Love to have a restaurant with a full selection of delicious Taiwanese drinks and food. One has to be warned before they make a visit that portion sizes are between generous to quite large, so it's important to bring a large appetite or friend when you're making a visit here. Since everything is so good here, it'll be hard not to try to finish everything you get (for example, the popcorn chicken is a box of all meat, and the bento is packed quite tight and can easily be shared between two people). The drinks here are done quite well, exactly to the special order of ice or sweetness that you desire. This is with high quality ingredients and the boba has the right amount of chewiness to it. The popcorn chicken was tender with a good crispiness to it and the salt and pepper wasn't overwhelming. The bento box is a fantastic way to try lots of different Taiwanese favorites and snacks at the same time including the tea egg and Taiwanese sausage. The pork rib was marinated well and quite crisp. Overall, great food and drink make this a spot I'm excited to visit again in the future. What a cute neighborhood spot! Went with a group recently for a post-dinner light dessert and am so happy to have discovered this shop. The interior is cozy and not too loud- it seems perfect for either studying or a casual get-together. Guests can order on two self serve-machines- I actually appreciated this system because there are SO many amazing & interesting options, with ample customization! It was so hard to pick just one flavor, but this time I opted for the Peach Lychee Tea (less sweet). It was a generous size and came with lots of juicy chunks of peaches and lychee bits. This drink is one of the most addicting teas I've had! At least on this particular day, the teas came out fairly slowly, so it may be best to plan on ordering ahead. I love Taiwanese popcorn chicken and they do it so well here. They also offer other food options like rice bowls which looked yummy. Their boba variety is great and they typically have new featured drinks. I tried the guava tea and added lychee jelly - it was sooo good! I like my drinks sweet so i enjoyed regular sugar. If you don't like your drinks too sweet, i would recommend doing less sugar. Service was quick and they have a few seats inside. It would be a nice spot to get some work done too! I really appreciated the discount code that I got from the restaurant after my previous review of the service. I wanted to try something new, so I ordered the fried chicken bucket set that comes with two drinks. You can pick from a nice selection for your choice of drink, including milk tea with boba, and you can pick a spice level for your chicken. Overall, the meal was nice, albeit inconsistent. For example, I ordered the less spicy chicken. As you can see from the picture, the spice level is basically the amount of chili powder sprinkled on, and there was great variation in them. Some pieces of chicken got no chili powder on them, and others were amber-red and caked with it. Ironically, there weren't any pieces that had a little amount of spice. The flavor was nice though, sort of a cumin and soy Xinjiang vibe. The chicken bucket also came with two pieces of corn, which were unfortunately dried out and overcooked to the point of being inedible (see pictures). I think they had been left way too long in an oven or warmer. I also think they could have benefitted from some seasoning, perhaps a glaze. The drinks were good, though. I got a grass jelly milk tea and the Assam milk tea with boba. While it wasn't a perfect meal and the dessicated corn made me sad, the service was good this time, so I did appreciate that. Great customer service! I rely on Hello Jasmine as one of my go to place for Taiwanese food as it is low in supply in Chicago. I'm reviewing based on my recent experience. I doordashed a couple drinks and I realized there was no sugar or ice level adjustment on one of them so I called into the store. They had already made my drink but were happy to change the drink to my specifications. Good customer service will always have me coming back! The boba milk tea is pretty good as well for. I think the pricing is still pretty decent for boba tea shop. I finally tried some hot food and it was flavorful, the taiwanese fried chicken leg flavorful thru the entire meat - well seasoned. I ordered on the kiosk, but it took a really long time for the drink to come out. It also came sporadically as well (we ordered four drinks in total). My drink had these clear boba things (kind of like the lychee jelly consistency) that were much better than the dark boba. read more

I had never had Taiwanese food ever, until I came to Hello Jasmine. And there are two spots, this one by DePaul in Lincoln Park and the other is by Southside Chinatown. Needless to say, this is much closer to me and Lincoln Park is a great place to spend time. As for Hello Jasmine, their food has great taste and crunch and value. I like how the bento boxes provide a whole egg and fried tofu and cabbage and sausage with a ton of rice. That's a great deal. For my main protein, I really enjoy the fried chicken steak, it's typically a generous size and try to have it immediately so you can enjoy that crunchiness with each bite. They have varying degrees of heat so I just have mine mild with sriracha sauce on the side. They have appetizers and milk cloud drinks to quench the heat and your thirst. There's ample parking in the neighborhood and out front (on Webster), on occasion. I will continue to compare and contrast Hello Jasmine with Lisa's Night market in Niles - I think both have similar good tasting food. I visited Hello Jasmine today for the first time, and I certainly enjoyed my meal. Originally, I was planning to take my order to go. Thanks to things slowly opening up as that darn Covid thing is getting more and more controlled, there were actually a few tables available for dining in, so I decided to eat my lunch right then and there. It was early (before 11:30 AM) so there was not too bad of a crowd yet. Once I placed my online order via my cel, the young lady behind the plexiglass said that my order should take about 20 minutes. The wait did not seem too bad, as I sat at my table and heard the sizzling noises in the back, a sure sign that my chicken steak was being made to order for me! I would eventually noticed a steady stream of peeps coming in to place orders or to pick up their food to take away. The smallish interior is cozy and colorful, and there is a washroom in the back. I am not sure if it was the food or if I was just hungry, but my bento box featuring chicken steak was delicious. The pieces of chicken were very tasty and the crunch was just perfect, but I also enjoyed every element of the loaded bento box. There was white rice, sausage slices, tofu cubes, soy sauce egg, bok choy, pickled mustard greens, Taiwanese kimchi - that's quite a variety of food items in a colorful little bento box. I am not a fast eater, but I seemed to gobble up this lunch fairly quickly even while dining with wooden chopsticks. Yelp turned me on to Hello Jasmine thanks to a promotion, and after my tasty lunch today I'd sure like to come back sometime to try a tall cool boba beverage. read more

I participated in the Yelp Elite Experience at Hello Jasmine the Lincoln Park location. There were 2 reasons why I did not like ordering through the website. There was no section to add notes. I did not want sauce on the rice, but, I did want it on the side, and there was nowhere to request this. There also was nowhere to request a specific time to pick up your order. My confirmation stated that my order would be ready for pickup 10 minutes after I placed my order. However, it would take me 30 minutes to get there, I called the restaurant to specify a pickup time. Having to make a phone call negated the reason for placing an order online. When I entered the restaurant, there was no greeting of any kind. I was there for 10 minutes until someone asked me if I wanted to place an order. When I told the employee I was there to pick up an order, they had a hard time finding my order. There were 4 employees behind the counter and my order was actually sitting on top. I ending up ordering 2 of the Special Braised Pork Over Rice Bentos. We really liked these. The meal is very well balanced and filling. Everything in the Bento was delicious. The Pork was very tasty, the Bok Choy was cooked perfectly , the pickled mustard greens were crispy, the Braised Tofu and the Stewed Soy Sauce Egg were delicious. I have been dining from here for over three years and, as a boba fanatic, I can confidently say this is one of the top places in the Chicago area. Ordered delivery and it was very fast. The food arrived at my house still fairly hot. I sampled a pork rib bento box, fried beef dumpling app, 3 piece chicken wings, and a dragonfruit Yakult green tea. I dug into the bento box first. First of all the packaging is so charming. Very "Asian" aesthetic in mind! It made me think of cute animals turned into cartoons despite the fact I was about to devour them. The pork was very well cooked and incredibly flavorful. That first bite really impressed/surprised me! All the other items in the box were good too. The tofu and soy egg were nice additions. The dumplings are a great app! You actually get a really big portion with a big side of dipping sauce. I think they would go over well in most households. The chicken wings... let me tell you about the chicken wings. What I kind of expected was a "buffalo wing" sort of thing, but these chicken wings were drumsticks that you could probably bang drums with. Like, college marching band sort of drums. They're huge! Very well cooked and the crispy coating is divine. I speculate that the poor chickens were pumped full or steroids to make em that huge. It's worth mentioning that I ordered all these regular "spicy" level (you can choose how little/lot you want) and as a spice lover, I would rate it a little less than spicy. It's an Asian restaurant so I expected more spice, but it was still quite nice. If you really like spicy food, just go all out. The dragonfruit tea was good. I'm not usually into these sorts of drinks and not privy to the little idiosyncrasies that make a tea good or bad. Perhaps I should've tried one of the milk ones, but this one threw me off a bit. The smell I couldn't quite pinpoint. Was it like Granny's house? A shampoo I used once? An ex-girlfriend? I don't know!!! I tried this place through a Yelp Elite promotion which gave me a $12 discount. Because of the $20 minimum order, my total was still pretty significant. Well always in search of good Taiwanese food I really wanted to try Hello Jasmine. The straightforward part: easy street parking in the neighborhood. Always a plus in Chicago. Best part: the food. Ordered cold noodles with chicken and braised pork bento box. Both were excellent and well worth the drive to get there. So why only 3 stars? Well I really hate small businesses that take their customers for granted. If I want that I would go to big chains but I don't because I want to patronize locally owned shops. Why this rant: 1. No greetings when entering or exiting the shop. No acknowledgement you even exist. 2. You have to order at a self ordering kiosk. The kiosk took a few minutes to "wake up". Not really a friendly customer practice. The kiosk had a few handwritten post its notes stuck to it with a list of sold out items. Not really efficient as many patrons ordered stuff that was sold out as they didn't read the post its. This would not happen with an actual person with a smile taking your orders. 3. Dirty tables with no one cleaning them between customers and no supplies available if the customer wanted to clean its own table. So yep the food is good but better customer service would go a long way to make the experience enjoyable. Customer acknowledgement and interaction would be a good place to start. read more

Well, well, well, well, well... Look who decided to show up to the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Helllloooo Jasmine! It was during one of our family walks around the neighborhood that my wife had noticed this spot and got all excited and wanted to come back later in the day. Oddly, they're closed on Saturdays... WHY?! So ended up coming through the next day, Sunday. Definitely a popular spot, regardless of these pandemic times we are currently in. But having opened recently, they had a special buy one drink, get one free. (Maybe that's why there was a crowd?) Price wise, great deal and you can't argue with BOGO. What's not to love. Drink quality, excellent! Tastes like a cup of some of Taipei best. Drink quality you can customize sweetness to your liking, and the boba... not sure I can ever say I've had boba consistency that compares to what you can get in Taiwan. So there, pretty damn good. Peach oolong tea This was my first time trying milk tea. It tasted like peach milk tea. The peach flavor was the perfect amount. It was not overpowering at all. Passion fruit tea This was only $4 for its regular size. We got this with mango jelly and it was AMAZING! The flavor of both the jelly and the tea complemented each other perfectly Popcorn combo This came with white rice, popcorn chicken, bok choy, egg, and kimchi. This box had so much food and the presentation of the food was perfect. The chicken was seasoned well and everything in the box complemented the chicken. Tempura balls This tasted like a burst of tempura with a little kick of spice. The seasoning and the meat was cooked great. It came with 6 balls, 3 on each stick. Chicken steak This was our favorite. We got this spicy and it was the perfect blend of spices! The pieces were thick and I will definitely be coming back for this. We ordered thru a kiosk which was straight forward and Easy! My favorites are: - the mango smoothie - taro milk tea - coffee boba shake - grapefruit fruit tea - strawberry milk cloud (which can be vegan!) You really can't go wrong. So happy that one of the best bubble tea shops in Chicago opened up another branch! The vibe here is quite similar to their Chinatown location but with less seating; there aren't any real tables - just some high-tops and a bench (for now, at least). One thing this branch has that the Chinatown one does not have is Instagram-worthy wall decorations. Bubble tea: excellent! When you have multiple branches, the key is consistency and they nailed it. The assam black milk tea is delicious and the tapioca pearls are perfectly chewy and sweet...can't ask for anything more than that. I will say the tea was a tad sweeter than I expected at 30% but still not overly sweet. I'll definitely be making a return trip very soon.
