This is one of the few dog parks in San Jose I've had mostly great experiences at. We were regulars for a while until October 2023 when our Corgi got a hot spot that needed vet attention and shaving, her fur has grown back so we'll probably be going on the regular again. Sundays starting around 10am there's a Corgi meetup. Most of the owners are nice. There was one day where someone brought out an aggressive dog the owner wasn't correcting, and the other dog owners had no issues telling the guy to remove himself and his dog. This review is for the dog park section of the park. We went to try out a park that we haven't been to before. There was plenty of parking available on the street. The dog park is located in the middle of the park. It is devided into a large and small dog side. The small dog side has water but no poop bags . As evident by the amount of poop around the park. While I was there . A gentleman came in with his dog. Sat down started looking at his phone and completely ignored his dog pooping. He never went to pick it up. He then proceeded to start talking with the rest of the regular people who must visit the park daily. I understand that there are no poop bags or scoopers available. But bring your own. It must be common practice at this park as I witnessed others allowing their dogs to poop without picking up after them. I won't be returning to this place. read more

This review is mostly for the experience with the dog park There are enclosed sections for both the small and dog play areas. They have artifice grass, dog water fountains, and benches for the humans. It gets popular on the weekend mornings. There's a corgi South Bay meet up every Sunday. I try to bring my corgi here a few times to socialize. She still prefer to get pets from human strangers by the benches than to play with canine buddies. It's ok if your dog is shy or not into dog parks; I don't want to force it and let her play a bit and take the cue to leave when she doesn't play anymore. some dog just prefer smaller play dates kinda like introverted humans lol. There are kids playground here like a slide, swings, see saw, jungle gym. It's on the newer cleaner side. It's kind of a small park... It's definitely way less than 1 mile circumference so I'd half to walk multiple laps for my dog to get sufficient exercise for us both. I rather not go here for actually waking though and go to a bigger park. This park is mostly for playing/ socializing with the dogs. There a biking path that runs through this park and if you follow it you can pas behind residential areas to the water tower. Parking can be tricky the lot is small and on Sundays there is game practice on the field (soccer). Sometime I find nearby parking by the curb close by. read more

Great sized park and is fairly clean. Although, there are some occasions where there would be poop lying around near the fences. The park provides poop bags, so there should be no reason to pick up after your dog. The park itself isn't overwhelmingly big, which makes watching my dog easier. There usually are more larger dogs than smaller dogs. There have been times where my dog would be alone. There are benches all around which is great! Some have shade which is nice when it's sunny out. There is a small lot nearby. I've never had a problem finding parking. Overall it's a great park to go to when you want your fur baby to release some energy and socialize. read more

I brought my little fur baby here and he thoroughly enjoyed it. This park is amazing. It has a small dog area and a large dog area. The park is made out of artificial turf. They have shaded benches for us paw parents and a cute little water fountain for the dogs. This park is very clean. Paw parents are very respectful and pick up after their dogs. And there are very few roaming trash pieces around the park. Street parking was pretty easy to find at this park. I will say I wish there was a parking lot. Overall, it was a great experience. I use this as my primary dog park as I only live a short walk from here. I love this dog park community and have found that a majority of the people here are friendly and responsible dog owners. Sometimes you can run in to dog owners who are careless and don't notice when their dog is playing too rough or being a pest. I will say that this dog park is fairly clean and always stocked with doggy poop bags. I also find that the dog owners respect which side is the large dog and small dog side and don't deviate from it unless they are confident their dog can handle it. There are a few homeless/transient people that pass through, but it's because there is a trail adjacent to the park. They are harmless and never bother park attendees. The restrooms are terribly dirty but what can you expect from a public park. read more

This is a great dog park. I highly recommend this one. I love this dog park and all the furry parents I have met here. For the most part, everyone is responsible and caring. The area provides plenty of shade for both dogs, and people park benches for humans, and sometimes dogs join in. Overall it is just awesome. This is a nice neighborhood park. When I was a kid this area was dominated by the Del Monte cannery. My dad was an inspector for the city. I remember going into their basement with them or they had hundreds, if not thousands of barrels of pickles fermenting. Quite a smell! I remember watching my dad climb to the top of the water tower. On the south side of the park is all light industrial and rather noisy. The freeway is close by. On the other side of the park is all brand new condos. The largest part of this park is all soccer fields. It all looks very new and beautiful. We came here for the dog park. It's all artificial turf and concrete. It's fairly small and I doubt that a greyhound could get up to speed inside of here.There are no plants growing inside of the fence. There is water and there are poop bags. This is not a neighborhood you want to walk around at night. There's a small empty field right next to the dog park and if you are familiar with downtown San Jose you know what happens in empty fields at night. read more

A relatively clean dog park. I suggested to meet a fellow acquaintance here to do some stranger socialization with her dog. It's not as big as you think it is as a majority of the block is a huge soccer field. That day, the actual dog park was full with dog owners circling the perimeter of the fenced area. This was 4 PM on a weekday. I recently brought my own dog here and everyone was quite respectful. It has a large dog area as well as a small dog area and everyone stayed in their appropriate side. Of course, you have some owners who bring their dog and don't watch their actions. It's a dog park and you will get those types. However, the park is stocked with potty bags, a fountain, artificial grass, benches all around. This would be my primary dog park, but it's not very close to my house. I recommend this park, but please keep an eye on your dog at all times. read more

The fake grass was very clean and soft on my dogs feet. My dog is picky about fake grass as when it starts to smell it doesn't lend itself to good interactions (peeing dogs = territorial issues), and what dog wants to smell that? This is a Show Out Park. I heard someone gloat(?) about her blue-eyed, gray frenchie that she got shipped from San Diego for a whopping 4000 once. That's when I knew. And despite having a transient try to coax me out for a beer one dark summer night, it's my favorite South Bay dog park to take my shiba. We like to come an hour before sundown during the warm seasons; gives me more an excuse to get takeout and boba on the way home. A poppin Sunday is always fun too because that's when all the cute pups and rarities come out. Mine is usually the tallest in the small dog area so it's a toss-up between playing in there or with the big dogs next door. Either way I get a good amount of screen time and Emi gets to stand in her spot and nip at the other dogs running around. Catch us at said-times ;) read more

This is a really nice park close to downtown San Jose. We walked from the San Pedro Square Market and the trek was about a mile and a half, but it felt longer because we didn't know where we were going, and it was hot. The walk back to the Fairmont seemed quicker. There are two little dog parks: one for small and one for large. Though they look big in the pictures, Cako didn't seem too impressed. She's not a fan of artificial turf. Maybe it was the heat, and the long walk to it, but she didn't feel like playing with any of the dogs. Although, the space is larger than Hart's Dog Park on Santa Clara St. So for a city park, it works for those who need it. read more

Great park, conveniently close to where I live. There have been times when the park could be a little cleaner, but for the most part, it's a lot cleaner than other parks that I've been to. The dog area is split into two, one for small breeds and one for larger breeds. Other reviews say that poop bags are provided, but I've personally always brought my own. The areas also have their own water fountain in case your dog gets thirsty, although some people have questioned it to be clean or not. I've brought my dog here about 4 times a week and it doesn't disappoint. There are usually more dogs present in the afternoon (around 5-7PM depending on how hot it is outside). Saturday morning. 9am. Few dogs but just fine because it's two divided spaces in a 1/4 acre, which is small but doable. Water fountain works, that's a plus. I saw clean garbage cans. Gave it a star. But shame on City of San Jose and the dog owners. I've never seen so much dog poop everywhere. I picked up the stuff in the middle so the dogs didn't run after the ball through it, but it was smeared all over the fences..... piles in many places, smeared spots everywhere in the turf, disgusting. People I met were nice and attentive to the dogs so I gave it a star. But City of San Jose needs to get their cleaning schedule seriously improved at Del Monte. It would help if people picked up after their dogs too. If my dog gets sick for being there 30 minutes because it was necessary, City of San Jose should be responsible. Used to take Jax to the only dog park near our house in SF which combined large and small dogs. Jax was so scared he actually hopped a fence to get away from the giant dogs chasing him. Love that the dog parks here are separated by sizes. Jax enjoyed this much more! Like that they have a dog fountain and balls and that it's fake grass rather thank kicking up dust. While they did put in a number of benches, it just wasn't enough for all the people there and barely any shade so it was really hot. Wish they'd add more benches and shade. Definitely going to be regular coming here! read more

Brought our little fur ball this past weekend to socialize him. He's a full grown corgi and right in the middle in terms of size. There is a small and large dog area. We opted for the small. The artificial turf was pretty clean with the exception of a small pile of turd. Didn't see the offending dog/dog owner, but shame on that person! There where several areas around the park where you could go get a free waste bag! There's also a few balls/toys left behind for pups to play with, a little drinking fountain for the pups near the entrance, and several benches with shade on the perimeter of the turf. Unfortunately, our pup was extremely skittish despite the friendliness of the other dogs. During our first round at the park, the dogs kept to themselves and interacted with their owners. There was an occasional butt sniff. Our pup was pretty much glued to our side and would venture out a couple feet and then come right back. We decided to walk him outside of the park and he seemed to enjoy that much better. On our way back we saw 3 other corgis at the park so we decided to have another go at it. He seemed a little more comfortable this time, but still stayed pretty close to us. Overall we had a lot of fun and we'll be bringing our little guy here again. read more

Removed a star since my last review since I'm not sure how and how often this dog park is cleaned. I've noticed some areas of the grass (especially by the fence) are pretty wet on some days, even without any rain. And a month or 2 ago, my dog experienced severe diarrhea after coming back from here. After the vet, it was concluded that he might've consumed dirty water or something that caused it. Thankfully, no parasites found but his colon was inflamed. After he recovered, I took him back here a couple of times but did notice that his poop was somewhat formless despite healthy stools in our backyard and at another dog park. Not sure why that is so I haven't taken him here since, maybe it was from stress or environmental factors? I really liked this park but I wish I knew how clean it is. read more

The park itself is nicely set up and has a lot of amenities for your pup. Big dog side and little dog side makes it easy to be comfy letting your dog play. There are automatic waterers that all you have to do it step on it and it fills with water.... super convenient. Just make sure you let it run for a few seconds before letting your dog drink from it as at first it spits out warm water when it's a hot day. Also, make sure you walk the perimeter of the fence before you let your dog loose. I think at night this place becomes a hangout for homeless people because I found some questionable items that my dog for sure would have tried to eat had I not picked it up with a doggie bag beforehand. read more

This is probably one of my favorite dog parks! It's super clean because the grass is not real so it's not muddy or dusty. Tons of cute pups on Sunday morning. A few benches in the shade and a few in the sun, saw someone bring an umbrella so that was pretty smart. Warning about this park though. On Monday, there was a guy, not really inside the park but near the playgrounds wanting to fight this guy with his daughter. He seems crazy and someone inside that park says that guy is always there and he's done that before (wanting to randomly fight with random people) Just be with a plus one and stay inside the dog park and you'll be fine. This is a spacious and clean dog park with different sections for small and big dogs. I have been to few other parks in San Jose and you can smell the stink the whole time which makes it difficult to be there. This is the cleanest park I have been to in San Jose so I am able to spend few hours here with my dog. It also has water and poop bag stations. The park is completely fenced and gated which is very safe. Weekends are the best because there are a lot of dogs and the owners are usually responsible. So glad I found this amazing park within a mile of my house. read more

Went here on October 28th, 2020, and had a pretty good time. The park itself is very nice, with all the amenities that one may need. The people here are for the most part nice as well. I say for the most part because apparently somebody brought their sick dog here on the 28th, and whatever they had apparently made my dogs sick as well. They've been coughing and hacking, similar to kennel cough, but it seems to be passing after about a week. Not sure who you are, stranger, but please make sure your dog isn't sick when you bring them to a dog park! I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and not assume that you're just some entitled person that doesn't have regard for others, but the thought did cross my mind. read more

My boyfriend and I started taking our pupper to this park a few weeks ago (we're trying to take him every Sunday :-)) and each time has been very pleasant!! Owners do pretty good job with picking up after their puppers here too so the park is pretty clean. LOCATION The location of this park has lots of street parking and is also easily accessible by public transportation. I've never struggled with parking the times that I've driven to this park! THE DOG PARK Although I haven't been to many other dog park, Del Monte has been my boyfriend's as well as my favorite thus far. The dog park has 2 separated areas for small and large dogs and enclosed by sturdy fences. There are poop bags provided and even small water fountains that you can dispense water from for your dog(s). The grass is artificial and there are plenty of benches for us humans to sit! OVERALL I've really enjoyed my time at this dog park so far. All of the dogs and dog owners that I've met at Del Monte are very kind and friendly. But the main reason why I visit this park so often is for the dog park (located right behind the children play area). -2 sections: segregated between small and large dogs (the large dog section is smaller compared to other parks) - has a foot-step water fountain for the pets to drink - green artificial turf - benched shade area -free dog bags to pick up after the pets What makes this park different? It's a park that isn't look after like it should be. Two areas in the park, one for the small and another one for the big. I have a small 12 pound Maltipoo so I was a little surprised to see several big dogs in the small dog area. I decided to just walk Simba around the park so that's when I saw all the dog poop. We the community sure be more responsible when it comes to picking up behind our fur babies. read more

Artificial turf is not something I'm a fan of but I guess it's cool if its been raining and you don't want your dog to get muddy. I think the small dog area should've been made smaller since most of the dogs just stay on side mingling and not running. The extra space should've been given to the big dogs area instead. This park has about about 6-8 benches around it. Not much shade. Besides the inconsiderate dog owners who would not pick up their dog's poop, this place is clean. Otherwise, doesn't look like there are crazy dogs or owners who come over here. The parking area is finally done. read more

This park is great for socializing your pup! We were worried our little guy, Ari, would have trouble socializing with other dogs, but a couple visits to Del Monte and he's a social butterfly! We love bringing him every week for the unofficial corgi meetups, and love seeing him run around with his friends! We love that the park is enclosed and even has a double gate system (which my husband calls the "airlock") on each side to prevent curious escapes. We feel safe in the park and love to let Ari run off all of his energy before going to brunch in downtown Willow Glen. read more

This is only a review for the new (as of May 2018?) turf soccer field (not the dog park). Love it. Thank you City of San Jose! Bathrooms on hand, which is nice if you are playing soccer for a few hours. The field is top-notch. Has 6 goals, so when it's not being used by clubs and teams and leagues, several small groups can each train with a goal, which is GREAT. Note that the field is open to the public Mon - Fri from 8a -3p. This is the best time to go if you want to train on your own or with some friends. Weekdays from 3p-10p and on weekends, it is also open but it tends to be permitted much of that time by clubs and teams and leagues, which have priority if they hold a permit for that time. I believe they also post the days/times that are permitted on the outside of the complex, so you can check there. Enjoy!! read more

Aw, it's the hood park! Love this place, cuz I live right next to it! If you don't mind the occasional homeless, this is a great park all around. Artificial turf in the dog park and areas for small or big dogs. Plenty of poop bags and trash cans. Also a real grass area to practice sports (no croquet pls), and a jungle gym for the kiddies/rowdy teens. They are also expanding it to add a multipurpose sports field in the lot next door soon. Decided to take my puppy out and let him socialize with other dogs because he thinks he's the turf king. I was looking around for dog parks near me and Del Monte was the closest. Parking wasn't a big deal, you can find them on the shoulder near the apartments. The whole park was clean and they even have a small fountain for dogs! There's two, fenced areas. One for small dogs and one for big dogs. We went to the small dog area and the dogs were all playful and getting along. The owners were friendly as well and loved playing with the other dogs. They have a benches inside the fenced area so you could read a book while your dog runs around and plays. Would definitely come back here again! read more
