I just want to give an update re my experience with Helm Vision. I reached out to a manager to follow up my eyeglasses. Lema, the Optical Manager, called me back and she gave me an update re production mistakes that resulted to delay. After couple of days, I got my eye glasses. I would say that I am thankful for sharing my experience because I got a better product. I ordered for thin lenses because my grade is already high and I asked if the original lenses were thin already and the manager told it was. But the new lenses I got is so much thinner that the original. I just want to share with you that Lema made an extra effort to deal with the situation and she handled it professionally. Thanks Lema. First and foremost let me start by saying WOW to their impeccable and knowledgeable staff. Dr. Helm and his team superseded my expectations. I had been researching Lasik eye surgery for years and after gaining enough courage to follow through with consultations, Helm Vision Group was the right place for me. Maggie and her front office staff were very friendly and approachable upon arrival. I decided to schedule my appointment. The day of, my nerves subsided quit quickly because of the thorough step by step explanation provided by Dr. Helm himself. Before I knew it, I was in the chair ready to get started. Next thing you know my procedure was done. I did my part as instructed at home including eye drops, and wearing my shields. My post-op was the following morning and although Dr. Helm was not scheduled to work, he came in just to make sure all had gone well. After wearing glasses for 20+ years, my vision is now 20/15. I have Lasik in February 2018. I had the worst vision my whole like... literally I was -10 in both eyes. I almost had to get special contacts because of my vision . I made an appt to have a consultation with Dr helm for lasik .. he answered every question and concern I had .. The lasik surgery was pretty fast. It was a bit scary and uncomfortable for about 20 min . After the surgery I walked out with almost 20/20 vision!!! A few days went by and my vision got clear and clear .. Dr. Helm and his team were amazing with the whole process .. No regrets!!! A year later my vision is still perfect!! read more

Everyone at Helm Vision Group is very professional. They respond to your needs and questions. The two locations are clean, modern and efficient. I'm working through some frustrations with my choice of lens after cataract surgery. Several times I have had to see the Optometrist Dr. Quan for my follow ups. I really can't say enough good things about her. She is so thorough and takes the time to explain everything and listen to my questions and concerns. I came in for one final visit before making a decision about replacing the lenses that had been put in. She worked with me trying to find a solution to my issues. She was just wonderful. What really blew me away was after we made a decision. She called me a few days later and told me she'd discussed it with Dr. Helm and relayed their thoughts. I had one eye exam at this office. Nothing unusual or special to report. But 1 1/2 years later I needed my eyeglass prescription to replace an existing pair of glasses. The doctor only wrote the prescription for one year, so it expired. Dr. Helms' office administrator flatly denied my request to extend the prescription stating that it is the "office policy" to write prescriptions for only one year. Remarkably, the administrator insisted that "office policy" was more important than medical necessity. To make things worse, she would not let me speak with a doctor about the problem. Something didn't seem right. I dug up information on the internet. Turns out that under CA law, the expiration date for eyeglasses prescriptions can not be less than two years unless there is a specific medical reason for a shorter duration. I shot a fax bringing the law to the attention of Dr. Helms. By the end of the day, he wrote back stating "because I do not wish to change my policy which I base on sound medical judgment and experience, I would prefer that you find another practice for your vision care." In other words, since I showed him that what he was doing is "unprofessional conduct" under the law, Dr. Helms decided he didn't want me as a patient anymore. I think that Helms' willful violation of B&P Code section 2541.1(b) merits a zero star rating on Yelp, but I'm stuck giving him one star out of five. I have questions about the integrity of a doctor who refuses to comply with the law. read more

The two stars are because of their lack of Covid precautions to keep patients safe. I would give this office 3 stars based on the doctor I went to see. First, the doctor review. He was fine. Nice enough. But I was referred because of an eye problem and he couldn't figure out the issue. I went to see another specialist in another office in the Valley (45 min away) and he was able to give me a diagnosis and a follow up plan. Based on this, I can't say I'd come back to Helm to see the original doctor. Now the office review. My two star reviews are because they are very lax on their Covid protocol. No one asked if I had any cold, flu symptoms when I walked in. No temperature check. Nothing at all to make sure I wasn't a possible Covid patient. No plexiglass to separate the front desk from the patients. I felt bad for the front desk clerks who had to sit there and be bombarded with questions by patients. ThAnkfully most people were wearing masks except for one man who defiantly wore a mask under his nose and kept sniffling in the waiting room. When I went back to the waiting room a second time he had pulled his mask completely off. The office was filled with patients who looked like they were all over 65. One had a oxygen machine with her. Very sad to see that this man would knowingly pull off his mask when he obviously had some sort of nasal issue when so many older patients were around and none of the office staff would question him about it. I was going to bring my family here to get new prescriptions for glasses and contacts but there's no way I'll go back to this office after seeing their no-protocol system at this office. I'd rather take a chance somewhere else. read more

I gave you a second chance. Shame on me. Just a normal annual exam today for a new contact lens prescription. Checked in at 2:52 pm (they make you write down your arrival time) for my 3:00 pm appointment with Dr. Gross. Didn't get called out of the waiting area until 3:50 pm. Got out of the final exam room at 5:05 pm. Thank goodness the ordering of my contacts took a quick 10 minutes thereafter and I was out the door around 5:20 pm. I'm sorry, but under no circumstance should someone spend 2 and a half hours here for a routine visit. read more

My husband and I have been patients of a local optical group for over 25 years but unfortunately their service is no longer up to par. I'm happy to say that we're now happy patients of The Helm Group. Seriously, each and every single person you come in contact with is exceptional. This is a very busy, thriving practice but I've never felt rushed. During one of my recent appointments I tried on at least 30 frames, encompassing over a two-hour span. Again, never felt rushed. Today, I saw Lema. She was fantastic; very honest and candid with her suggestions on what looks good, and what's 'in'. I don't know what The Helm Group pays their staff but it must be pretty good because the staff is very happy and it shows in the service they provide their patients. But perhaps a raise is in order too! read more

This was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever witnessed. My mom has had issues with her glasses the dr changed her prescription and adjusted it to help her needs and the girls that help with the glasses side were really rude. Lema is as pushing back on adjusting my moms glasses even though the dr changed her prescription. Lema was also really rude with my mother and pushed her out of the office at the end. I witnessed this whole process which also included Lema going to the back to talk trash about my mother with the other girls. Maybe close the door next time you door to talk about a patient. My cataract/IOL surgery process seemed like an assembly line operation: very rushed appointments, very poor (if any) explanations, and even worse responses to questions. That and poor results requiring additional surgery and months of additional inconvenience. The doctor informed me that everything was fine post repositioning surgery, but then prescribed glasses that caused significant eyestrain and are unwearable. In my experience, if following an examination the prescribed eye correction is incorrect - poor or painful vision with lenses - the doctor as a courtesy - meaning no additional charge - will reexamine your eyes as well as ensure the lenses were prepared and fitted correctly. This was not the case - you will need to wait days or possibly weeks for an appointment which you will then be charged for. In addition, when it happens again - replay the previous explanation. Twice now my optical rx from dr. helm needed to be corrected, significantly increasing the wait time. My suggestion: Find a doctor that is not always in a hurry. I wish i had obtained a second opinion and gone elsewhere after the suboptimal results of the first surgery. read more

Just had the most Amazing experience at the Helm Vision Group. Upon arrival I was greeted immediately by a Friendly and Professional lady that got me started with my paperwork. I was then whisked off to another room where I had a multitude of tests done, an all were explained in detail to me so I felt very comfortable. And I had a good experience. I was then brought to Dr. Amanda Antonino who was extremely through and was very patient with me. I am an Engineer in the Motion Picture Industry an my vision is my lively hood. So I am very picky on the adjustments made, an Dr. Antonino was right there with me every step of the way. I was then put in the very capable hands of Andrea Cuba a licensed Optician, where She sat me down and we discussed how I was using my Glasses to see better as I was getting 3 different pairs. I can't say enough about the professionalism and genuine compassion for their Clients. I will be coming back to for years to come. Andrea also helped me pick out 3 AWSOME pairs of Glasses. I can't wait to get them!!! BTW- Andrea was kind enough to put new pads on my current glasses,(from another company) so I was not uncomfortable for the next couple of weeks while they made up my new sets...... I went to Helm Vision Group for laysik eye surgery. Erica was a big help for me prior to my surgery day, helping me with timing and returning all of my calls promptly. She was so sweet, comforting and helpful with my questions. On my day of surgery, I was only under the laser system for about 13 minutes and under the actual laser for only about 6 seconds each eye! The experience was like going ludicrous speed, out of a so-fi movie. It was comforting knowing I was under the best laser system, the only laser system that is FDA approved with 400 pulses per minute (as compared to what my father had in 2001 of 200 ppm). I was getting anxious but Dr. Helm calmly walked me threw what he was doing before he would proceed, and comforted me the whole way. I felt no pain until taking off the tape from the mask I wore out. An amazing experience! I can see 20/15 now and was able to see the next day and drive home (Mammoth Lakes) , and went skiing/work that weekend. If considering laser eye surgery, I would recommend Helm Vision Group. read more

I had to come a second time for a recheck on my new prescription. Somehow my prescription was off and Dr. Shuan was great about finding the right one. I must say I have worn glasses my whole life and never had experiences like I have had at Helm Vision Group. When you walk in you will meet Nellie. She is always very friendly and professional. Christine then took all of my eye measurements and she is also great. Then Mayra did my eye exam, another great experience. Then to Dr. Helm... WOW, he is extremely busy, never rushes and gives you all the time you need. Not only is he an amazing surgeon he has the people skills to go with it! When I was checking out Jackie added the icing on the experience that every one had already set up. This office is extremely professional. My wife is a type 1 diabetic and has had many eye surgeries and complications and this was her first visit to HVG and Dr. Helm. She said to me in the car on the way home "I'm not going back to my Beverly Hills or USC doctor again." Needless to say she was extremely impressed! There are a couple of framed articles on the wall you should read. Dr. Helm and a brain surgeon removed like a 4" nail that went through a mans eye socket and lodged in his brain. 1. Used to go to Dr Eng, but a few years back his shop folded into this one & I was moved to their dr. The office is very big & professional inside, but the service is not good. Every visit I've ever had i have to sit around & wait forever. I'd say on average I don't see the Dr until about 45min to an hour after my apt time. The cost for an exam also seems very steep & they write your prescription so that it expires in a year, forcing you to come back. read more

My son and I came here for eye exams on the recommendation by a friend. We were seen by Dr. Benosa, she was very courteous and professional. She answered all questions and wrote a prescription for reading-computer glasses for me and regular glasses for my sons nearsightedness. The ladies helped us both choose our glases and were extremely friendly, as were the front desk personnel. We were seen in a timely manner and all COVID precautions were adhered to. This group is completely impersonal. Contacted the office for eye issues beyond normal vision test. Staff and doctor were rude, abrupt, and did not treat issue. Then they tried to bill me for a regular eye exam despite not being there for a regular eye exam. Would never go back nor will I ever recommend. Horrible. read more

After years of doing eye exams at the Mall, I was referred to Helms and had a very good experience. The were timely - all precautions were in place so you felt safe. It has truly been a pleasure being a patient at Helm Vision Group. I originally made an appointment with them because I had an infection in my cornea, and all of the staff and doctors were so kind and caring. The infection was due to wearing contacts, so I finally took the plunge and had LASIKS done - best decision I've ever made!!! Everything from pre-op to post-op has been smooth and stress-free. Dr. Gross did an amazing job and I now have 20/15 vision!!! All of the girls who work at the front desk are so sweet, and they even remember my name and always greet me warmly as if I am an old friend. I came here based upon a recommendation and I am here to recommend helm vision group from my personal experience. I had Lasik surgery. Everything was efficient, thorough, and professional. I was impressed after my first visit based upon how smoothly everything went from check in, to each stage of the initial exam. I left confident that the surgery would go well and I was in good hands. Sure enough, on the day of the surgery everything went perfectly. I had clear instructions on what to do and felt all the variables were taken care of. Great care at Helm Vision Group! Been a patient for years and now love they have Saturday hours which helps if you don't work in SCV! Also, here's a tip: pay the $39 for the pictures of your eyes instead of dilation. Well worth it! Much faster and you don't have to endure the drops or dilation that prevents you from doing lots afterwards! Dr. Benosa is also very thorough. I'm not going back. Dr Gross has no bedside manner. He asked question while I was answering he started talking and examining me. He gave me a prescription but basically stated IRS not going to work. He asked me the pharmacy I used and while I was answering him he said nevermind and printed it out. The procedure he told me about he didn't explain & when I inquired I was told I'll see you in about 10 days or so. Huh? I went to check out the front desk older lady was ABSOLUTELY USELESS. I asked her if she could send my prescription to the pharmacy I use & I was told he already printed it out. As if she couldn't be bothered to send it to my pharmacy. I asked her about the procedure that I may have to have done and she misused big words as if I didn't know that she had no idea or couldn't be bothered to explain. Needless to say I'm going to inform my insurance company as well. Totally unexceptionable behavior. Some people need to realize that we have choices in life. read more

I tried this optometry since I was new to the area. The doctors are just ok, and on some visits, I feel rushed. As far as the staff office , the manager for the optical department acted put out when I needed help fixing a missing nose pad. When she had none that fit my eyeglasses she supposedly ordered new ones, it's been 3 months and I never received the nose pads to fix the glasses. As for the quality of products, I rate this even lower, I ordered lenses with the highest scratch resistance but these lenses seem to be the worst. I had to replace the lenses twice in a year for scratches. I've been wearing glasses for many years and their lens quality is the worst. read more

I am shocked that I was charged $175.54 to have a contact lens that was stuck in my eye removed. I called and talked to office manager who said they had to do comprehensive exam and use a slit lamp to find foreign body. Lol Let's just say I won't be using this place anymore for my eye needs. This review is for the eyeglass dept, Maxi Silver is great, she really knows what she is doing, I've worn glasses for 20+ years, but this time there was a minor problem with them, it was not really the prescription, it was hard to describe, they just felt weird to look through, she had them redone to match the curve of my old lenses, who would have known that would make such a difference, somebody experienced like Maxi.
