You can do better... running a factory, poor bedside manner. I am a healthcare provider and saw Dr. Gross as a patient, to be evaluated for possible glaucoma and macular degeneration. The overall service was disappointing and Dr. Gross' bedside manner was cold and his thoughts were disorganized. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Helm only to find out that I was placed with Dr. Gross. When I checked in, I specifically stated I had an appointment with Dr. Helm. Nobody told me that I would be seeing a different doctor until the preliminary intake was done in the exam room. I was offered to reschedule, but at that time I had been in the office for half an hour and I had rearranged my own patients to accommodate this appointment. Dr. Gross' bedside manner was distant and clinical. As I run my own practice and especially as a medical colleague, I expected more of collegial interaction. Dr. Gross walked into the room, washed his hands, did not offer to make any kind of salutation such as a fist bump or an elbow bump and then sat down at the computer and continued to predominantly talk to himself while he entered information in the computer. After measuring my eye pressure, Dr. Gross wanted a corneal thickness test. I subsequently had to be taken to another room to have the test done. After the test was done, his office staff asked me to sign a piece of paper stating that I would agree to pay for the exam if it was not covered by insurance. I was quite annoyed that I was being asked to sign paperwork for a test that was already done without any discussion prior to the exam. I then went back to the exam room and then Dr. Gross wanted another test, on optic nerve mapping; I was lead to another room. Finally, Dr. Gross wanted a third test of a visual field test, which I had to go to another room across the building During all this time, Dr. Gross continued to discuss clinical findings in a less than coherent manner. His back was to me even when explaining things to me. He failed to explain prognosis and other treatment options without me prompting him. In the future it would behoove Dr. Gross to keep his thoughts to himself until he had accumulated all the data before making a piecemeal diagnosis and recommendation. This group is running a factory and you can do better. read more

After searching online for a Doctor to consult with about Lasik surgery I found HELM Vision Group. They had good reviews so I made an appointment (no charge) to get information on the Lasik procedure, and find out if it would be a good fit for me. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. Dr. Helm was very personable and took the time to recognize patients waiting, some obviously repeat customers. The office was busy, which I thought was a good thing as it is a sign of happy and satisfied customers. If I was the only one in the office I may have had reason for concern. After getting my eyes checked out I met with Dr. Helm, and he explained the process. My left eye was a good candidate, but my right eye was questionable. After discussing my options with Dr. Helm I decided to have Lasik surgery on my left eye. Two weeks later I showed up for my Lasik surgery. Again the staff was very friendly and helpful and the office was busy. The surgery was performed and Dr. Helm explained exactly what to expect during and after the procedure. Today, the day after the procedure I had my follow up appointment. I've had a better than expected result with my vision and I could not be more happy. I'm grateful for the entire experience and plan to recommend HELM Vision group to family and friends. read more

Dr Helm and his staff are amazing and very accommodating. My family and I originally followed Dr Engh here. My college son wanted Lasix done so we were referred to Dr Helm. The staff was able to accommodate my son's college schedule ( he goes to school out of town 6 hrs away) and we were very pleased with Dr. Helm's demeanor and the care he gave him. My son's surgery turned out even better than expected, 20/15 vision! A few weeks ago, my son started having an issue with one of his eyes. It ended out being just a dry eye, and my sons work and school schedule keep him busy during the work week so he was only able to come back home on a weekend. The doctor was not scheduled to come in that weekend but once his staff spoke to him about our situation, he came in just to see my son! I was very impressed. I see that people are complaining about the wait time and yes, I did wait over an hour the first time I saw him but I also believe it is because the doctor and staff are exceptional. If I go to an outstanding restaurant, I usually have to wait even with a reservation so I just take it in stride. To me it is worth it to see such an amazing doctor. read more

I had PRK (a version of Lasik) at Helm Vision Group in December and it is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only is my vision fantastic, but my experience with the staff, doctors, and surgeons has been wonderful. In particular, Dr. Helms and Maggie (at the front desk) are professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Maggie really knows what she is talking about from scheduling and billing to the procedures. I've seen Dr. Helms at all of my visits (pre-op, operation, and post-op). I've always felt comfortable and secure under his care. The procedure itself was short and not horrible. They removed the top layer of each eye and then corrected my vision using a laser. The recovery was also very smooth, although, I will say that it was fairly uncomfortable for a day or two and there was light sensitivity for a few weeks. Even with the discomfort, I would do it again in a heartbeat and I would suggest Dr. Helms to anyone. read more

Dr. Helm is the only Doctor I would trust with my eyes! He has been my eye doctor since I was in High school and I love coming to his office. The staff is very friendly and always very efficient. I had my Lasik eye surgery almost one year ago and it was the most amazing experience ever that I wish I had done it earlier its an amazing feeling to wake up in the morning and see the alarm clock without having to look for your eye glasses for a half hour :) !! My Lasik procedure was scheduled at 3 p.m. and by 3:30 I was already in my car getting a ride back home it was that quick and simple including all the paper work. I was super scarred on the day of the surgery but the staff and Dr Helm with his fantastic funny sense of humor made me at ease. Dr Helm is truly the best at his field he is overqualified!!! I would never go to anyone else! I highly recommend Dr. Helm !!! read more

I'm a newcomer to Helm Vision Group, since my friend recommended me to try out the place about a month ago. On my first visit, I can say that this optical group is exceptional at what they do. I was very pleased with their service and the staff is amazing. The person who helped me for my appointment was Dr. Guan. She was very sweet and nice, very knowledgeable in this field. She's also very attractive, which was an added bonus to my visit. Not to mention, she recommended me these new contacts to try out, which are awesome! Helm Vision Group is a good optical office and I already started recommending my friends to check out this place. I am so glad I came here! read more

So like many stereotypical men, I usually avoid going to the Dr. office. Upon arrival I was immediately surprised on how beautiful the office looks. Clean, nice decor and TVs to boot. Reception greeted me immediately and made me feel as though they were there to actually help rather than take a number. I've visited 3 times now and on each visit the staff for beginning to end seem to show actual concern and compassion. All the Docs are awesome too! If you're looking for and vision services, I doubt you would be find a better place. read more

Came in to Helm's office just before closing time with my prescription. Everyone around looked more than happy to help. I was helped by Bri and I told her the I was just looking for a very basic pair of glasses. She pulled many pairs to choose from and I was able to find a pair I really liked very easily with her. I was able to get my glasses very fast. It only took a few days but was still the quickest I have ever received a prescription pair of glasses. I will definitely go back and refer everyone to them. read more

Marco did all the pre-testing and he was amazing. He had me laughing the whole time and feeling so comfortable, like I had been going to that office my whole life. I always request him now to do all my pre-testing when I schedule my appointments! read more

This was my first time to go to the new Helm Vision Group on Plum Canyon, and I was very impressed with the staff, the new building, and my entire experience. Dr. Fitzgerald was very thorough, and my experience choosing glasses went very quickly, as it is a much quieter office than the one on Tourney Rd, and was a more personal experience. It was a little farther from my house, but worth a few minutes more of driving. read more

Everyone in the office is so kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The girls that helped me pick my glasses know exactly what looks best on each face shape, and can match your style perfectly. I've never seen an inventory that harbors such a variety for frames! It's truly refreshing. The employees and doctors are professional and personable. Every single one of them cares for each patient and his/her satisfaction. read more

I recently went for a vision check due to family history of glaucoma. I saw a Dr. Yelenskiy. He was very thorough, polite, and walked me through everything I needed to have done that day. He ran all the tests needed promptly and courteously, and he made it more comfortable than any other doctor I've been to. I highly recommend Dr. Yelenskiy. He's truly the best doctor I've been to. read more
