We had a group of 38 today on Boat "T" with Captain Mike. It was AWESOME!! Our group came up to Medford for a ASA Softball tourney and one of the mom's scheduled us for a group evening dinner trip. Everyone had a blast!. The boats were very exciting with the combination of high speed and big waves, the scenery all along the Rogue River on up into the Hellgate Canyon was incredible, and the meal at the OK Corral Dinner Lodge was outstanding! We saw several types of birds, deer and even a Bald Eagle along the way. Captain Mike was a great host and full of information and humor! We will definitely return for another trip next time we visit southern OR. ---and forget wasting your money on the cheap $0.97 Wal-Mart ponchos, a little water won't hurt you! read more

3.5 stars for this one. We took the quick and scenic 2 hour ride which turned back as soon as we reached the hellgate canyon.. but I guess other rides which were longer could have been better but we didnt have the time to do them. I think they should make it more clear on their ride descriptions how much of the actual canyon you are going to see. That being said, the driver was an extremely fun guy and entertained us throughout. He also did some amazing 360 degree turns on the way back which was almost worth the trip in itself, just wish we saw more of the canyon. read more

Totally COVID COMPLIANT! We were celebrating a big anniversary and booked the dinner run. Everything was fabulous! Craig was our boat driver and was a delight as he regaled us with fun stories, much excitement and laughter! His jet boat navigation was astounding! On top of all of this, due to the current COVID crisis, they insisted and required masks at all times! It was reinforced, barriers were in place and sanitizing was evident! So for the negative reviews regarding negative Covid protocols, they do all humanly possible. If your that fearful, stay home because the water my melt you! Amazing time!!! If you're ever in Grants Pass, OR you can't miss it! Unless it's in the winter and then it's probably not an option, because you get soaked! A tour guide (PJ was ours and he was great!) takes you up the river and you see lots of beautiful views, wildlife and crazy people squirting you with massive squirt guns! Once you're at the turn around point you dock for lunch before heading back. Lunch is served in a beautiful rustic cabin type open dining area along the river. It's served similar to communal style where they put the food on the table and you serve yourself. The meal was a three course which included a really nice garden salad, then they brought barbecued chicken, potato salad, rolls, corn bread and the desert was a Marionberry crumble with fresh whipped cream. The only issue I had was the communal dining only works if people understand the concept of sharing and/or the people participating are not between the ages of 5-9 and have no adult supervision. The people seating us put children at the head of the table and the were double dipping, eating directly out of the whipped cream and God only knows what else. Plus, love kids, but not wanting to take care of and entertain while the parents drink....yes, the serve alcohol too. Finished dining, headed back down the river and BJ did not hold back on the soaking! Wear sunscreen, don't bring anything you don't want to get wet or put it in a baggy and have fun!! read more

This excursion was WAY better than any ride at Disneyland. Every member on the crew was friendly and professional. Mike was our Captain and not only entertained us; we got our money's worth when it came to spins and splash stops! It was great to get drenched on a hot day. :) We did the lunch tour and it was perfect; he service was good and so was the food. Served family style, it was a nice setting to make some new friends and share stories. Aside from curious and hungry wasps (yikes!), it was GREAT. Great time on the 2-hour cruise this afternoon with JT (not sure) as the captain" giving us multiple 360 spins and thorough and happy soaking us (I was in the front row!). I have done this excursion many times and it is certainly beautiful. However, the reason for the two stars is because of their lack of customer service. I attempted to book a trip for my company of over 100 people but never received any response from them. I left multiple voicemails for the person in charge of groups and none of them were ever returned. Finally after a couple of weeks, I sent an email to their general email address on the site and received a form to fill out for booking a group excursion. I sent this in on July 10th and as of July 29th have received no response. Kind of strange considering 100+ people x $75 is over $7500. Business must be good. read more

This was our second time on the jet-boats. The first time was several years ago and we did the dinner tour. This time we just went for the 2 hour tour with no meal. Both were great. Both times we saw some great wildlife, including bald eagles. The boat driver/guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. My two daughters LOVED the tours too. When in Grants Pass this is a must do! All three star's goes to the boat pilot "Captain" we just got back from the mother's day brunch. They tried something new with wrist bands and it was a disaster. Our boat was over 30 minutes late getting out as were the rest. The boat ride there was fantastic! But when we got to the lodge ounce again a disaster. Waited again for a very long time to get seated then when the food comes there was no where near enough. Two plates per side of bacon like four pieces per plate and six sausage links very little potatoes one small biscuit per person very little scrambled eggs and like one small peace per person of lemon bread per person. Small plate of fruit. One of each item on each side of the table. The boat ride on the way back was FANTASTIC! don't think we will do a meal again. Think we will stick to the white water trip next time. read more

This rating is for a Spring fast and scenic ride (no meals). Personally I do not recommend riding in Spring. The weather is way too cold, rainy and windy to be riding on a river. My husband and I only did this in early May because we were taking a road trip from CA to OR and my husband's went on this ride in July several years ago and loved it. Anyhow, the weather was freezing and everyone was bundled up in jackets. At check-in I asked if we would get wet, because the reviews said you would, and I was getting worried. The staff said the front seats barely get wet, so I decided to sit up front. The check-in staff were very friendly. Then we spoke to the driver at the dock and he said we wouldn't be getting wet, due to the weather. I appreciated the consideration. We boarded the boat and set off. Because it was Spring, and few people were crazy enough to take a river boat ride when it's freezing, rainy and windy, we took a small boat and it was only half full. Due to that reason we were not able to go full speed. No jetboat experience here... we were going fast, but not nearly as fast as we could have on a large, full boat. We saw quite a few wildlife, including eagles, turkey vultures, hawks, osprey, and loads of ducks and geese. The ride was a good length. Although it was cold out, our driver managed to squeeze some spins in, and those were really fun. We sat in the front, so the centrifugal force was strongest there. We didn't get wet, so that was much appreciated. Halfway through the sun started to peek through the clouds, and it got warmer - hooray! Then we neared the canyon and it started drizzling, so we didn't get to spend much time in there. The ride was fun, and the driver was very friendly and considerate. He was constantly checking up on us and making sure we weren't too cold, or that the speakers weren't too loud, or that we were comfortable. I recommend taking motion sickness pills if you have a tendency for motion sickness. I felt a little ill while we were bobbing up and down by a bridge looking up at swallow's nests. That abated when I stared at a still point (the base of the bridge.) I will come back in summer, when the boats are larger, fuller, and can go a lot faster. My husband came in July and they did lots of spins, sharp turns, and got drenched, which was welcome in the hot weather. He did the dinner ride, so he got dinner at the restaurant halfway through the ride. We will look into doing that in the summer time. :) read more

Jetboat ride was awesome! Our guide was Craig and he was great! Fun to see the beautiful Rogue River with some of the wildlife. (Constructive criticism to the staff ... lots of elderly folks who struggled getting in and out of the boat. It would be so nice to see a staff offer assistance vs. only watching them struggle.). Anyway, we did the Brunch excursion. And that is where the rating drops. We were a party of two and were put at the end of a table. We were not asked if we wanted anything other than water or orange juice to drink (and got that only because it was on the table when we arrived.). Felt extremely ignored by our server. The food was served without serving utensils which is kind of gross and it was luke warm. Potatoes were overcooked to the point you could not slice them with your fork. Lots of ketchup drowned the overdone taste. By the time the small serving dishes of eggs arrived to us the eggs were almost gone. So we felt like we were left with the scraps. Throughout our meal the table was crammed full of empty serving plates, glasses and fruit boards. Really hated the set up. A Buffett would have been so much more practical allowing us to sit at the countless vacant tables vs being squeezed in amongst best large groups. If you take the meal out of the equation, the experience would get 4-1/2 to 5 stars. read more

It was a very hot day but I didn't expect to get drenched over and over again . We booked our family of six at the last minute ... thankfully they had an opening. We did the Brunch ride. The morning ride out to Hellgate Canyon was indeed quite cool. Be sure to wear a jacket with a hood (your baseball cap WILL fly away!). Our boat engine experienced a bit of a problem but our driver, Craig, was very professional and calm and within 15 minutes had the problem resolved (small-sized piece of wood). The Brunch was very good but must admit that we were all disappointed in the reconstituted eggs that were served. What's with that Hellgate? Definitely showed that Hellgate is trying to cut costs but serving reconstituted eggs isn't the way to do it. read more

I thought this would be a little redneck tourist trap type of adventure that would make my kids laugh. It ended up being the best darn thing we did the entire two week camping trip in Oregon. I would totally do it again. The kids had so much fun. The adults had even more fun. That is not taking anything away from the fact that this really is a very tacky rednecky tourist thing to do. It was a hot day, we got sprayed with water the whole time, we laughed our asses off, the food was totally OK, the setting was breathtaking, and the river was amazing. This is one of those rare touristy things that is totally worth it. I would not count Disneyland on that list. I'm a real snob. I hate Disneyland. But I would add Hellgate to the short list of touristy things that you really have to do at least once in your life. Niagara Falls and Alcatraz are on my very short list. I am visiting family and wanted to surprise them with a river trip while I was here. The store is very cute, such nice little gifts for all occasions along with souvenirs of all kinds. Most of the staff was so kind and helpful. The young girls behind the counter took their time to explain my options and delighted my many, many questions with a positive attitude which is a nice change from most places these days. I however left without making my reservation and I will not be returning. I refuse to support a a business that berates their staff, especially in front of a guest. While I was getting information from the young girls behind the counter, a woman stomped down from what I believe was upstairs and yelled at these girls, using profanity in front of me. She completely interrupted my time and I was shocked at the language that came from her mouth. "Answer the GOD DAMNED PHONE!!" she said and she stormed off upstairs. I never heard a phone ring and by the looks on these young girls faces neither did they. It was rude and completely unprofessional and uncalled for. Local or not, I choose to not support a business that treats their staff so poorly. read more

The boat trip was wonderful. Our driver was the best I've ever had. The scenery was great the weather was great and when we got to the OK Corral the food was spectacular. My husband and I are both army veterans and we were celebrating our 2 year anniversary. The only bad thing was when we were done we looked at the picture that was taken of our boat and we could not see ourselves in the picture so we did not buy the picture. This is our 2nd time doing this tour. The first was the scenic 2 hour and it was a teaser to,the white water 5.5 hour excursion. Our boat Pilot was L.J., first ask him how to tell a male and female Eagle L.J. is a fun and knowledgable guide. Oh and mad driving skills, since there was a ton of rafters on the river. You can really tell the boat Pilots have a passion and love what they do. Now to the fun! From,360 spins to keeping us all well hydrated, L.J. didn't disapoint and kept it,fair,not favoring one side of the boat. Lots of hype for a glorified thrill ride....with some real dangers. That's our conclusion after taking the 2.5 hour "scenic" tour. Sadly, 2.5 hours is only long enough to get you to the edge of the scenery, because most of the tour is taken up with stunts and stops at relatively unremarkable points in the river. The tour ends at the Hellsgate Canyon, which really IS extraordinary, but I'd have been thrilled to head straight there, spend more time in the Canyon, and then return, rather than have the simulated excitement of a whole bunch of boat tricks. The "tricks" are the focus of this tour company. They do a bunch of spins, sudden stops, and sharp turns, all with the explicit goal of getting you wet. (I thought the warnings about getting wet were because the spray was incidental to the tour...but it's actually the point of the boat ride.) It's kind of fun for the 6 seconds the stunt lasts, and then you get to just enjoy being soaking wet and freezing, which (for me, an admitted wimp) took a lot of enjoyment out of the trip. And we were out in the afternoon of a hot day! While the tours are promoted as a chance to see wildlife, all we saw were a few birds -- osprey, herons, and an eagle -- which were lovely but which we didn't need a boat trip to see. Perhaps this varies by season, but my hunch is that the wildlife viewing isn't REALLY the focus of this tour company, although they do have quite a patter with various hokey animal stories (one of which incorporates a not-too-subtle hint to tip your boat operator). Our biggest concern: life jackets. We wanted to put our kids in life jackets for the ride, and looked under the bench at the start of our tour, but the only life jackets were for adults or infants. We asked the operator and he seemed completely unconcerned, simply joking, "we've never lost one in 8 years". He said the adult life jackets were "one size fits most" -- but there is no WAY our kids would have stayed inside one of those enormous life jackets. So if something had happened, our kids would have drowned. And despite their assurances, it's not hard for me to imagine a kid getting into trouble: there are plenty of kids seated at the edge of the boat, and I can easily imagine an inquisitive 6-year-old (like ours) leaning over the edge to see if he can touch the water during one of their spins, and falling in. Even if that risk *is* minimal, we're trying to encourage our kids to see life jackets as a mandatory part of any boating or waterspout activity, so having an operator joke away a life jacket request is extremely unhelpful. Frankly, I'm astonished that they don't require kids to wear life jackets for the whole boat ride -- and I'd be even more astonished if it's legal to have kid passengers but no kid-sized life jackets. If you're in this for a ride rather than actual nature viewing, don't mind getting cold, likes the idea of a 2-hour glorified log ride, and aren't worried about water safety, enjoy! Apparently there are a lot of people in that category: otherwise I can't begin to understand all the great reviews. read more

My wife and I kicked off a week of travel around Oregon in mid-June with a jet boat brunch tour. The night before we checked in with Hellgate, enjoyed dinner at Taprock Grill and stayed at the adjacent Riverside Inn. The area has a great vibe overlooking the rogue River, and it was very convenient to be so close. From a distance I thought four hours might be too long but it went by quickly and offered interesting sights along the way as well as the impressive jet boat experience. Hellgate Canyon was fun to see, the River Lodge is beautiful and the abundant brunch delicious. And it turned out that our timing could not have been better since rules regarding Covid for being relaxed, we missed the week of rain before, and missed the big heat wave just afterward. read more

FUN! They take 5 boats at a time with 60 people in each boat. You sit in rows of 6. My boyfriend sat by the edge and got splashed with water several times - he-he! We had a very entertaining tour guide (you are supposed to tip them at the end of the ride when they bring you back to shore). He spun us around about 8 times! We went on a dinner trip - they fed us really well - the food was great and it came with white wine, beer, lemonade, iced tea and water. you could ask for additional items too. Unlimited refills on everything - included in your ticket price. The OK Corral was beutiful, well kept, and they told you exactly where to sit when you got there. There are 5 excursions that you can take with Hell Gate and the fastest one is the White Water one - I haven't been on it, but I asked around and was told that it's super fast and exciting. The meal is not included with that one. On our trip, we got splashed with water several times, so if you don't mind getting a bit wet (it dries off fast, because you are going fast), it will definitely be an experience not to miss!!! Excellent!! We absolutely loved everything about our adventure. We saw the great reviews it had on Trip Advisor and planned to check it out. My husband, daughters (ages 13, 10), and I chose the Brunch Tour. Craig, our driver, did not disappoint. The ride was fabulous! We saw Bald Eagles, osprey, deer and Canada geese. The scenery was stunning. When it was time for brunch we were thrilled to be served a delicious feast of fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon, cornbread, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, orange juice, champagne, cider...phew!! There was PLENTY of food. We were stuffed!! I swear the food was delicious!!! We didn't have to wait to be seated, either. Our seats were reserved for us (I liked the attention to detail). After eating we headed over to the river and the kids had the chance to wade in it. Everyone was having such a great time. The ride back was super fun, too. It was perfect weather for getting wet on our way back. There were people of all ages laughing and having a great time. There was even a baby on board! We had traveled from California, making several stops along the way. All of us agreed that this excursion was the highlight of our trip. We had gone on a Hellgate Jetboat excursion in about 15 years, so we were very surprised at how much it had grown. We had a brunch trip reserved so our boat was leaving at 9:15. We arrived just a few minutes before our appointed time and the place was packed. We had to squeeze into a parking space and quickly check in. After checking in we were directed where to go and get in line, and again shocked at how long the line was. We waited a few minutes and the load process began. They fit about 60 people per boat and had about seven boats. We loaded in the last boat and were lucky enough to get a front row seat. After a fun and somewhat leisurely ride down the river, we stopped at the OK Corral for a brunch. It was good food - rolls, biscuits, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage - with orange juice, sparkling cider and even champagne for the adults. We had our fill and then jumped on the jetboat for the ride back. This is when the fun kicks in. The ride back is when the pilot speeds up the boat and even races some of the other boats. And when there is a nice wide space, the boat does a 360! Left and right, the spinning is the best and gets a nice spray over the riders. Getting wet is refreshing when it's a nice, hot day. Overall the trip took about 4 hours, with 90 mins for brunch. This was one of the highlights of our trip and we look forward to going again. it is perfect for all the family, from little kids (we had a 3 year-old on our boat) to the elderly and handicapped. My boyfriend planned a surprise date for us and the jetboat and dinner excursion was what he picked. We ended up doing a double date with his mom. This is by far the most fun I have ever had doing anything! Also the best date of my life so far. The jetboat excursion was so much fun and our boat driver Mike was amazing! He was so funny and he could tell really good stories!!! The boat ride was so much fun. The boat went super fast and I was having some issues keeping my eyes open to enjoy the view, so next time I'm bring sunglasses. I definitely recommend bringing some eyewear. Besides going fast, Mike also made sure we got drenched when we were or weren't expecting it and it was awesome! The ride there was pretty mellow on the getting wet front. About 1.5 hours later we arrived at the lodge for dinner. It was served family style where the entire table would pass the food around. I personally liked it because it made sure you would talk to your neighbors. The food was good probably could have been better but I'm not complaining because there was tons of it and I was stuffed when I was done eating. Dessert was super yummy!!! Blackberry cobbler!!! After dinner, we walked back down to the river where the boats we parked and I noticed there was a blackberry bush right next to us so I picked some berries and ate them right there. The ride back was crazy!! We did 360s in the boat and the boats would cause waves for other boats to soak everyone. Our boat had a little girl in it and an elderly lady celebrating her 90th birthday so the trip is for everyone. Definitely bringing a change of clothes or get something to cover you up a bit. I brought my phone with me to take pictures and would put it in my purse when the boat was moving. There is a cubby where the life jackets are that stays dry so I stashed my bag there.
