I was so excited to visit during their highly touted "open viewing" day because I just retired and…read morehave been looking for a small dog now that I will be home all day. Unfortunately, "open viewing" meant looking at these poor animals inside their small cages, which did not even have water, a blanket, or a toy for comfort. Every single dog was stressed and laying on a hard metal floor. Scared dogs were next to ones who barked nonstop. I asked the worker if but they ever got out of those small cages, and she said it depended on how many volunteers they had. It was heartbreaking to see the animals like that without even a towel to lay on or bowl of water. Two siblings had arrived together but were separated and kept on opposite sides of the room so they couldn't even see each other! There is no excuse for that. The worker could not answer even basic questions about ANYA of the dogs, and would not let me meet the dog I was interested in or even let her sniff my fingers to see how she reacted. She refused to have the dog cat- tested unless I had an approved application on file. Why would I spend 2 hours filling out a long, detailed application, attach documents and photos, and bother my references before I even knew whether the dog would be okay with my cats? She told me they didn't want to waste their time if people weren't serious about adopting. I guess it's ok to waste my time filling out a lengthy application for a dog I haven't even met yet. This is NOT the way to find animals loving homes!

There's only one person working here and it was really busy for that one person to handle. She was really friendly and really knows the dogs and her passion shows. The store itself has a great selection of great products for sale that go right back to funding the operation. We purchased some pictures and other home decor items that were perfect for our home. Great place worth checking out!

This is the worst shelter I have ever worked with. When we adopted a dog from them. They not only…read morefailed to mention any medical issues, when within a week we had spend over $500 extra for vet care, they offered zero support. When we tried re-homing the dog to medical issues, they didn't respond immediately until I sent a more stern email about their lack of care/support for the animals they adopt and for the adopters. The response by the owner? Threaten to circulate my families name around. We rescued another dog we've had for over 6 years, and when my sister needed help to re-home one of her dogs, we reached out to the other shelter and they helped out so my sister could get HER dog re-homed, but because they believe I have "rehomed" 2 animals. Even though it's only been ONE pet, the pet they gave us. I will combat any circulation they can try and do and easily provide documentation validating everything. My family (my siblings and my parents as well) have a great history of rescuing animals with multiple shelters in the area and there will be proof of that. But because they stole our money for a dog with health issues that they couldn't be transparent about or offer financial support after gouging us over $500 for fees and training course, that didn't help at all. I will be sure to circulate the bad press about them even further than they can even try with myself. My track record is well established and emails between them, vet bills, and documentation of other very successful adoptions will show that this organization is a joke.

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed Adopt previously. My dear sweet Calliecakes is from this shelter,…read moreso I am forever grateful that they rescued her. My parents saw her at the shelter back in 2012 and texted me her photo (because they knew I wanted a cat), and I was like "yes absolutely I want her I will come get her." And the rest is history -- it's been 11 great years with my bestie (and hopefully many more). And then a year later, almost to the day, my parents were like "hey let's go to Adopt" the day after Thanksgiving and they ended up getting a cat (their second) for themselves. I haven't been back to the shelter since 2013 when I went with them when they decided to get their cat, but at that time the shelter was super nice and they had several rooms where cats could roam free. It was a nice, no-stress situation to be able to sit on a sofa or on the floor and have the cats come check you out. So many snuggles. And I follow them on Instagram and they continue to do great work and care deeply for the animals they rescue. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a new best friend! And now enjoy the cat photo spam/cat tax :)
