I have probably been a client at Northern Hills Dental for the past 7 years. I really have not a…read morebad thing to say about them and their service during most of the 7 years, except one time when one of the hygienists was quite 'rough' in the cleaning process that resulted in some pain during and after the appointment. Recently, however, I have noticed that they have been quite tardy in their appointment schedules. For the second time in recent memory, I have waited in excess of 35 minutes for my appointment (the first occurrence was much longer than 35 minutes), not including the time I waited before my scheduled appointment time (I always try to arrive early for my appointments). This defeated the purpose of me getting off work a half hour early so that I can get all dental work done before my following dinner commitment. I am not sure how often this happens at Northern Hills Dental but it has happened to me twice. If I were repeatedly late 30 minutes for my appointments, I am sure they would have told me to reschedule. I understand that there are sometimes circumstances that could have extended the appointment before me but that could have been avoided by properly estimating the amount of time it takes for each appointment. For example, extra time should be set aside for children dental appointment. I know that is the case with my toddler... it always takes longer than scheduled. I understand that the delay for them to see me was because they were in the middle of a procedure for a child that took longer than they had allowed for. However, this is the type of repeated experience that causes client to go elsewhere regardless of the reason.

When I first got there the receptionist 'Julie' didn't acknowledge my presents because she busy taking a personal call. Lucky me I got to overhear about what she'll be doing Friday night (it didn't impress me). FINALLY she hung up 'sighed' then said : "Can I help you?" With a snarky undertone strike #1. I was handed laminated forms to fill out, when done I returned to the desk to hand them in, what I assume is a regular client barged in started up a conversation and handed over forms... meanwhile I was ignored and served after the fact. Strike #2. When 'Julie was ready to help me, she thought I was my Mom and retyped my info into her account.... duh we have different first names...I was burdened by having to answer my account info and re-enter my Mom's account aswell. When I got hulled back to take x-rays of my teeth, The girl who was helping me looked no older than 20, she never once introduced herself she was very precocious throwing medical knowledge without the Dentist diagnosis... honey, Your not the PROFESSIONAL (keep you opinions to yourself). Than she awkwardly tried to relate with me on a personal level but instead blabbed narcissistic nonsense for 15 minutes, never giving me an edge word. Before I knew it she pulled out a camera to take photos of my mouth ambushing my privacy bubble with a camera to my face and said: "smile". Strike #3. I waited a half hour to see the dentist (Gough) who properly introduced himself and explained that he had an emergency patient... Replying with: "sorry for the hold up". - "Okay he's off the hook". However, what irritated me most is waiting and Nobody explained to me what was going on ahead before hand, and I was ALONE sitting in a chair.... starring at a wall. They could of at least offered me water or the TV to watch something... but from what I've experience so far- Richmond Dental Clinic doesn't offer 5 star service or care about their patients! During my cleaning with the Dental Hygienist she explained that she was just a TEMP.... great- NOT! I was then forced to hear about "Day of Our Lives" all because She asked if I watched Daytime TV... At that moment I should have lied and responded with a firm 'no'... I didn't want to be rude and put the headphones on while she was talking...So I endured drilling and scrapping (something I'd hoped to be distracted with while watching TV)... I was completely uncomfortable with clenched fist and curled toes..... when 1 hour went by she abruptly stopped and said: "I have another booked appointment- you will have to come back another day and schedule a teeth cleaning...." OMFG!!!!! So NOW I have to pay for ANOTHER appointment because you won't finish my teeth? She than changed her tone and flat out changed the story to: "well most people get recommend to comeback again for another appointment, because If I polish your teeth NOW it won't look okay... it's very common." I felt scammed and cheated, I've taken dental classes through my Veterinary training.... none of this is logical or truthful! This is NOT FAIR!!!! The previous experience I had with a dentist: The lady had 1 eye and only completed my top teeth... Why does this happen to me?... I'd had hoped I would get a proper cleaning in 1 sitting and turn a leaf on my negative opinion towards going to the dentist! I wish it ended there... but theirs more.... The receptionist tried to charge my mothers medical plan instead of mine, of coarse it was rejected... but it irked me BECAUSE I HANDED her my insurance card personally... instead she never glanced at it and assumed I was on the same plan as my mother....I doubt I will return.

I've been going to Nosehill Dental for a couple years now and Dr. Sajel Patel has been my dentist…read more I can't say enough about how great she and her staff are! Let's face it. No one wants to visit the dentist. When Dr. Patel is looking after me I feel completely comfortable. I literally feel nothing when she uses the needle to freeze my mouth. During the entire time my comfort is what's most important. "You're going to feel a pinch." "You're going to feel vibration." "Are you doing OK? Just raise your hand if you want me to stop." "Now I'm going to do this." And so on. With past dentists I would have a sore jaw and gums for days after. Not with Dr. Patel! I no longer cringe at the thought of visiting the dentist! The dental hygienists and front desk staff are just the icing on the cake. Fun folks but still very professional!

Nothing illegal with "dental price gouging", nor is charging $10 for a .50 cent bottle of water in Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Art Piercy Owner ---------------------------- He flat out refuses to give reasonable rates, graduated in the 70's and feels his "experience" allows him to "price gouge." Keep in mind computers didn't even exist back then. Previous Employee Tells us How it Works --------------------------------------------------------- Art bills each "dentist" a set fee for each procedure they do. Ex: Root Canal, (3 roots/filling) Art gets $1148 for everyone sold and the dentist gets % of what's left over. They charge $1500 PLUS $300 for the filling. Each "dentist" is billed out at full rate, No matter the what country or year graduated. Your Dentist will try to max your Insurance --------------------------------------------------------- Look for a dentist with reasonable rate. Retail price for root canals in Edmonton around $500 and Calgary around $1000. One of art's "special root canals" will cost you $2000 and will max out most insurance plans. When…read moreasked about a filling that I had done, whether the tooth was connecting properly with its mate, I replied that it was okay, but Dr. Tan was not satisfied with that. He said we needed perfection. The last time I had my teeth cleaned, I was scheduled for 45 minutes, but it only took 30 min. and the cost was adjusted accordingly. Today, I was expecting that a crown would have to be removed in order to fill a cavity beneath it. The cavity was able to be filled without damage to the crown. Dr. Hwang explained what he was doing each step of the way. I felt comfortable during the procedure and would definitely recommend Dentists at Beddington Heights to others.
