Beware of the girl that lives across the street with a dark German shepherd. Her dog is aggressive and when she uses the park she blocks the door so that nobody can get in and use it. I walked around the park and when I came back with my dog she refused to leave. Apparently when she is in there, it is not a public dog park for anyone to use. If you say you are coming in she will tell you her dog will bite yours. I'm all fine with aggressive dogs using the dog park but when someone else comes to use it, it is the owners responsibility to leave so that others can use it. Especially if you are blocking the door!

It turned out Gavin wasn't as enthusiastic about running and I didn't have the patience, so I jogged/ran/walked while he no longer appeared when I turned around. It's a manageable trail/loop, but I had to maneuver around quite a bit because they were doing construction. It's a hidden gem.

Please note: motorcycles/dirt bikes are prohibited. This is a fee park, and it only accepts cards. I found the machine wonky and it took a long time to successfully pay. It was $6 for a day pass. There are multiple trails, at least one bathroom with handicap parking, a picnic shelter withs remarkable bbq pit that can be reserved, and various benches and tables. There is little to no cell service (good or bad? You decide) out there. Out on the trails, we didn't see benches or water, so consider bringing your own water. There were some small boulders when we wanted a respite. I found it lovely out there, quiet, peaceful, with a rugged beauty. I look forward to seeing it in spring.

The park is right next to the Hayes Mansion and it had a nice loop that served its purpose for me. The first loop around, it struck me as somewhat odd- there were seemingly random paths, wood fences, and different terrain. It all made sense to me when I saw a little bulletin board that talked about the park's past history as an amusement park called Frontier Village! Even though I had never visited Frontier Village, I could imagine how some of the park must have looked and could see a western theme in some of the leftover infrastructure. The park has some nice amenities- a large playground area, shaded areas to picnic, a basketball court, tennis courts, pickleball courts, not to mention the loop that goes around the perimeter of the park that is great for walking or jogging laps. However, large areas of the park seem like they are underused/undeveloped/somewhat neglected. I definitely think the city could find better use for some of the space here to develop and create a much better park. Also there were some strange characters hanging around the park, definitely not a place that I'd want to be when it gets dark.

If you live in South San Jose it's definitely worth a visit. One of the best features of this park is the abundance of very tall trees. They provide a ton of shade and make this park a very nice place even on hot days. For kids there are dedicated "big kid" and "little kid" playgrounds, both of which are large enough for long play sessions. There's also a ton of open grass for games. Additionally, there are decently clean bathrooms, a baseball field, and bbq facilities. It's a great place for an outdoor picnic or birthday. Parking is ok, it's all street parking and there's usually enough space. You should be aware that this is very deep in suburbia - there are no stores or anything else within walking distance. So make sure you have drinks and any needed food.

This is a separate designated area which is a separate conservation habitat, distinct from the main…read moreThousand Oaks Park.Our neighborhood rescued this land from being desecrated by the housing authority.As a result of a great community effort from friends from near and far of our wildlife preserve.The community raised over $50,000 to preserve this space for generations to come.The city had this listed as a "vacant lot" which was in danger of unwanted development and destruction of the fragile habitat unless we stepped in.This habitat is home to a family of red tailed hawks and boasts live oak and valley oak trees as well as eucalyptus.There are plaques to educate people of the history of this area, which actually extends to Narvaez Avenue.You can see the pictures of the hawks.Sometimes you see foxes here.This section has paths and benches.It is already open to the public and unfortunately cigarette butts have already been left there on the paths.The ceremony and celebration is July 1st.
