We got this Helton Excavation to do the excavation for our pool. Day one they arrive at 8:00 a.m., take down the wall to get equipment in, unload equipment, get started digging about 11:00a.m. After digging for an hour the guy running the digging equipment (backhoe?) calls his supervisor. My husband needs to talk to the supervisor, Jason Helton. Jason tells my husband that we have rocks in our dig. (no kidding) smaller rocks, no big deal. Was the bid based on top soil?? The large rocks are still here. This is going to cost us $1,200 more than quoted cause they cannot get rid of this dirt and have to pay to take it to the dump. Jason feels he can negotiate cash of $900 and will let us know. No call. They continue digging and dumping 8 dump truck loads. (one small truck and one larger one) They shut down for the day at 3:20 p.m. Next day they arrive at 7:45 and start digging and hauling to dump. 8 loads later is 1:15 p.m. and they are done. Jason calls us with another number of $1,100 extra dollars we owe. I asked for the reason. How much did is cost to dump it? Where/what dump did you go to? How far away is this dump? Jason had no answers. Just use of his equipment, mileage, etc.The next day he revises his number and says we now owe $750.00. Statement says Export of abnormal rock/soil conditions. (not so, we have dozens of pictures and videos of this dirt), extra fuel for long haul, labor and equipment costs, job took 7 extra hours due to this soil.....so...they knew that the pool was 18x32 feet, 6 feet deep, 80 perimeter I think. They actually dug the first day from 11:00a.m. until 3:20, 4 hours and 20 minutes. Did they expect to be done on that size of pool? The second day they dug from 8:00am to 1:15p.m. 5 hours and 15 minutes. So approx 10 hours of actual digging time and he says 7 hours extra? Really? Fuel, mileage and labor were not included in the bid? Where did they expect to dump it? Nextdoor? We live in Verrado! Extra fuel for "long haul"? It was hauled exactly 4.2 miles from our house. Is that a long haul???? Oh they said they hauled it 9 miles south but they actually hauled it 4 miles north.....So, it was $1,200, then $900 cash, then $1,100, then $750....Yeah right. Sounds like a real scam going on here. They get into the project then say oops! problem, we need more money to continue. Isn't that the oldest trick in the book???Oh yeah I forgot to ask, how much did the folks on Pasandena Avenue charge you to dump it in the wash up behind their house???How many other folks have you done this to????? The best part is we contacted the Arizona Department of Licensed contractors and asked for their advice..they basically said NO! This should not happen! This contractor knows exactly what he is doing both in digging and in adding charges! read more
