This is not sushi. Everything is cooked. Very disappointing and gross. Sushi does not belong in the microwave covered in cheese. When I addressed the nasty food, the owners yelled at me. Worst experience at a restaurant ever. read more

My husband and I had Heiwa's for dinner tonight via Postmates, and we definitely won't be making an in person visit. We shared a volcano roll, and it was the oddest presentation we've ever really seen for sushi. The toll was barely rolled together at all- instead all the ingredients were just tossed in the container together. Normally I would have thought that was because we got delivery, but none of our other food was tossed up so I really don't think that was it. The crunch on top was burnt in some places and uncooked in other places. I had the wonton noodle soup and couldn't even get a bite down. The broth and the wontons were completely tasteless- and like the sushi, the wontons weren't put together well at all. The one I tried fell apart as soon as I scooped it onto my spoon. In addition to that, the broth itself was about 50% oil. I don't think I've ever had a soup where so much extra oil was added- you don't need oil! The broth is supposed to cook the ingredients. Our apartment still stinks of oil from when I opened it up about an hour ago. My husband had chicken teriyaki with white rice. It was fine, but nothing spectacular- I guess it's difficult to mess up chicken and rice which is probably why it wasn't as bad as the rest of the meal. read more

We had Eel and Salmon sushi. Both were fresh and tasty. Also, ordered a Dragon roll with crab over tuna, small seating of 8-10 tables. A Ma and Pa place that provided good quality service with decent sushi at a good price. read more

Holy cow this place was the BEST teriyaki chicken I have ever had. The best steak teriyaki I've ever had. The best shrimp sauce/yum yum sauce ever. The best edamame. My boyfriend and I were visiting from Nashville and I loved every single bite. They prepared the food basically in front of us and were quick with drink refills. They also offered a delicious Japanese beer, Sapporo. Definitely give this place a chance because the food is out of this world! read more

This is a cute mom and pop kind of restaurant that I was recommended by another store in Savannah. Since I came here for the first time a few months ago, I haven't been able to stop coming back. (Even though I've moved much farther away since.) Their Yakiniku Steak is my favorite thing on the menu, but everything here is very fresh and delicious. I even like the grilled veggies that come with the plate, which is saying something for me. Everyone who works here is really nice, and the restaurant is usually a quiet and relaxing lunch spot. The food is also excellently priced for Japanese food, (which I eat quite a lot of) and I'm always happy after eating here. read more

I am not sure why Savannah cannot muster up better Asian restaurants than it has, but I continue to be very disappointed here--from sushi to Thai to Chinese. The sushi, in this case, was only barely passable, lacking flavor, and while fresh enough to be safe to consume, not fresh enough to be tasty it seemed. The staff, which seemed to consist of the owner and his wife when I caught them early into the dinner hour, were nice enough but but seemed nearly mechanical in their actions, only interested in their work because such was their duty. I ordered several sushi rolls and the owner/waiter returned shortly to inform me they were out of yellowtail and to pick something else, which I did, but I wanted my yellowtail and that's a pretty standard fish to have on hand at any sushi bar. Again, the sushi at best was just unremarkable. The interior of the restaurant looks as if it has seen better days, too. They seem to have a decently diverse menu and maybe when it picks up later in the evening with more customers, they place seems lively, homey, I don't know--maybe the gyoza is really good as other reviewers have claimed, but I found my sushi very lackluster. read more

What a wonder place! Service was so great. The owner even had customers show up suprising him for his birthday singing with gifts, wine and cake! Says alot about how much he cares for his customers. Not to mention the food. He made everything to my specific taste no extra charges for adding and taking away what I didnt like. Great place read more

Not fancy re: atmosphere, but wow, some of the best sushi we've had since living in Savannah. I'm picky on "fish to rice ratio", and they nailed it with generous fish vs rice portions. Owner is incredibly nice and friendly. We'll go back. read more

Doesn't look like much but a neighborhood place. Food was flavorful and delicious. I ordered the spicy tuna avocado salad and a sushi roll. Both were great! My husband had the spicy shrimp noodle stir fry and it was tasty and seasoned just right. read more

This is really local with the owners on site every day. Both are skilled chefs. It's reflected in the quality of their food. The Teriyaki is perfect for a quick lunch. If you have time, their sushi is always fresh and delicious. read more

Yuck! Pass on this. Used to go here regularly years ago when I lived in Savannah and it was great. No longer true unfortunately although one of the original owners is still there. The food quality is POOR! They used to take pride in their products but now the shrimp were tasteless and like rubber. Amazing service by the wonderful couple running the place, they were very enthusiastic and kind, my husband and I stopped here and had the Heiwas roll and Tootsie roll, they were so incredible had to get another tootsie to go! Food was decent. Positive experience, was thinking about eating there more often until the ordeal with paying my bill. Disliked: female server worked with me until she left briefly (assuming to run an errand). A male working the front desk gave me my bill. I paid with my credit card. As I handed my slip back to him, he said he discounted my bill. The female came back (I was seated near the door) and a short time later she came asking me for more money. I said I paid the bill I was given. She explained he didn't charge me correctly. I felt awkward and instead of making a scene, I paid additional charge - luckily I had enough cash. I did not ask for a discount or expect it. But when you tell a customer you discounted something, do not come back asking for more money. It is bad business read more

My wife and I love this place. Excellent service, excellent sushi, and excellent entrées. All for a very reasonable price. The entire staff is friendly and accommodating from the minute you walk in to the moment you leave. They are always willing to add on to sushi and throw in a free soup or salad here and there. The place seemed very clean as well, so perhaps the "roach" reviews are outdated? I urge you not to base your decision off of those, because you won't find much better sushi in Savannah. read more
