I had Jim remove my Bermuda grass, old curbing, some old invasive plants as well as bringing in clean dirt to create some large, natural looking mounds in my front yard. He kept in place my flagstone walkway and several existing plants. I'm converting my front yard to xeriscape. Jim listened to what I had planned for the space and catered the grading and removal based on my expectations and some. He took into consideration that I would eventually put down decomposed granite so removed soil at edges to ensure the gravel stayed in my yard. He knew exactly how much to remove His use of his machinery is done with surgical precision so he's able to remove what needs to be removed without touching anything adjacent to the work area that needs to remain. He treated my mature Afghan pine with care and preserved my existing drip/bubbler line I wanted to retain. I am so pleased with the results which exceeded my expectations. I will use Blue Horizon Excavating for all my future projects. Jim is just the best. He is responsive and provides recommendations to make your project a success. It also helps that he is very easy to talk to. I know very little about converting a lawn to xeriscape, I'm a complete novice. Jim did a great job for my wife and me last year when we needed an HOA approved third car driveway removed because the HOA changed their mind two years after they originally approved (that's the new Tatum Highlands for you ). But then Jim dropped off the map for the follow-on work he quoted for my backyard grading and rock distribution. I hope he's okay...maybe he got swamped with work and had a hard time prioritizing. Jim just finished a large upgrade to our landscaping at our Scottsdale home. 74 tons of rock, removal of several bushes and trees. He did an excellent job and had to come back 3 times with his bobcat since the rock company was days late with deliveries over 3 days that were supposed to be all on one day. I hired Blue Horizon to do a demolition of my swimming pool (break up the pool deck, collapse the upper walls, fill in with earth, and compact/level it). Jim (who's both the owner and performs the work himself) did a very fine job, and at a competitive price. From the time he first came out for the estimate, he obviously knew what he was doing and talking about (been doing it since the 1990's), was very personable and easy to work with, and also proved to be a great communicator. The work was done as planned, according to schedule, with care and attention to detail, and good results. But most of all, he went the extra mile when it came to communicating clearly during the entire process, i.e. the agenda for each day (what to expect and when), any items I needed to be involved in or needed my input on, and then cleaning up thoroughly afterward. (He even got the permit for a nominal fee and assisted when the city inspector didn't show up as expected afterward for final inspection.) We need to grade, remove rock and level out the west area of our home for a project. Found blue horizon on yelp and Jim responded in a very timely manner. He gave us a fair quote. We also had 2 other quotes we received. He wasn't the cheapest but he also wasn't the most expensive. We knew he was reliable through his communication unlike another company we had used that was inconsistent. Jim got a contract out to us which listed in detail all the work we wanted completed. He showed up on time and completed the job in one day. At the end of the job, we found him cleaning (sweeping) the dirt mess he had created while excavating. Normally, construction workers leave this task for the homeowners to do so we appreciated the extra work. For the reasons above, we highly recommend his company.
