We came here a couple times during the pandemic and this part (1 of 3) dog parks were closed off at the time. I'm glad they opened it back up! The other 2 (small and large) dog parks across the walkway were a decent size as well, but all dirt and gravel. Our huskies wanted to sniff that area, since their seemed to be ground squirrels or moles living in the other dog park too. Hahaha This grassy side was nice and clean-free of dog poop and even had some chairs for people to sit in. We always walk with our puppies, but the chairs were a nice touch as well. It's $6 for a day pass to park at this park and/or the larger park around the corner with a playground, reservable table sites, a lake and water play structure for the children to play in. So $6 and if you bring your own food, one could play/hangout all day here! Hee. We'll be back! read more

I love going to this park! They have three separate areas: one for small dogs, one for large dogs, and one for all dogs. What I really appreciate is that the park has real grass and dirt. There's also water and dog bags available, which is very convenient. The only downside is that the grassy area is only in the 'for all dogs' section I wish the small dog area had grass as well. read more

A little confusing to find at first , but just follow the signs. There is an entrance fee if there's a worker which is probably half of the week, I'd you have a disable placard it's free. The park is split into small and big dog enclosure but honestly, it's a bit unfair. The small dog side has no grass/ dried our grass and is a barren wasteland with not too much shade. The big dog size has lush grass and plenty of shade along the perimeter. You can also bring your own camping chair to park under a tree if you'd like. There's a lot of holes in the grass though and it's so big that some lazy owners don't pick up their dogs poop because they think no one is around to see them, lame-o. Big dogs side I give 3 stars. Super dog friendly and spacious enclosure! I brought my dogs out here to enjoy socializing with other fur babies and to get some walks in after a year of quarantining inside. It wasn't super busy and the dogs that showed up at the park were all super cute and friendly! Since my dogs haven't ever been to a dog park, I thought this park was perfect for them to be introduced to the environment in a low key environment. Molly was a bit anxious and wanting to go home, but luckily the fencing enclosure was good and kept her from escaping. My only concern (and reason for 1 star) is the post that states that the dog park tends to flood from time to time (so I'm wondering if anything will be done or has been done to keep doggies safe) and that the park could be a bit cleaner. Saw some dog poop lying around and stagnant water sitting in buckets. Are there staff that occasionally clean the parks? Either way, I brought my poop bags to clean up after my Molly (Charlie doesn't like to poop outside of home) and some water for the pups! Since he's only 6month he was in the little dog area the other dogs were in the big dog area , but were talking to my pup (smelling ) thru the fence. We are usually frequents of Butcher Dog Park, but this place is a whole different vibe (in a good way). Hellyer Dog Park is HUGE compared to Butcher (see pics). It also is real grass/dirt as opposed to turf & has more tree shade cover, which makes this a great option for hot days Because this place is so huge, the vibe is super chill amongst the dogs (rather than the dogs being on top of each other & having territory disputes). Standard parking through the Hellyer County Park is $6 BUT I've heard you can park on nearby streets (McLaughlin) and walk in . There is a water spicket with reusable buckets & poop bags/shovels provided. DEFINITELY a must go for your pup. read more

I take my 11 month old black lab puppy here fairly often. It's a great place for dogs to run and play the only downside is some owners take little to no responsibility over their dog. I have been personally attacked by dogs jumped on etc. and the owners will do nothing. I end up having to take control the situation or remove myself and my dog from the park entirely. Yesterday a friend of mine took her black lab to this park. Her and I often meet up and let our dogs play together. Well thank goodness I didn't go yesterday but unfortunately she did and her poor dog was attacked by a pitbull. I am not ragging on the breed or calling them out but facts are facts. The owners had two pitbull's a male who was on a leash, I'm assuming because they know he has aggressive behavior. The other pitbull was female and she was let loose, she was the dog who attacked the lab. This number is the emergency ranger number and should be called if the couple are the dogs in the photo I posted are at the park. 408 299 2311 I am posting this because it should be brought to the attention of dog owners in the area and if these owners or dogs are seen then we should take the responsibility to call the park ranger. It should be common knowledge that in aggressive dog should not be brought to a dog park! There are techniques and ways of helping your dog with their aggression but bringing them into a dog park with the dogs who are off leash is not one of them. I hope that the owner see this and I hope that they understand that they were wrong and they are to blame for yesterday's encounter. read more

I've brought my last dog and current dog here for years -- first when I lived here many years ago and now whenever I come down from Pacifica to visit my parents in The Villages -- and it is a gem in this area! It is truly a wonderful dog park, in a somewhat secluded area, with a huge, gorgeous lawn, benches and picnic tables, and a great water fountain for the dogs. The dogs and their people are great. It is definitely one of the better dog parks I've been to. My only problem, as a few others have posted, is that the Parks Dept closes it a bit too much for "maintenance" and instead opens the accompanying (original?) fenced dog park across the walk, a not-so-great area of dirt. Why this has to be for a park in sunny & dry California is beyond me -- it's not as if we're in rainy Seattle or snowy Alaska. I've been to dozens & dozens of dog parks all over the country in a varying climates and have never seen a dog park closed as much as this one -- and it is oftentimes difficult to know when it will be closed. I complain only because my dog (and I) love this park so much and it is always a great disappointment when you arrive and it is closed. But, again, when it is open ... just wonderful! read more

Below are the list of things the dog park offer: - Large well groomed grass area for the dogs to run around and fetch their favorite toys and interact with their friends - Balls and toys left be hind for you to use if you forgot yours - Benches, tables and plastic chairs to use while your dog plays - Water buckets and faucet - Also provided are poop bags as well and poop scooper to clean after you dog. Note: During rainy days the large grassy play area may be closed to protect it from getting muddy. However, they have a smaller play area that is with compact dirt that can be used. For owners with smaller dogs, they recently made a small play area just for them if you choose to use. Hands down the BEST dog park in San Jose. Every corner of this giant field has a different feel and vibe. There is also a good amount of dogs that always show up; things can get hectic from 6-8pm but it is usually a lot calmer in the morning and early day. Almost all the owners keep a close eye on their dogs, with a few exceptions of course. There is a $6 dollar entrance fee, but you only need to pay if the workers are there, which is about 3/7 days of the week. Most people park in the neighborhood around the corner to avoid paying. read more

Generally, I really like this dog park. Have been taking my 7-year old cockapoo here for years here. Love it people are generally really friendly. But I have a message to the white mother and daughter duo with the brindle-colored boxer. It's a courtesy lesson for you to learn. When I walked into the enclosure with my dog, your boxer barked at me consistently and you didn't intervene or apologized. Minutes later, your boxer attacked my dog creating a scene among other dogs. And instead of doing the courteous thing to do which is to acknowledge what occurred and apologize, you ignored the situation and walked away. You're accountable for the actions of your dog. Yet, you didn't take accountability reflecting your sense of entitlement and righteousness. Be accountable for your actions and those of your dog. read more

Things I do for my dog...wake up early on Saturday mornings to take him to a dog meet up! hahaha At least I get some bonding time with my cousins, and he gets some bonding time with his cousin. There was one lady with 6 dogs that attacked my puppy and there was nothing I could do I only have 2 hands, and the dogs were biting me as well. Took my little cockapoo here to run wild this past weekend. The dog owners that I encountered are extremely friendly. When we arrived (half hour before sunset), all the small dogs were leaving and there were only large dogs left. There were no issues with that, as my cockapoo does really well with large breeds. The reviews for this park was pretty positive, that's why we gave it a try. However, after our first visit out here, I wouldn't take my girly cockapoo back. For 3 major reasons: 1) It is infested w/ mosquitos! 2) It smells at every perimeter. 3) It is really dirty. Yes, there are pooper scoopers, bags, and water bowls... But that doesn't cut it.. I guess we're pretty spoiled to have such a beautiful park in Morgan Hill, that this one doesn't compare a bit. read more

Path to dog park is only about 100 feet, very short walk. Dog park is located on the Velodrome side, not the lake side. Hellyer Ave side has a parking lot near Shadowbluff Group Picnic Area. There is a $6 fee at the main entrance through gate. Exit Hellyer Ave off of Highway 101. Annual pass or other discounts offered for use at all county parks. FREE for people with permanent disabilities or handicapped plates. Real grass. Real fun. Dirt enclosure is open on Wednesdays only when the grass enclosure is closed for maintenance. Most people hate the dirt side and don't show up, but the dogs don't care as long as they get to play. The dog park is OPEN 365 days a year. Summer hours: 8 am - 8 pm. Winter hours: Sunrise - Sunset. I've been there daily for over a year during the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. There is NO problem with closures as stated by other reviewers, except for Wednesdays and during the winter. (1) Grass enclosure has 3 picnic tables, 3 benches, and plenty of plastic chairs to move to your favorite spot. (2) Dirt enclosure has 1 picnic table and 1 bench. Plenty of shade from giant trees. Water, pooper scoopers, poop bags, trash cans, double-gated entry are in both enclosures. Bathroom is next to parking lot. It'd be great if they kept both enclosures open at the same time to separate the small dogs from the large dogs since some small dogs are intimidated by the large dogs. Right now, all dogs share the same enclosure. Both enclosures have disabled accessibility. This is my puppy's favorite dog park to play with friendly dogs with their parents. It's a huge, beautiful, 2-acre fenced park to run and fetch balls, frisbees, etc. Evenings are busy after 5 pm. Afternoons are dead. Mornings are varied. It's not crowded. read more

This park is definitely not a 5 star park. The dog park at Ed Levin County park is a 5 star park. This is more of a 3 star park because if I am going to be paying $6, I have higher standards. There are parks that are free, that are even better than this. There are two enclosures. One with nothing but dirt and leaves. And the other with grass. Sadly, the day I went, the one with grass was closed. I doubt I would come back to this park because there isn't a separation for big dogs and little dogs. My dog is pretty little to be running around with the big ones. read more

Keep in mind, they maintain the grass side on Wednesdays, so it is closed. Only the dirt side is open, and my dog always gets full of spiky burrs. It does cost $6 to get in, or $95 for the year to get into all Santa Clara County parks, which includes Los Gatos Creek, which also has a dog park. Totally worth it in my opinion. The area is fairly nice. I like that it has real grass, because Los Gatos is fake and it gets super hot in the middle of a summer day. This does mean that it sometimes gets soggy or muddy and there are holes EVERYWHERE. Be careful walking around, I almost broke an ankle when chasing my dog. Some people don't pick up poo, some don't watch their dogs, but it is no worse than any other dog park. It is sometimes too quiet with no dogs to play with. It's usually busier in the mornings and evenings. The water area could definitely be improved. That and the not nice dirt side are the reason for 1 star down. read more

I've been wanting to bring my dog here for the past few months, but have always hesitated because some of the dog parks I've been to are extremely dirty and horribly maintained. On a weekday just before sunset, we decided to bring our boy and got his favorite squeaky ball as well. There are two gates to the enclosure for safety purposes, a bench and a few chairs, water fountain and doggie potty bags. Very convenient, I thought to myself. The enclosure itself was pretty big and there were not too many dogs at that time. I was disgusted seeing uncleaned dog poop in certain places, but overall the grass was cleaner than expected. Our dog had hell a lot of fun playing fetch and socializing with other dogs. This will definitely turn out to be one of the regular places that we take our dog to. read more

There are other activities around (such as bbq areas and jogging trails) should you have plans outside just of a trip to the dog park, so that's a plus and the yard itself is pretty spacious. It's nice for the dogs to run around, but if something were to happen, (i.e having to remove a dog that tries to hump YOURS, break up a tiff if something were to happen, or even simply picking up poo) it is so far away that even at a dead sprint would take awhile to intervene). In my opinion, the Owner participation and supervision of their dog's behavior is numero uno. However, what the reviews did NOT say about this park is that it costs $6.00 to enter. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely a supporter of our local parks and recreation, but if you hadn't been forewarned, it's unlikely that you would bring money to dog park (which is generally free) . Getting in and out of there is pretty trying. You and 240 other people are trying to trying to pile out of a 4 way stop. About 238 of them were impatient and didn't know how to drive. The biggest complaint I would have about this place is not necessarily a complaint, rather that a concern. There are large groups of sketchy looking people scattered among the parking lots. I'm not speaking from a 'spolied snob' point of view that thinks sketchy is someone in baggy jeans that may be a little different. I'm speaking from a 'I used to live in Downtown Oakland and felt safer' point of view. Im not saying its awful, but I don't think we'll be back. read more

Amazing dog park! Knocked a star off because it's closed pretty often, and because there's no separation of small and big dogs. But the shared grassy area is great! Haven't been to the sandy side that often, but it's an alright alternative to the grassy side. There's real grass, huge area, plenty of seating and shade. Just watch your dog when they're interacting with other dogs. I've seen a few non behaved pups completely take over the park sometimes. I just leave if there's a dog making me and my dog uncomfortable. There's also water buckets and a water faucet. I sometimes find random toys in the park. read more

Time for a review update. I take my 3 dogs here fairly often. I've been to two other dog parks in the area. They all seem to have their strengths and weaknesses and different charms, and yet... all about the same, lol. This one has two separate fenced areas. One side has a big grassy area with a dirt walkway going 3/4 of the way around (not sure why it stops short, honestly). The other side is just dirt, and maybe a little smaller. I've heard people claim that one side is for small dogs, but that is demonstrably not true. I'm not sure where that myth is coming from. Anyway, it's pretty nice here. There are areas with shade for people to hang out in. There are scoopers, chairs, and even a couple picnic tables. Saturday mornings are the best time to come, because there will be more people and dogs there; it tends to be more empty at other times. Things to be aware of... the grassy side gets muddy/marshy in the winter and after rains. Also, this "dog park" is located inside a county park (Hellyer Park) and you're supposed to pay to get in. (We have a yearly pass.) But you can park on the street and walk in (Tuers and McLaughlin is best for short walking distance). The park rangers will come and kick everyone out close to sunset. read more

There are actually two parks, one sucks and the other is great. The one that sucks is all dirt and the park management redirects people there when they perform maintenance on the nice side. The nice park is large, probably close to an acre of land and the majority of it is grass. There are plenty of free bags, seating, trees, and overall probably the best dog park i've been to. The down side, whenever park management feels like it they close the nice side and force you to use the small dirt and rock one. They close it every Wednesday, all day, even though they are done with maintenance by 10am. Whenever it rains they close it. They even recently closed it for 2 months to perform mainteance and the end result is the park looks worse then it did before. The problem with going to this park, is that it's closed very frequently and so relying upon it has been frustrating. The so called 'maintenance' appears to be just execuses not to work... Parking costs $6 on the weekend and i believe it's free during the weekdays. There is alternatives for those that know streets near the park. read more
