Dr. Duncan was listed on my healthcare provider list. I left TWO messages without a return call about 6/7 days apart. The voicemail said the Doctor was out of the office on the last few days of January, however my calls took place mid February. On the 3rd & final attempt about 2 weeks after the initial call, someone finally answered the phone. When I told the woman who answered that I wanted to set up an appointment with the Doctor for medication management she immediately asked what my insurance was. I stated Blueshield PPO. She asked me if it was through Covered California or LA Care. I stated Covered California. She immediately told me that the Doctor hasn't taken that insurance since January 2017. I asked if the doctor had a sliding scale and she told me that the first visit was $300 and that rash initial visit depending if it was 15min or 30min was $125-175 cash only. I rate this zero stars on customer service and zero stars on trying to offer help to someone who obviously needed some medical attention. If a person is calling seeking help & treatment... don't be rude. You could obviously be the last person that the ill were speaking to, and they could be in serious need, to the point that may have taken this call personally and have taken their own life. Dr. Helen Duncan is a wonderful doctor. She not only prescribes the drugs that help me with my depression, anxiety, and mood instabilities, but she also LISTENS. This is very rare in a psychiatrist, whom usually just prescribes medication. Both my husband and I see Dr. Duncan (separately) and we are BOTH so satisfied with her, that, even though we have moved over an hour and a half away, AND she no longer accepts our insurance, we still continue to see her. Dr. Duncan is not just a 5 star physician. She is a 100+ star physician. She is a warm, caring intuitive woman. I have been under the care of other doctors who felt that I was "bothering" them with my depression. You will leave feeling heard,comforted, and validated. Her choice of meds for me was right-on. I should've written this review earlier, Dr. Duncan has been a life saver for me. She is so patient and listens intently and intuitively when I need to see her. She constantly checks in with me and is careful not to over medicate. She has been extremely patient in finding the right medication to help me get through some very dark and tough times in my life. I am now thriving both personally and professionally. I truly appreciate her and am grateful to have her in my life. I can't say enough about her office staff as well. Her staff has always been so kind and accommodating when it comes to scheduling as I often work odd hours and days and need to change appointments frequently, they always make sure to get me in. Dr. Duncan truly cares about her patients and their welfare, she always keeps lines of communication available to her patients and that is rare these days. read more

I am appalled by the lack of professionalism of Dr. Duncan. I have never waited so long consistently to see a medical professional. Today's visit was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was rescheduled from Tuesday because she was running over an hour late on that day, so today, I signed up for her earliest appointment thinking that there was no way she would be running behind. She was 50 minutes late. In that time, two patients got up and left. Every appointment I have had has been at least half an hour late. In my opinion, this is no way to run a medical practice. During my previous session, she took a personal phone call from her daughter. I would not in good conscience refer anyone to this doctor. read more

First I want to say I take this review very seriously. When I came to Dr. Duncan, I was extremely unwell, suffering through a severe depressive episode coupled with off the charts anxiety. While I have always struggled with depression, it had always been manageable by taking a fairly low dose of a particular anti-depressant and to this day do not know what caused such a severe uptick. Upon my first meeting with Dr. Duncan, I was so bad off she said she wanted to take me out of work and speak to my long-term and trusted therapist right away to discuss the best course of treatment. While I declined to leave work, I gave her my therapist's information and signed all the release forms in order for them to speak. She never called my therapist. She then put me on a new anti-depressant and once we found I tolerated it, she started to take me off the previous one. That is when everything went haywire. I did so poorly going off my previous medication that I was absolutely terrified. I do not blame Dr. Duncan for this as it is something that can happen with anyone while trying to find the right medications and doses. What I do blame Dr. Duncan for is being completely unavailable to me during this time period. The visits I did have with her, she said she wanted to speak to my therapist and promised each time to call her that very day. Not once did she call. My therapist then took it upon herself to call Dr. Duncan twice- with no return calls. Dr. Duncan said she would be available to me via email while trying the new medication. She did not return any of my emails in which I was begging for help because I was doing so poorly and was so scared. I did receive one return email, marked 3 weeks after my very last email (by which time I had already decided I would not be returning for obvious reasons) where she simply said to go back on my old medication. I also (as someone else on here mentioned) experienced extreme wait times at each visit, sometimes waiting up to 40+ minutes after my appointment time. This is not helpful for those who are balancing work hours. I didn't write this review for a long time because I was reticent to put such personal information online, but this was such an amazingly bad experience for me during probably the scariest time of my life, I felt I should probably share it. I did not deserve to be let down and frankly felt abandoned by my mental health physician during a real time of crisis. I was fortunate enough that my primary care physician took over my care and medication while he found me a wonderful psychiatrist who I believe saved my life. Proceed with caution. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Duncan for several years. She is perceptive, empathetic and caring. She is also good with med's but doesn't overmedicate. I had to wait over a month to get an appointment with her the first time. It was worth it. She also referred me to a really good therapist. read more

Dr. Duncan put me on the right path to saving myself. After a trip to the ER because I was seriously having morbid thoughts and wanting to end it all (on top of having a major panic attack where my SO had to pick me up from work), we determined that I needed to see someone about my mental state of health. I don't remember how I settled on Dr. Duncan, but am so glad I did. I've been a patient of hers for a couple years, and have since "graduated" from needing further help. The reason for the five star review despite no longer seeing Dr. Duncan is the fact that she not just recommended medication to treat my issues but also a book: "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes, which ultimately steered me in the right direction to correct my health naturally through changing my diet and lifestyle. I no longer need medication to regulate my mood, and although I am not fully at goal weight just yet, I did regain my regular period cycle and am down 50 lbs. so far. Plus my mind is more fit than it ever has been, and I attribute some of that to the guidance provided to me by Dr. Duncan. I would highly recommend Dr. Duncan if you're in the market for a psychiatrist who has the ability to heal, not just take your money and prescribe you meds for life. read more

Helen Duncan is the most amazing woman. She genuinely cares about her patients and makes you feel fully comfortable confiding in her with zero judgment, which is a problem I have had with other psychiatrists. She is so accommodating to your needs. She will do whatever it takes to make sure you are getting what you want. One time, I told her I liked the fake plant she had in the corner of her office and she picked it up and gave it to me. I love her. Highly recommend. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Duncan highly enough. She is personal, professional and extremely knowledgeable. She is able to quickly arrive at the right diagnosis and to implement an effective treatment plan (including medication) that has been highly effective. She was particularly good when I was in crisis, and now 2 years later I have been stable, happy, productive and living life fully. On my many visits to her office I have occasionally had to wait 15 or 20 minutes while she finished with another patient. That's not unusual for any doctors office, and I certainly don't mind given the quality of care I receive - which was life changing. read more

Dr. Duncan is compassionate and caring and has improved the quality of my life tremendously. She is not a talk therapist but rather an excellent MD who will explore your concerns, mental state, whatever that may be, and who can determine the appropriate treatment, making adjustments as needed. At follow-up visits, I've been pleased that she asks pertinent questions and seems to focus intently on my answers, unlike some doctors I've had in the past who seem to forget half of what I've already told them.
