Our son had a golf tournament at Hermann Park and I caddied for him so I got to check out the course as well. We found plenty of parking. I was worried because the zoo is always SLAMMED but we arrived around noon and there were so many spots available and when we left after the tournament there was even more open. The course itself was really nice. Few holes with water. Greens were in good condition. We noticed the greens sloped more than most courses, this was a bit more challenging for the youth players. The only staff we interacted with was the guy by the driving range in that "ball hut" (not sure what it's actually called.) He was SO NICE. There is a clubhouse with a snack bar but we didn't grab anything. Sodas were like $3.50, Gatorade was $4 just to give an idea of pricing. Can't wait to come back! read more

This is a good course with a convenient location and fair price. The greens can be a little rough at times but usually they're pretty good, just tending to play a little slow. Unfortunately on weekends 18 holes can take 5+ hours. The marshal doesn't do a good job keeping up the pace so sometimes one slow group can ruin it for everyone. I recommend starting earlier than 8am to reduce the chance of a painfully slow round. read more

I played on a weekday with a few friends. The parking can be right if crowded not so much on this day. We were charged $40 and additional $5 for your own cart. We shared a few buckets of balls between us while we warmed up on the driving range. For the most part the tee boxes were fine except one hole it had turned to dirt. The fairways were good but the greens were terrible. I couldn't tell when the last time they had been serviced. The course is a bit narrow but we didn't have any mishaps. The golf carts had usb connections to charge your opines are other items. I dint know if I would play again I would need to find out if the greens were brought up to par first. read more

This summer (2025) the course is in the best shape it's been in for years. Price is low but the course is a full-sized par 70, and gives the working class the chance to play the game enjoyed by the country club set. Parking is crowded because people also park to walk/jog the Hermann Park trail. Bring your own water (or whatever you choose to consume ) because there aren't many water coolers throughout the course. You also need to call the course to find out what the code is to get into the men and women's bathrooms near hole 13 (the code for the women's is 4656). The course ranger threatened us after accidentally shooting into the group ahead of us. We were very apologetic to them and they understood after we told them we were visiting and have never played there before. The ranger told us he keeps a gun on him at all times on the course because of instances like this and mentioned that he has seen someone get killed over hitting into someone on a golf course. Average course at best and the greens are horrible. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

Hermann Park is a municipal course located centrally which is great for Houstonians not looking to drive out to the burbs just to drive a few balls or play a quick 18. Being a city course, it's not tip top fancy but a few steps above Melrose or Sharpstown. The club house, although not country club level, has food and a small pro shop to browse. The driving range is smaller than Memorial Park's but still big enough to accommodate most days' demands. The course itself is moderately maintained, fairways were green with little blemishes and greens seemed fine enough. Fairways are stacked parallel to one another, so errant balls from another tee box plopping in front of you are totally common. Keep your head on a swivel since the reduced rates attract new golfers and those with rusty slices. There are a few holes with water hazards that can reach out and grab a ball or two, but as a whole, the course isn't terribly challenging if you have a straight drive. Also, most important heads up to uninitiated is that there are multiple tee boxes right next to busy streets and running trails. I've had a jogger scream during my backswing then laugh it off as an accident... Prices are reasonable and great for someone looking to start and get back into heavy play without breaking the bank. During summer, twilight rates are great for the heat and wallet. I've only played on weekdays here so can't comment on crowd or tee times during peak days, but I've seen the parking lot get packed on a Tuesday so it may be best to be careful and schedule ahead. Okay not bad but not great. We had a tee time @ 6:30 am and no problems there we had to wait until 6:40 because they were still mowing but no problem. The course was not in bad shape. The fairways were in pretty good shape and not hard to where you break your wrist if you are a steep swinger. The greens were furry and they had lost a few of them. No pins and the cups are raised. However, they are high enough to where you can see there is something in the green and that is the raised up. We finished in 3hrs which was great. Because it is a park you do have people walking all over the place. Most show some courtesy and not get in the firing line and stop walking when you are in the tee box. Overall not a bad track and glad I came back after several years of not playing. I stopped playing because the price to walk was the same price as it was to ride! Now they have a walking price and it was $22 during the week. read more

This is my favorite course to play in Houston but the staff that worked there 85% of them are disrespectful and rude as fuck. They're not all trained the same and they do not all have the same information management needs to train everybody to the same standards as other golf courses, they also need to have better staff with more positive attitudes. read more

I know nothing about golf. I have a hand me down set of clubs and decided to come out to the driving range. They have these rubber tees built in at the range so you don't have to use tees. This is probably a good thing for a rookie like myself. There's not a lot of room on the driving area so people have to wait. It's 9 dollars for a big bucket which lasted me about an hr. Honestly, I could see myself starting out here since it's cheap and I know nothing about what a good golf course is. Parking is a pain here. I noticed that a lot of other people here sucked just as bad as me so I didn't feel out of place, also it doesn't hurt that it's minutes away from me. read more

This is a convenient course in the middle of the city. The med center to be specific. It's not an amazing course. It could use some more love. But it's a solid one for the price. I'm a fan of the driving range. As you can see by my picture, the squirrels eat well here. More importantly, they have upgraded to the future of cheap driving ranges. If you want to golf their you pre-load a button, yes a button, with cash and you just lay when you want. They had a good deal where you buy $100 and they give you an extra $50 in the card. Anyone throwing money like that out, is a good deal. Definitely gives me something to when I have free time :) Again, not the most amazing place, but a solid/convenient choice to train/practice, or kill time on. read more

The course itself is decent for the price. $30 during the week, which is reasonable for a public course. They have a few ridiculous rules concerning carts and golfers that I don't even see when I play private courses. The driving range is below average. Mats are used instead of real grass and there are very limited options in terms of flags and targets, and nothing that marks distance at all. The hours are sporadic and there are impromptu maintenance times that are never communicated except via a piece of paper on the door. I've called before to ensure it is open and when I get there it is not. The practice putting green is absolutely atrocious. There are what looks like sand divots and substantial holes in the green. Only about 30-40% of the green is usable. The location is what makes this bearable, but my suggestion is to find another inner loop course. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon (3:30 tee time) with my fiance as a single rider. It was $46 for both of us and I hit a small bucket of balls beforehand ($6). I read the Yelp reviews of people dogging on this course but I didn't feel the same. I've definitely played on courses in better shape but this was a great location and a good challenge. There was a lot of water and I may or may not have lost a few balls. The course is a bit stacked with each hole so close to each other, plus it is surrounded by trails and streets so watch out for errant balls. Played at Hermann today as a single at 1:40. I had a group of 4 older guys in front of me all in their own carts. I caught up to these guys at hole 3. I waited an extra 7-10 minutes at every hole because these guys had no concept of golf etiquette. On hole 9 I had a single behind me catch up to me. After 3 more holes of being stuck behind these guys we decide to join up. At hole 15 we had another single catch up with us. By the time we were finished with 18 it had taken us 5 hours and 26 minutes to play, 3 singles had no choice but to join up and there were no other golfers in front of these 4 guys. This was my third time to play on this course and I was very disappointed in the way these golfers/ members/ hackers were. Price was decent but I'd rather of played only and taken a rain check for the last nine for terrible etiquette. Furthermore, from my knowledge the Marshall never said a word to them. Not to mention the course is in bad shape. It's nothing special and I've played on courses in way better shape. The greens have thicker than normal grass. The balls roll super slow. The majority of the holes are drivable if you carry anywhere from 270-320. Chipping green is terrible, putting green is terrible. The range is terrible. The course is in bad shape. Definitely not worth the $49.68 I paid for 18 holes and medium driving range balls. I'd rather go to Sharpstown down the road and pay $23 for a much better course. read more

Course is in a pretty setting, surrounded by the med center and walking trails. It's currently winter conditions so the fairways are somewhat hardpan. Narrow fairways lead to a lot of golfers on other holes hitting from your fairway. Lots of water hazards so course managagement is a must. If you hit a lot of grounders, bring a lot of extra balls. The greens are what I take exception to, they're in awful condition. Having played other munis recently, the greenskeeper could take some lessons. They have mixed vegetation and are very bumpy making putt speed inconsistent to say the least. Play was painfully slow even though a marshall was patrolling. A group a couple ahead of us was new and did not know how to play ready golf and nothing was done. It took 5 and a half hours to complete a round, that's unacceptable. A few holes have water again (post-pandemic) and there is a cart lady with food and drink. read more

I played once, and that'll be the only time I ever do. For a 10:36 tee time on Sunday, it was ~$49. At 10:36 on a Sunday, you can pay $10 more and go play at Wildcat or Timber Creek ... The layout is cool, being downtown is nice, and most of the fairways were decent. Some of the greens were alright, but a couple aren't even playable. Wait until you get to 17. Overall, it might be considered average. Because of the quality of golf that you can get elsewhere in Houston, this place shouldn't be charging nearly as much. If they want to continue charging what they do, the course needs to see some improvements. Unless you can get a decent rate during the week, I would highly recommend going somewhere else. read more

For those of you that like to walk the course, the layout is flat and the tee boxes are close together, except between holes 1 & 2. And that distance isn't bad. This is a great Muni. It's perfect for the beginner to intermediate golfer, flat, fun (easy!) to play and for the price in decent shape. A step above Sharpstown Golf Course in that it's a much prettier course, everyone that works here including the cart lady (which they do not have at Sharpstown) is nice and helpful plus they have very good food. This is a great course for total beginners and pretty much every other skill level besides pro and guys that think they are pro (but are not.) I say that because this course attracts a lot of complete beginners, like never swung a golf club before, and the aging 20/30/40 year old crowds who might have played as an undergrad or in junior high but nothing since then so they are quite rusty. As Tim J. mentions some people do play slow - not to annoy guys that think they are pro, it is just the nature of the business that not everyone is going to speed through holes with eagles their first time swinging a golf club. So the attitude of guys that think they are pro can be shitty at times on this course, but if they were really as good as they thought they were, they should probably be playing on a course that would challenge them more, so it is completely okay to sass them back if they make a stray comment about how slow your group is playing. There was only one serious logjam with four groups stacked up on one hole. But other than that it was never more than a handful of minutes for the prior group to finish the hole and start moving off so we wouldn't hit into anyone. The clubhouse area is a bit small, but it is a public course, there are no country club style amenities around. Which means it is manageable to keep coming back to - and they also don't have a history of excluding your people, like the country clubs do, so you don't need to think too hard about what your grandfather would say if he was still alive and he found out you were playing there. The driving range is a bit small so you might need to wait. There is also a small chipping area. The entire course was well maintained. The green was fine and so were the fairways. Just bring extra balls. The water hazards swallow balls, especially if you have been drinking heavily the last few holes. The innuendo is too easy on this one so I will just let it go. Fun course. It's a fairly easier golf course, very wide open... great for high handicappers like myself. For a public golf course, its pretty well maintained and lush. Close proximity to the Medical Center and Downtown. Register online and you get plenty of deals on green fees. They even e-mailed me a free round of golf to redeem around my birthday. NICE! The anti -Memorial golf course. It's everything opposite of Memorial golf course. Very short, and not all that fun when the conditions are bad. Gold: 6015 Blue: 5434 White: 4777 Red: 4563 The location is good, in an area easy to get to. Next to the zoo in a pretty good warehouse/condo type of a neighborhood. Surrounded by walking trails and tons of jogging exercising people. But the course it's self is pretty rough. Greens are terrible, muddy, people play slow, range balls are smoothed by years of abuse. Food: Suck, suckage, crap. Save your $$, this is the Captain D's of golf, looks like a golf course, but sure don't feel like one. read more

Nice muni inside the loop. The course is very short. But, tight enough and with enough water and sand to keep you paying attention. The conditions were pretty good for what it is. Fairways could use some aeration and water. Some bare, hard pan lies out there. They do have a driving range and a decent putting green to warm up on. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I only came here to use their driving range. I thought they would of had better clubs to lend people. I was in town working but I wanted to be able to do something that weekend, and at least I got to hit some golf balls. They need to work on their rubber T's, and mats. They are very very used. Decent course but slightly overpriced in my opinion. They need to offer a discount rate for Rice/ UH students. They also need to offer a 9 hole rate as I am sure there are plenty of golfers who work in the med center area and would love to catch a quick 9 after work. The greens can range from terrible to terrific depending on the season/weather. You need to be careful not to hit joggers and cars on some holes!! Ive been playing all my life and almost took out 2 cars in my last round! They did put alot of effort into the driving range this summer! New balls, new mats, lights, and FANS to keep you cool. Great idea! The fans really work. Only thing i wish was that they sold range balls later 8:30 pm is early! I know there are some ranges that let you hit until midnight. read more

I was visiting Houston from San Francisco the last week of September 2013. I originally golfed here because it was so close to the hotel I was staying at and thought it would be a good place to get in a practice round before I ventured out to other courses. I ended up golfing here 3 times. The course is a short par 70, but challenging. It's a good course to work on your accuracy because it can be a little tight and water comes into play at times. Beware of joggers and cars along some of the fairways, the course is in a park. Too bad I played when they just sanded the greens, but the course was in good shape. The cost was $35 with a cart - I would have walked, but the Texas heat and humidity would have taken big toll on me. I would golf here again and recommend it to others. read more

A very nice course and a top notch value for the cost. This is a tight course that weaves through Hermann Park. You need to keep your ball under control because there are pedestrians and cars on both sides of the fairway on many of the holes. The greens are nice but slow. The staff is excellent and the facilities are clean and well taken care of. Give this course a chance. read more

Don't trust the online tee time prices. Booked a time at 1:09pm for $36.50 per player and ended up being $45 at the course. Guy at pro shop said he has nothing to do with the online. Driving range is mats only laid on uneven concrete, hole 9 doesn't end at the clubhouse, more expensive than other courses of similar quality. Only redeeming quality is that it's close to downtown and easier to get on and slower that Memorial. read more

Herman park golf course is a city course but managed by a private company. The course is in very good condition. Many new trees have been planted to replace the ones lost over the years to storms and droughts. The course is shorter than most and relatively compact. Parts of the course were redesigned several years ago and the clubhouse was relocated from near the Houston zoo entrance to the corner of Almeda and MacGregor. The layout of the holes is good with enough dog legs, bunkers, water, and other features to make it a real test of shotmaking. Distance off the tee is not much of an advantage. I only use the driver on maybe five holes. One awkward result of the redesign is that hole #9 does not end up at the clubhouse. Green fees are a bit high on weekends for a city course, but it is easy to walk, so you can save some cash by not riding in a cart. Since the course is located adjacent to the Houston medical center, the traffic and sirens make for a noisy environment. I have yet to figure out the tee time reservation system. Pace of play is rather slow. There is a driving range with artificial turf mats. read more
