My family and I attended the opening performance of the historic play, Ramona yesterday afternoon…read more They bragged a great deal about a new director they have employed for this season, but we believe he didn't do the show or the tradition any favors. Rather than the historically accurate and moving drama of the past, the new director seems to have changed the act into one heavily permeated with frivolity and foolishness. There was a great deal of what he called native dancing that was nothing more than many kids simply kicking their feet in the air. And the girl they have playing Ramona this season does not sing well yet they had her struggling to carry a tune more than once. The show was lightly attended, and I doubt that it will do much better for the few performances remaining.

Good thing I wasn't behind someone who stood up. I couldn't hear words sung by one of the female performers because the background music was louder than her voice. Someone once said "the music should compliment the singer". I was amazed that this theater seats so many people. The seats were somewhat comfortable. For those who left at 9:30 p.m. before the second session-you missed a personal performance by E.J. and son, a message from E.J.'s brother to their father who passed away a year ago. It became personal and the songs were better for me.

I'M BACK TO SEE "MOUSETRAP"! Ramona Hillside Players is a nice community theater nestled to the…read moreside of the Ramona Bowl, it's got plenty of parking and nice outdoor views. The box office experience was a bit rocky as the ticket clerk messed up one of our tickets and one of the members in our party had to move to the back. It was a bit weird because there was an empty seat next to us. The clerk gave us seats together when we originally purchased them at the door. The ushers/attendants seemed a little baked and stressed, not sure if they're treated the best. The primary clientele at this theater is senior citizens, therefore their word is law. If they find it cold, the staff turn the heater up to eleven. The theater felt like an oven, I was sweating and sweating! If RHP wants to attract more viewers they need to keep an eye on their HVAC. Overall, I really liked the show. I like murder mysteries and the cast was likable. However, the show got a bit slow at times as the cast sat for most of the runtime (this was an odd directing decision). I would also suggest they switch up their show lineup. Again, RHP caters too much to older people, so they tend to skew Baby Boomer when picking shows and music. We need more musicals and diverse stories on this stage!

The gallery is located 16 miles east of Interstate 15 on the 79. Not hidden, but a mini adventure drive to get there. Once you are close, you will see silhouettes of dinosaurs and other creatures along the hillside and you are there. Enter a world of welded art creations of all sorts. I wasn't sure about parking when I arrived, but I accidentally drove into the gate. Luckily I turned around and noticed that parking was just all the gravel in front (unmarked). Not sure what to expect, there were two gentlemen under a shaded tent welding together more metal art. One of them was Mr. Breceda. Super friendly guy, and welcoming. The land is decorated with literally hundreds of art structures from hand size to dinosaur size. They range from anything from historical figures on horses to transformers. The entry fee is only $10 and ricardo even gives you a gift. This place is so cool and worth the visit.

It was an elegant room adorned with festive decor, which had 3 round tables, each table seating 10. The food was absolutely delicious and served buffet style. The meal included a free glass of wine. Our choice of wine was the White Cabernet Sauvignon. We're not wine connoisseurs but we liked the taste. We aren't sophisticated wine drinkers at all. There were fun raffles, with a variety of prizes. Hubby won a bottle of Prosecco, we were happy about that! Our special guest was Rosie Wilson, the matriarch of the Wilson family. She was a very sweet & gracious lady. TVWS presented her with a vase with a bouquet of flowers. Mick Wilson came in and accepted a beautiful plaque that TVWS presented to him and his family. He was a very engaging speaker and TVWS is looking forward to plan future events either him. We thoroughly enjoyed this luncheon and all the very friendly members. I thank Sandy Neal, current president, for convincing me to join. My husband and I plan to renew our membership for 2024. Hopefully, when I retire next year we can become more involved and become familiar with the great wineries surrounding us!
