Although there are a plethera of Henri Willig locations throughout Amsterdam, each storefront is a different size but the cheese offerings are identical.
We went into a few to browse and found the many cheese samples delightfully fragrant but wanted to learn more about its origins and the manufacturing of the products.
We took a Food and Culture Tour today to get a thirty minute glimpse of the inner workings of Henri Willig. This location was in the Flower Market district and went to the upstairs Cheese Museum where a video was playing explaining the history of Henri Willig's cheese empire and how it started in Amsterdam from the goats, sheep and cows on the farms in Holland.
Below the Cheese Museum was the storefront with two ladies dressed in old Holland farmhouse attire with a display of ten different cheeses. They gave an indepth explanation of each cheese and dipping sauce with a question & answer portion. My favorite cheese was the Herb and Garlic. Some people on the tour made cheese purchases. FYI, the cheeses are stamped for customs to declare, except for some reason an issue in England.
Meats, dipping sauces and wines are also offered in the store. Stongly recommend to anyone looking for cheese in Amsterdam to take a peek at this company. read more
