Jake saved us. Totally and completely. When we bought our house, the seller's painted over some antique doors, windows, and trim, before we took possession. Pretty ridiculous, and it created a ton of stress and headaches for us. After talking to well over a dozen contractors, handymen, painters, cabinetmakers, window/door guys who had no interest in the project, Jake said he could do it, and make it all look great. On top of that, his estimate was very reasonable. I was skeptical, it just seemed like too big of a job. When Jake first showed up to start working, he'd ordered doors that weren't the right size, and didn't match the pattern of the house. When I pointed it out, Jake didn't argue with me. He said, "You're right, that's on me." Mistakes happen, no big deal. He returned the doors and ordered new ones, and came back a couple weeks later to start the project. The new doors were more expensive, and he ate some of that cost for the inconvenience, which seemed very reasonable of him. Jake and one helper spent about 4 days doing the work, and while I was still skeptical the whole way through, but by the time he left, the result was great. I'm not going to say "perfect," because I think homeowners always see little things others might not. And it'll never be back to the antique wood it should've been. But I could have easily paid 3x as much to a huge contracting company, and I don't think I'd have any better result. What impressed me most is that this isn't a new house. There are some quirks; walls and floors aren't straight, etc., and Jake had to figure out how to get new windows, doors, and trim, to fit into old house. He did a great job. As for people complaining about timeliness or phone calls: Sure, there were a couple of scheduling issues. If you think you can find a handyman or contractor who DOESN'T have scheduling issues, good luck... That's just how this business seems to work. read more
