Millpond Gatherings - Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée

Millpond Gatherings

We just got back from dinner at Millpond Steakhouse. We were celebrating 3 June birthdays. Things…read morestarted out great! The restaurant has great ambience- think Yellowstone vibes inside. Warm and welcoming. We were all happy with our appetizers and drinks. I had a Mediterranean feta dip. My husband had an orange salad, my sister in law the beet salad and my brother in law had the burrata salad. We all loved what we had. Cocktails were great, The guys had old fashioneds. I tried my husbands and it was nice and smooth with hints of honey. My sister in law and I had white raspberry vodka martinis. Again smooth and refreshing. At this point, we all would've given the place a solid five. That is until the steaks came. Three of us had the dry aged ribeyes we ordered them medium rare. They were served well done. Not a hint of red or pink! The waitress asked us to cut into them to see if they were to our liking. We all said they were overcooked. Not the waitresses fault. She was great. We asked what they did with overdone ones sent back and she said they 86'd them. We couldn't bare throwing all that food out so we ate them. The char on the outside was good but we feel that's what caused them to be overdone. The flavor was ok but at $68 a plate you expect your steak to be served the way you requested it. We were very disappointed and no compensation was offered. By the way, the guy at the table behind us sent his back because it was overdone as well. My husband had the surf and turf special filet with shrimp over mashed potatoes. He was happy with his meal. It's a beautiful place and we were happy with everything except the steak. But that's a big except when that is the reason we went there. If you go and want medium rare ask for rare and you might get lucky. Otherwise stick to the tavern down below the steakhouse.

We are regulars here. Came this evening on a Tuesday. We were seated near a family with a screaming…read moretoddler and boisterous family. The Waiter's comments were indecipherable with all the noise. I ordered a Margarita rocks/no salt & a Black & Blue Burger requested pink. What I received was the Margarita pictured with a slice of very old dried brownish lime and my very well done burger. Not their best night!

Lots and lots of tables all over the property, and you are welcome to bring your own food, get a table and enjoy the view and the setting for as long as you want. On Sunday there was also live music. Probably due to the rain, there were plenty of tables available inside. Two of our friends arrived before us and snagged a spot near the beautiful fireplace. They started to prep the snacks. My friend and I arrived a few minutes later. I quickly grabbed my rosé slushy, so that I could catch up. My first sip was a little strong, but I definitely got used to it as I kept drinking. The others shared bottles of red. I think that everyone liked what they had, because there were many returns to the bar for refills. The area can accommodate parties of all sizes. While there, we saw two large birthday parties, one was inside and the other outside. There were still plenty of tables and wide open spaces on the deck and in other rooms inside. The ladies at the bar and the other staff that were walking around were extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. I would definitely consider coming back and even hosting a party here.

In 1864, The Lyman Homestead house (the original) moved from the homestead location to across what is now the apple barrel David Lyman 2nd being a prominent Lyman heir to the property, was many things, including an abolitionist who was part of the Freedom trail, aiding run away slaves. Part of the Underground Railroad, the Lyman family would house those seeking refuge. David Lyman the 2nd is also responsible for the completion of the Airline trail (due to their farm productions/supply/demand), an innovative and state of the line washing machine (for that time) and the production of the train tracks that cross the Connecticut River in Middletown. In 1917, a massive frost killed all the peach trees, but they converted to apple trees, which is what took off the Lyman's famous apple picking today! They also had cattle, but unfortunately the barn burned down and was replaced with the golf courses that are here today

Peaceful, quiet surroundings to fully immerse into complete relaxation. I believe this was Lyman's first event of this kind. To celebrate the Lunar New Year 2023, Lyman's had a wonderful display of lanterns of all kinds to view on a half mile stroll on its grounds. Fabulous. I believe they have this every year. Remarkable artistry and really unique and beautiful. Check out their website for a variety of events (outside of pick your own).

Rosabianca Vineyards - Bianco Rosato

Rosabianca Vineyards

Rosabianca Vineyards is a craft vineyard and winery that opened in Northford, Connecticut in 2015…read more It was founded by Charlie Rosabianca. The roots of the vineyard go back several decades. Charlie's father Andrea Rosabianca immigrated to Connecticut from Amalfi, Italy in the 1950s. He had dreams and aspirations to become a farmer, but with a family to support he was unable to achieve that dream. He instead became a carpenter, but he always had the most beautiful gardens. Beginning in the early 1970s, Charlie took up the hobby of making homemade wine. In 2010, he decided to retire from his job and pursue his dream of opening a winery. In 2012, he and his family purchased a ten acre property in Northford with the hopes of turning it into a vineyard. They planted their first acre of Cayuga grapes in 2014 and by the following year the tasting room had opened to the public. Charlie dedicated the winery to his father (who had passed away in 1997), and all the wines are given Italian names as a tribute to him. In addition to producing wines with estate-grown grapes, Rosabianca also sources grapes from California. Several members of Charlie's family are also involved with the business, including his cousin Maria Calabrese, his daughters, and multiple grandchildren. My wife and I have visited Rosabianca Vineyards multiple times since they opened. They have an excellent repertoire of wines and some even pop up seasonally (I have a soft spot for their Holiday Rosé). Although the winery doesn't distribute, it's no big deal for us because they are just a short drive from our house. The property is beautiful with a nice outdoor patio area, gardens, and beautiful views of the vineyards. My family and I recently stopped by the winery for a visit; it was our first one since the pandemic. The winery recently renovated and made additions to their tasting room. We still opted to sit outside on the patio. We chose this particular day to come because we knew that they had scheduled a pizza truck to come. Sipping some local wine on the patio paired with delicious wood-fired pizza is always a good time! My wife and I ordered and shared a bottle of the winery's "Bianco Rosato": a semi-sweet blend of Gamay and Cayuga grapes that has aromas of watermelon and undertones of cherry, raspberry, and honey. We all had an excellent experience and we plan to return to Rosabianca again and again!
