Also, there is NO poop bag dispenser, the parks division took it down so, please, bring bags and if you are feeling generous tie an extra bag or two to the fence for others who might be expecting a bag dispenser.

It turned out Gavin wasn't as enthusiastic about running and I didn't have the patience, so I jogged/ran/walked while he no longer appeared when I turned around. It's a manageable trail/loop, but I had to maneuver around quite a bit because they were doing construction. It's a hidden gem.

Coyote Peak -6 miles (3 miles uphill) v. 4 miles (1 mile uphill) -no shade v. first mile partly shaded -out and back v. loop -limited free parking and ample paid parking v. just ample paid parking -cows v. cows and coyotes and birds -both excellent views Park in the middle of the park off Bernal Road. This is a county park and has a $6 vehicle entrance fee, but I honestly didn't even realize that until I read about it after on the website because there was no signage or pay stations, so not sure if that's still accurate. There are multiple hiking trails. We chose a clockwise loop that included Coyote Peak. -Start at Hidden Springs trail -Transition to Coyote Peak trail -Linger a while at the top (about 1 mile moderately steep constant uphill, 21 minutes) -Continue down Coyote Peak trail to start your gradual 3 mile downhill. -Turn right at the bench to Rocky Ridge trail, where it narrows considerably and almost doesn't look like a path. Watch out for bikes! -Continue on to Mine Hill trail that will put you back where you started.

It's more wild than a local city park but makes for some fabulous walking.

This is a separate designated area which is a separate conservation habitat, distinct from the main…read moreThousand Oaks Park.Our neighborhood rescued this land from being desecrated by the housing authority.As a result of a great community effort from friends from near and far of our wildlife preserve.The community raised over $50,000 to preserve this space for generations to come.The city had this listed as a "vacant lot" which was in danger of unwanted development and destruction of the fragile habitat unless we stepped in.This habitat is home to a family of red tailed hawks and boasts live oak and valley oak trees as well as eucalyptus.There are plaques to educate people of the history of this area, which actually extends to Narvaez Avenue.You can see the pictures of the hawks.Sometimes you see foxes here.This section has paths and benches.It is already open to the public and unfortunately cigarette butts have already been left there on the paths.The ceremony and celebration is July 1st.

This is a great park, definitely worth a drive…read more Tons of open grass for any kinds of sports or dog activities and it's in good condition. It's also very flat. There are two playgrounds, one for younger kids and one for older kids. Both are modern/newer designs with lots of different things to play on. The older kids one is not fenced in, but it's also got a good border of grass around it. There are lots of tall trees around the playgrounds too that provide shade. The park occupies a pretty big rectangle of land with parking on all 4 sides, so unless there was a festival or something I doubt you'd have trouble parking. There are also picnic tables, a basketball court, and some exercise equipment stations.
