trip!! read more

A great course, ALMOST! (I played the General's course) The course was in, overall, REALLY good shape. The greens were fast but true. Fairways were very well taken care of and the rough (which I saw a LOT of) was good, although "sponge-y" in places. A couple of tough lies from errant shots, but hey, that's my fault. The practice area was fantastic. It sure was nice to have solid turf as well as a few different areas to work on your game. Inside was very nice. Pro-shop staff was professional and courteous. As a single, they put me with a group and the starter was great, introducing all of the people in the group. A nice touch. Reasonable, and very tasty lunch in the clubhouse was a salad and soft drink. The only issue: lack of on-course amenities. There were a couple of events, so perhaps the beverage cart was near them, but in 90+ degree heat, a bev cart was sorely missed. So were cart towels, sand/seed mix, and club washers on the cart. GPS was not to the pin, and seemed to be "off." No Marshall out there to keep the (slow) pace of play. That all said: it's nit-pickey. I'd rather NOT have that with all of the positives I mentioned. The course was fair, the green complexes GINORMOUS, and conditions were great. If in the Nashville area again, I would definitely play again and strongly recommend to all golfers. read more

The cabins are very sleek, new, & clean. Bigger than you expect, both bedrooms & bathrooms are massive & again, clean. Loved our stay.

We played here while vacationing in Nashville--the President's Reserve. It's a nice course and no major hazards or difficulties. It's a busy facility and we felt very rushed on the course. The pro shop staff were friendly, as well as the starter, but they seemed to assume we played there before. We hadn't and needed a little guidance on where to drop our clubs, first tee, etc. We could have played again during our time in Nashville, but didn't have a grand enough experience to warrant going back. We chose another course. Perhaps we'll return another time and play the General's Retreat...we'll see. read more

Hermitage Golf Course is a must if you are looking to golf around the Middle Tennessee area. They have excellent practice facilities, and tough tee to green layouts. Carts are equipped with GPS and USB charging stations. Hermitage offers two 18 hole challenges. The Presidents Reserve is a the longer of the two, but both hold dangerous breaks on and around the green. Keep a look out of the sheep. Hermitage is home to the black horn sheep and have become quite the mascot for the course itself. The course has its own pro shop with excellent attire and equipment to fit all your golfing needs. I will 100% continue to frequent Hermitage Golf Course. Best course in town! read more

- Wedding Venue Review - My friend got married here earlier this month. The venue itself is very pretty and allows for an outdoor event under a covered patio preventing sunburns and blocking rain (which came in handy for this particular event). The food was very delicious with most people returning for seconds; but what really pushed me to give a five star review was the onsite wedding coordinator, Monica. I have never worked with a more knowledgeable, helpful, and organized onsite venue manager (speaking as corporate event manager). She kindly offered suggestions of details we hadn't thought of without being pushy or condescending while at the same time being open minded to last minute audibles called on our end. She somehow was everywhere and still calm -placing tablecloths, adjusting easels, arranging chairs all while never failing to ensure the groom had beer and bride champagne. Monica definitely earned these five stars. Even the best plsanned events can go sour without proper onsite management. Hermitage Golf Course is definitely worth looking into for your next function. read more

Played both Presidents Reserve and General's Retreat. Played in the offseason so conditions were not as good as they would have been in the Spring-Fall. With that said both courses were very playable and outside of new growth were appeasing to the eye. Both courses can play to decent length with the Reserve backing up to 7200. Along with length, the Reserve has more character than the General but not significant enough to make up for the difference in price. I can really only describe the General as just a fun course to play. Challenging but still very playable equals a fun time on the golf course. The Reserve is much more difficult and penalizing if you aren't hitting it straight. I recommend playing both courses but if money is an issue the General is the better bang for your buck. read more

We played the Presidents Reserve today ... for $70 I thought it was a complete POS ... the greens were pock marked with unrepaired ball divots and several areas (on the green mind you) were bare dirt ... no grass. This is what I expect of a $25 muni ... not a $70 (2pm rate) "top rated" course. I will say the say the fairways were in excellent condition which is why I am giving it 2 stars instead of one. I have hope, but the greens keepers have a lot of work ahead of them to repair these greens. read more

Hermitage May be a bit on the pricey side, but you'll find your money is well spent regardless of the course. Slightly more open with the General, slightly more scenic with the President, but you won't be disappointed with either course. What can I say but, worth every penny. Stayed in the cabins on the course and was happy to see that we had our own private putting green and sand trap. Sand trap was crap and not maintained but we didn't care. Oh and ice.. every day a fresh cooler of ice. No maid service is the only downfall. Food inside was great every time, little slow but no complaints at all. Now the courses. The President's side is absolutely outstanding. Top five course I've ever played and I've been all over to golf. Wide cushy fairways, nice dense rough and just an outstanding layout and design. Grounds crew, bravo. Seriously, take a friggen now. You have a collection of par 5s that rivals any course in this country without a doubt. The course definitely gets a lot of play but is immaculate. I cannot day enough good about this golf course. We really liked the General side as well, just much slower play. read more

I recently played President's Reserve for the first time in awhile. When I play there it is usually General's Retreat since it is a few dollars cheaper. However, I was really glad I decided to check out President's Reserve this time because it was in INCREDIBLE shape. There was one green on the whole course that was in semi-poor shape. Everything else from the greens, to the fairways, to even the bunkers god-forbid, were in great shape. All I wanted to do was just roll around in the fairway it was so plush. I would recommend anyone try this course out. Yes it might not be in the price range for lots of people, but for the price you are getting to play at a top notch course. It has a decent amount of water on the course, the rough is very thick, and many of the bunkers have a nice intimidating lip on them. So if you want a challenging course, then you should look here. Big thumbs up for the staff at the course. They were nice, helpful, and the groundskeepers must do a great job! read more

I've played a lot of high end courses around the country & HGC offers two comparable quality & challenging courses that are top notch for the price ($30 - 75 depending on time & day). Presidents is more links style. Generals is more traditional wooded course you see in TN. Both course conditions are top notch year round. Some weekdays can be tough getting your ideal tee time as they do a bunch of organization outings. Staff is great throughout their operations. If you eat lunch in the clubhouse go with the tri-tip sandwich or the pimento cheeseburger, serious yum! read more

Don't let the accolades from a decade ago fool you. The course is still in decent shape, but not what you would expect for $70. The biggest issue is pace of play. I just completed a 5.5 hour round (2:09 tee time, barely beat dark at 7:45). Usually this can be attributed to a slow group, but at Hermitage they have let greed take over and fill a tee sheet they know will lead to 5+ hour rounds. read more

This was hands down the most beautiful course that I have played. Even thought it is a PGA course, it wasn't overly challenging either. The fairways were huge, which is great for my erratic drives. The scenery is worth every penny. I saw goats, wild turkeys, and countless birds that I never see in Illinois. The topography just amazing. It was like watching National Geographic channel and that is important when your golf game is as bad as mine. The staff was very friendly and was incredibly accommodating to our group of 16. Played General's Retreat last weekend- course was super well maintained. Definitely a long course, even from the ladies tee's there were many 400 yd par 4's. Staff was super friendly and the carts had digital course maps with GPS so can know the distance to the greens and hazards. Really pretty, definitely would play again. read more
