They have different coaches all well trained and highly experienced in the baseball fields. You can also join a club and take classes to better your self. The place itself is very spacious it has a section for exersice lift weights as well do yoga and many more. They also have a store up stairs with custom made bats and gloves and other accessories that will come in handy as a baseball player. They also have a section with water, Powerade and Gatorade plus other sweet snacks that will get you going. If you need to find a trainer for your self, a coach, or want to join a baseball team you should come here they train all ages. It used to be a…read morereally crappy field (read: torn up grass, weeds, divots, shoddy infield, pretty much dilapidated and forgotten-- conditions not conducive to a softball or baseball game) up until a couple years ago when it was totally renovated.* Now, it's totally, shall I, say beautiful? Well, if you like turf, it's quite nice. So, obviously it's a no cleats field. There is a really nice track that surrounds the one field as well. There are stands for observers, bathrooms (which is a HUGE plus for athletes. Trust me...when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Also, the bathrooms are clean, AND they have soap and hand towels! I was amazed.**), and locker rooms, but those aren't open to the general public and are solely for students who go to MB high school. The field is impeccably maintained too. I saw one groundskeeper (no, it wasn't Willy) who actually raked the infield when we were finished with our game last night. I guess my only gripe is it'd be great if the infield was covered to protect it from rain. It was slightly muddy at home plate last night. Oh, and since it's almost directly under the Manhattan Bridge, it can get a little noisy, so you might have trouble hearing your infield. So, if you belong to a NYC softball league and are scheduled to play here, you're lucky, because it's one of the nicer turf fields in the city. *This could also be called "Verizon Field" if you want to be all corporate about it. I think they gave the high school money for remodeling. **Maybe if I knew you better I'd tell you of the bathroom horror stories at most softball fields...flies, no doors, port-o-potties, or no bathroom at all, which doesn't help if say, you've drunk too much Gatorade and can't stand and pee like a guy. Oh, I've said too much.

My biggest complaint is that all the toppings were piled on top, leaving the bottom half as plain chips. Layer the toppings throughout, and they'd be so much better. Will I still say Yankee Stadium has the better food? Absolutely. But Citi Field definitely delivers on the game-day experience, and I'd happily come back for another Subway Series.

There are also basketball courts, tennis courts and playgrounds. They recently reopened the Pavilion which is planned to have some vendors soon. Fairly short walk via trail path to City Island which has lots of shops and restaurants. Lots of adjacent walking paths throughout Pelham Bay Park as well. We went earlier on a weekday and it was very empty...through there was still some law enforcement patrolling the area...I suspect there are more present on busier days.

It was a crowded day, and the traffic entering and leaving the Gardens was intense. For anyone who enjoys natural beauty and has a whole day to relax and explore these grounds, you will absolutely love it. The fact that this garden is free is also a great gift to the community. One drawback is that you can't bring your fur babies.

Now as an almost middle aged adult in an attempt to weather through almost triple digit weather, Astoria Pool hasn't lost its charm. As good as the trip was, it isn't perfect. Since it was a hot day there was a rather long queue that I had to wait through, which fortunately wasn't as long as I thought it would be. There are a couple of rules and regulations which do make enough sense to follow. No electronics in the pool area, you must have a lock for your locker and shower before and after being in the pool, a towel is recommended. The one drawback would be the locker rooms. I dunno how the women's one looks like since I'm a man but the men's locker leaves a lot to be desired. I know it's a public use facility but it could be more taken care of so it would look less like a Gulag from Call of Duty: Warzone, plus the lockers are pretty small, I was amazed to fit all of my stuff in there. Other than that, it's a nice way to kill some time on a hot day. Be mindful of their schedule though because an hour break is utilized from 3 to 4 PM.

The locker room is huge and has plenty of lockers, showers and dressing stalls to change into. The pool is Olympic size and gargantuan with an amazing view of the bridge. The best part is the way it's divided. There's a section with lanes for swimmers who want to do laps. A tanning section, away from the pool where you can lay out towels and tan or read a book. Areas designated for food consumption as they do have a food stand that sells burgers, hot dogs etc. all at reasonable prices from $6-$14. A playground right next door with sprinklers and jungle gym. And if you don't want to get into the water but enjoy the view there's a terrace outside of the pool that owns you to see over the pool and bridge.

After a quick bag search, I went upstairs to the women's locker room which was cleaner than expected. Staff were nice in reminding us to lock up our stuff. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

The pool is beautiful and if you decide to go I advise you to check the hours first. The last time I was there it was closed. They have separate Men's and Women's dressing rooms. The pool is well maintained. Lines get long especially when the children are out of school. Funny thing is my landlord just gave me a complimentary membership to the building Health Club when I renewed my lease. Starting November 1st I have access to the indoor pool in my apartment building. I guess you won't be seeing me at John Jay Pool.
