It asks what options for clawing are you interested in? I took this to mean these were the options that they had available for adoption, but really it was a trick question meant to completely deny your application. So for any future would be adapters this location will immediately deny your application if you check any of the declawing options. I want to reiterate that I don't declaw my cats and never have, but I have adopted cats that were declawed by previous owners as well as cats that have never been declawed. To anyone who makes it this far and is still looking to adopt a cat or any pet, I suggest that you go to the city Pound. They are far more invested in getting those pets a home because the ones that don't find a home will be euthanized.

When it came to adoption time we felt like the choice was made, but we felt really unsupported in our choice by the staff when we expressed concerns about the cat we chose. He was clearly not healthy and we made a point to say something and were immediately dismissed. After coming home we were contacted about how the cat was doing and after expressing concerns we were told to not worry, although the behaviors of the cat were VERY worrisome to us. We were told to come back the next day if the behaviors continued, but were met with discouraging manners and very off putting attitudes toward us. We only wanted to make sure the cat was getting the veterinary care it deserved and was heathy but we felt as though WE were the problem for caring too much and were dismissed again. We even called the hotline that we were explicitly told would have multiple people that would answer. We left a voicemail Friday night and no response at all. When we dropped off the cat to the location they called the number and immediately got an answer from them. That shows how much they don't care about the cat's health or the people adopting.

A staff member stayed with us the whole time, helping with the dog introduction and answering our questions. In addition to caring staff, the space is clean inside & out and the dog looked healthy & well cared for. This is a great place and I recommend it without hesitation.

Everyone at the shelter is kind, compassionate, and truly dedicated to making sure both pets and people are happy. A very special thank you to Dee, who was an absolute blessing. She was so patient, helpful, and understanding...answering every question I had with such care. She went above and beyond by making arrangements with the vet for my two kittens, and I never once felt rushed or overlooked. I adopted two beautiful kittens, and knowing they came from a place filled with so much love and support gives me such peace of mind. It is very clear that everyone at this shelter is passionate about helping animals find safe, happy homes, and about supporting families after adoption as well. I am so grateful for all the services they provide and for the genuine kindness of the staff. Thank you, Dee, Dr. Kristen and thank you DuPage County Animal Shelter, for helping me with my two precious "kids" and for the care you continue to give.

I visited Petland in Bolingbrook because I was looking to get a hamster. Unfortunately, the…read moreconditions in the small animal area were concerning. Hamsters, rabbits, ferrets, birds, and guinea pigs were kept in open cages, and employees were encouraging customers to remove the animals' igloo-style hiding places so they could grab them. Many of the animals looked very scared and stressed. Another concern was that the hamsters did not appear to have water available at the time I was there. Small animals need constant access to water, so this was alarming to see. I did end up purchasing a hamster because I had come in specifically looking for one, but I almost decided against it due to the conditions. The container they placed the hamster in was extremely small and made of very thin cardboard. Within minutes she had already chewed holes through both sides of the box. Thankfully I had a shoebox in my car and was able to move her into something more secure for the drive home. To be honest, experiences like this made other pet stores such as PetSmart look much better by comparison. In my experience, they typically provide sturdier transport boxes and appear to maintain better basic care standards for their animals. I hope the store takes a closer look at how these animals are housed and handled. Small animals are often overlooked, but they still deserve proper care, constant access to water, and environments that reduce stress.

The place really keeps limited stock and is geared towards more aquatic pets, birds or bunnies. If you're looking for the basics then you're good but if you're looking to browse at all, then you probably have a better chance hitting a bigger chain in general.
