Henna Harmony (Deepti) did a fantastic job with the henna for my wedding. She is very sweet and talented! Deepti arrived EARLY and was extremely patient as I was trying to find a design that my mother would like (who was not at home at the time). She brings her own henna that she makes at home. We chose the designs for arms (3/4 length) and feet on the fly and she interpreted the makeshift suggestions beautifully. Her work was impeccable. Everyone complimented the intricate, beautifully done designs. She worked quickly but accurately. She was also a complete joy to chat with. I think her work speaks for itself but when you have someone sitting with you for hours, it helps if they are positive and a great conversationalist. We had a gathering of 5 women and she was able to paint a gorgeous, intricate henna on a baby bump, and 1 henna each on 4 woman attending. Deepti was very professional. She came to our house, even though we were running late, she was very flexible and accommodating. She was able to recreate designs we found on the internet with ease. I hired Deepti from Henna Harmony to do mehndi henna for the girl guest at a tree trimming party. I was very fortunate to get her as it was a the first Saturday in December and I doubt mine was the only holiday party going. I had been hunting hard to find someone who was good at this art form which is a very fun activity often had at Indian weddings etc. Despite the growing Indian population in DC I found it difficult to get a solid recommendation so I got on the internet and much to my surprise found Deepti's place. Her reviews were excellent and it mentioned she would travel so I shot off an email on the Tuesday before the event and to my surprise she was available. She requires a 25 deposit (via paypal) to reserve a slot. This actually made me comfortable as well as she was approaching the commitment with seriousness. On the night it was pouring rain and she appeared 15 minutes earlier with her wee table and equipment. She set up the library upstairs which is warm and has good light (two necessities). She uses the real henna of course, not the blacK henna with the nasty chemicals. She has a large binder full of designs but can mix and match or execute your design. All of my guest, even the most sKittish initially, thoroughly enjoyed the process, choosing the pattern, experiencing being a canvas for art, chatting to Deepti and each other as well as the product. As an added flourish over the past, which falls off eventually to reveal the lovely red stain which lasts from 10 days to 2 weeKs she applies glitter which maKes a lovely if temporal product. I chose a Mandela stamp on one hand with blue glitter and some twisting fans on the other. One friend with a love of peacocKs chose a design around that. Another, with a very conservative job, chose a very small flower for her index finger and a tiny tendril on the bacK of her hand. After the two hours. she efficiently pacKed up and left us all happy, but not before snapping photos of our lovely hands. We all loved her and would use her again. She is very well priced as well. She charges 80 dollars an hour with two hour minimum for visits (plus a travel fee after 35 miles and a fee for after 9 pm). In the days since the event my appreciation has only grown as I get complements all over from people who are new to henna and those who have seen quite a few results and laud Deepti's as inceredibly clean and lovely. We hired Deepti for bridal henna and a small mehndi party. From the beginning of my wedding search, I loved her designs and stain quality. Deepti has a wonderful personality, which made it very easy to sit across from her for a few hours while she worked her magic :) She creates lovely designs very quickly and applied mehndi to about 30-40 guests very fast. She is very "low maintenance" in that she brings all the necessary supplies and is happy to explain the process and aftercare for people both familiar and unfamiliar with henna/mehndi. We appreciated that she checked in with us every so often throughout the party to see if more guests were expected, and she was very flexible with time, design requests, and even provided henna cones to some aunties who wanted to use it later. She was also very accommodating during planning and provided a free sample so I could see how the stain turned out two days later. As far as design process, I brought some general ideas and we talked about the kinds of patterns and styles that I liked and let Deepti take it from there - the result was a beautiful, flowing, cohesive pattern.
