We visited Hellgate Jet boats in Grants Pass during a recent two-week roadtrip and it was easily the highlight of the entire trip. Absolutely put this on your schedule when passing through. There may not be a whole ton of exciting things to do when driving on the 5, but this is one of them!!! They have several different options, from a 1 hour, to a 4 our tour. We did the 1 hour as we were traveling with a 10 and 4 year old, and weren't sure how the 4 year old would like it. Plus... it is kind of pricey. That's the one drawback... but it's one of those things that is worth the price. This isn't your average sleepy boat ride down the river... this boat goes FAST!!! Not the whole time of course... but when it goes fast is a highlight. But the true highlight is when they're going super fast down the river and then do donuts!!! I saw the videos online and was a bit nervous if my kids would like it or if it'd be too much, but they LOVED it!!! They wanted even more donuts! You also get to see some pretty cool wildlife on the tour. We saw two bald eagles in the wild. Our driver was also a pretty awesome emcee. It was kind of like The Jungle Cruise with the one liners, which I enjoyed. We'll definitely be going back here, and will definitely be doing one of the longer tours! I'm not sure we can afford the 4 hour tour, but darn, I'd love to do that someday... If you'll be staying the night, stay at the nearby The Lodge at Riverside or The Riverside Inn, sister hotels that both have paths leading right to the dock. read more

We made reservations online for the 4-Hour, 36 mile dinner excursion from Grants Pass. Out of the six in our group, all but one has done this before. We arrived at the departure facility a little before 4pm. It is basically a store where you can purchase all kinds of items related to the excursions before and after your trip. We were directed to the docks where there were a lot of people gathered, both coming and going. We proceeded to line up on the path to the docks where we completed the release forms and received our wristbands. We had the pleasure of riding with Craig, a 17 year veteran with Hellgate, who told us we were on the newest boat in the fleet, the Summer Run II and that it has three 6.2L raptor engines delivering about 1400 hp total. Each boat seats about 60 people with about 6 to a row in about 10 rows. These are not small boats. The boats seem to go out in groups and I think our group consisted of 3 or 4 boats. We proceeded downriver towards Hellgate canyon. On the way, we were treated to some local history and Craig did spin outs and abrupt stops to get us wet and show us the capability of the boat. The surrounding topography changes drastically as you approach Hellgate canyon. It becomes a tight canyon with walls almost straight up. It has been featured in films including, River wild and Brewster Cogburn. After visiting Hellgate canyon, the boats return a little back up river to the river lodge where we were served a family style dinner with salad, cornbread, biscuits, cheesy potatoes, BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs and marion berry cobler. Including beer, wine, lemonade and tea. They also have a semi-stocked bar with other drinks or beer for purchase. The food and drink is nothing to write home about, but hits the spot. After dinner, we boarded the boat again to get even wetter before getting off at the departure facility. We would recommend trying this at least once. You will likely not get that wet. It is mostly like spraying water. I took video with my phone and managed to keep it dry. read more

I'm barely dry now and trying to figure out the last time when my fun meter spun off the gauge. Our cruise down the Rogue River was later in the day and included dinner. The boats are 39 ft and hold 30 - 40 passengers. Four engines seem to propel them at any speed that the Pilot wants. There are antics that the Pilot can perform one boat but the best are using the wake of a second boat. Holding your phone for a photo or a video while these are going on is going to put your phone in peril. Down river is where the dinner is served in a huge rustic log cabin chalet. Our boat captain was an excellent guide and based on his insight on the area, I was ready to start house hunting. We had been on a jet boat excursion before in Miami so I was ready to get soaked since that's what happened but in this case you will get lightly sprayed not soaked. The 1 hour is scenic with a few 360 turns along the way. Booking online was convenient, and the staff was super nice except for the end. We walked into the shop to buy a few things and approached a cashier who acknowledged me, patiently waited for her to ring me up but I could tell that she was having difficulties with the phone call reservation because she kept having them repeat everything and she turns to me to say, I'm on reservation it's going to be awhile...should I try another cashier? Sooo much FUN!!! Best Experience ever!! We had the most awesome Boat Captain/Guide - Brady. Brady is a master at navigation, safety, and the most fun, all at once. Couldn't ask for a better Captain. He could splash other boats better than they could splash us too!! He could spin us in circles fast, and we felt totally safe. You can bring a small cooler. I wore a swimsuit. Most didn't. This was our 2nd trip, so I knew we'd get wet! Wear a suit or spf quick dry clothes. Sometimes you go slow, sometimes you FLY!!! It's invigorating, but not uncomfortable. I had had abdominal surgery 3 weeks prior, which somehow had slipped my mind. But I got the go-ahead from my surgeon. We just sat in the back row, against the wheelhouse. That served several purposes: supported our backs, kept the Sun off our backs, and protected us from getting wetter from the sides and back. Oh, we still got wet, Trust me!! But it was very welcoming - over 100 degrees out!! Breathtaking scenery, fresh smells, wildlife galore - we saw 2 bald eagles, a huge Osprey nest, several white egrets, medium sized turtle, a family of deer, beaver dams, other bird species, and more. The lodge where we had dinner is huge. It sits atop a grassy hill on at least 10 acres, at my estimate. Food was AMAZING!! So was the service! Plus all the wine and beer you could drink, included w dinner. Finally, this wonderful 4-hour dinner cruise happens on the Rogue River in Grants Pass, Oregon. A must do activity if you're in the Grants Pass area! We did the dinner ride and thought the trip was worth every penny. We were in the largest boat with about 88 people aboard. They sat 8 per row in our boat and 6 in the small boats. If you want to get wet, be sure to get a seat on the side. Wherever you sit you will get wet though not totally drenched. The ride was filled with a mix of tricks, sightseeing, and bird watching. The ride out took us into the beautiful canyon. Dinner was family style bbq which included wine and beer. You could buy additional drinks at the bar. Each table was well stocked with water, lemonade, ice tea, wine, and beer. The servers were attentive and happy to grab more of something if we ran out. The food was good and filling. The ride back was filled with tricks and spins and synchronized tricks with the other boat. I wish they worked more of this into the first half the trip but overall we had a great time! read more

We were here in May during the first weekend they were open for the season. It was really cold so it's smart to check the weather and dress accordingly. I'm glad I had layered up since it felt colder once we were in full speed. Luckily, there were only a few spinouts so we didn't get wet. My husband and relatives said you get really wet when it's much warmer. I've never been on a jetboat, and it was a fun experience to explore the Rogue River views. I thought it was mainly for newbies, but about half of our group have been on the tour before. It was nice seeing different wildlife mostly birds and various greenery that I'm not accustomed to seeing in Southern California. Our guide was informative providing history tidbits and fun facts like where The River Wild was filmed. Seeing Hellgate was my favorite part. Compared to the rest of the gentle cruise, the water was a little rougher at Hellgate, which made it fun and exciting. If you plan to take photos, I recommend bringing a waterproof pouch with a strap. Around halfway through, we stopped enjoyed a delicious AYCE champagne brunch. I ate more than I should have, but the biscuits and gravy, bacon, and other breakfast items were yummy. The kind staff was readily available to replenish our food and drinks. I would do this tour again especially with warmer weather. read more

If I could go lower I would... these guys fly up and down the river and have no regard for wildlife or public presence. I have lived here in grants pass for years and I'm fed up with it. You guys don't slow down for people in the water fishing.. you don't slow down for small boats or anyone!! I was fly fishing this morning and you guys about knocked me off my feet. Came within 15 feet of me and many people on board saw the whole thing. On the day that I joined the excursion with a corporate group from my work, we had a full boat and we launched at the same time as another boat, providing for some friendly "competition" with the other boat and plenty of splashing. The guide/pilot did a great job pointing out wildlife and describing the variation of water levels throughout the year and history of a couple of sites on the shores that we passed. Make sure you go on a hot day; the return after sundown can make for a colder drive back wherever you are staying as you will get soaked or splashed; bring water shoes if you have them and some splash proof ponchos if you want to be remotely dryer by the end of the excursion. Four of us just did the two hour tour last Friday and I have to say it was spectacular. We had Bo and even though the boat was really fun and exciting Bo made the trip even so much better. He was hysterical, shared so many funny stories and gave you so much information about the area. I would highly recommend getting on his boat if you can. We saw bald eagles, saw a mink, met a ton of fun people and just being on the river was beautiful. It truly was a great time. We had two teenage girls also and they loved it. I believe they are done for the year because the river is too low, but check them out starting next May. We were in the fourth row and got soaked! Enjoyed the trip. We did the dinner trip and were happy we did. checkin was a but sucky, but the boat ride was good and the dinner very nice. My biggest regret was that I let my travel companions talk me out of bringing my windbreaker. I got soaked on the return trip...not just a bit wet from the spray. I had to empty out my wallet and let it dry overnight. I've taken this trip and Jerry's at the mouth of the rogue in Gold Beach. If I had pick only one, I'd take Jerry's because the scenery was better. That certainly isn't the fault of the operator. Hellgate's food was better. read more

Very disappointed with the gift shop! I purchased a tank top last night, didn't fit. Went to return next morning and the manager said we don't take back clearance items " it says so on the receipt ". We had an unbelievable experience today on the sightseeing and brunch jet boat excursion. Our pilot, Greg, really helped us to experience the Rogue River on an amazing level. If you have guests in town, a Hellgate jetboat trip is always a hit. I've done the dinner trip many times and it's always a lot of fun. The Rogue River and scenery are so beautiful. It's possible to get quite wet during your trip, so plan accordingly. The family style BBQ dinner is tasty and my guests have always enjoyed it. Keep an eye out for wildlife during your excursion. Our family was doing day trips in Oregon when we stumbled across these jetboats. We book the 1 hour trip and it was awesome! We would highly recommend this for you or your family. They did a great job from communication on their website ahead of our visit, to booking the reservation, to helping us when we arrived and getting us and our son who is physically disabled on the boat. We personally enjoyed Kelly our captain and the historical facts about areas along the ride. All of us rated it a 10 out of 10 including our 8 yr old daughter who was terrified to go. I can't believe how this has gone down hill.....This in years gone by was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. The boat ride was fine, the problem was at the restaurant......!st be aware you are NOT allowed to set where you want to be........If all of your party's ticket are not purchased together...YOU will not set together for dinner. We were late landing at site & were given just a small amount of time to eat......very limited servers,we had no silverware,1 bowl of salad for all the people,short on apps.very poor dry meat...overall HUGE disappointment about spending fathers day....never again read more

We just got back from a 4 hour excursion with dinner June 22, 2023. Our guide who came from Florida, Booker I think his name is, was absolutely great. He had exciting stories and choose ALLOF US in the boat to play along with his humor. He made us feel like family. He was an excellent driver of the boat and spun it around A Lot!!! We all welcomed getting wet and he even paid attention to keeping us safe. All the boat drivers this evening took the time to stop at wildlife so we could take pictures and when they saw people fishing, they would immediately slow way down. They always took in consideration for what was happening around them be it wildlife, fisherman, or kids standing close to the waters edge and when other boats were in the area and would stop or go very slow by them. We all appreciated their kind hearts to do that. We all are going to take another excursion and we are requesting BOOKER or BROOKER, anyway, the guy from Florida! Yes, he's our man and made it a very fun adventure and that is him behind us in one of the pictures we attached!!! We had been told there were bees around the dinner food but tonight, we did not see a one. The food was great and we had a lot of time to walk around the beautiful grounds. Did the 2 hour Jetboat excursion into the Hellgate Canyon. The scenery was beautiful and enjoyed the ride. It was a full boat and had to sit toward the back. If I had to do it all over again, defiantly would sit in the front. Way more to see up front and you will definitely get wet. Only docking a star because of the weird plastic partitions they put up due to COVID-19. read more

This is the best excursion for anyone in the area. We go every year and although it is a little pricey it's definitely worth it! I really recommend the dinner trip but all of them are wonderful! You will get wet! I bring a change of clothes for me and my kids in a backpack and change at the lodge before dinner. read more
