Kudos to Heirloom for doing a great job catering the after-party at the Deadline Reality TV Summit on very short notice. The primary grazing table was decked out with a wide assortment of non-typical, and very appealing, meats, cheeses, veggies, dips, mixed salads and all manner of crostinis. Everything I ate tasted terrific, and was utterly fresh. The only drawbacks: serving utensils were small and fragile, and the display may have been a tad too artistically crafted for the type of crowd, which attacked the freebies like Survivor's castaways hitting a hotel buffet after 40 days on the island. Things got really chaotic really fast. But how was Heirloom to know the guests wouldn't be quite as polite as expected? Their bar had a nice selection of wines, and their house Diablo Margarita hit a pleasant balance of sweet and hot. The absence of soft drinks aside from sparkling water felt like a misstep, though the organizers may have opted out re price. Passed small bites were equally creative and tasty, from shrimp skewers and falafel to samosas and some others. Also on site was a soft-serve ice-cream cart, dishing out several flavors to order. The staff was friendly and chatty, and kept both food and drinks moving at a clip. While the situation wasn't perfect, I feel like Heirloom did an excellent job overall, and that any misfires could easily have been attributed to circumstance and decisions from the organizers rather than any shortcomings on the part of the caterer. I had the opportunity to try a few items off of Heirloom LA's menu as they catered our virtual education event. As part of the menu we were served a four course meal: small bites to start; a garden salad filled with mixed seasonal greens, radish, tomatoes and other fresh vegetables; the entree consisted of a delicious mushroom risotto and a braised short rib with root vegetables (beef harvest); and lastly a butterscotch & salted caramel pudding with whipped creme. We were also served their watermelon agua fresca. Everything came prepackaged and was served in separate containers to our offices. Everything i had that night was delicious. The beef harvest, which was cooked in red wine was flavorful and tender. The risotto was al dente just like it was supposed to be. The watermelon agua fresca was not overly sweet and was a nice touch for the warm weather we were experiencing. The winner off the menu was their dessert! I am not a big fan of butterscotch or caramel but their dessert won me over. The pudding was not too sweet but well balanced. The crisp on top added a great texture to the pudding. Even though I was full from everything that was served that night, I made sure to make room to finish the dessert. It was just that good! The caterers/servers all wore masks throughout the process. Everyone adhered to the COVID-19 safe food practices recommendations. Overall, it was an amazing experience getting to try their food. This place should definitely be considered if you're looking for fresh foods straight from organic farms, healthy eating, and meals individually packaged. I love food trucks! With that being said, I noticed the Heirloom-LA truck parked right outside of the Everson Royce wine store/bar. I ordered the lasagna cupcake and the vegetarian tacos. I thought the lasagna cupcake was a little pricey... but it was bigger than I thought it was going to be - still for $9 (I think it was), a little high. The crispy tacos were okayyy... I originally reached out to Heirloom for a 4 day catering production. Brian was really patient when our 4 day project ended up getting cancelled so we were scrambling to fill something in to shoot. We ended up using Heirloom for 1 day for our last day of shooting on location in downtown LA. What a great way to end our last shoot day! Food arrived on time (I believe Josh was our driver). He was helpful with setting up, gave us chafing trays/sternos to keep food warm, although it was already fresh/warm when it arrived. We had just about 30 crew plus 5 talent and food was plentiful. Crew even took leftovers home. We went with the Chicken Harvest, Braised Beef Harvest (was the big winner among our crew! We're getting two orders of that next time lol), spicy broccoli, fingerling potatoes and a Harvest Salad. Everything was also accommodating to our gluten-free and vegan crew members (except the chicken and beef of course). WOW!!! I cannot say enough about the amazing food that I had the joy of devouring with wine-induced abandon at Silverlake Wine on Sunday thanks to the culinary expertise of Heirloom LA!!!! I had first found Heirloom-LA thanks to Silverlake Wine and their Sunday wine tastings. I just about freaked when I heard that they'd be doing the food again for this last Sunday's tasting to go with 4 amazing Hirsch Valley Pinot Noirs. The food was OUTSTANDING!!! Fresh!! Flavorful! They are a company that creates amazing unforgettable experiences around food. Their team (Matt, Kasey and the on-site team led by Chris) is first rate and from the minute you engage them you get the feeling that they are as excited as you are for your event. They are organized and efficient and truly want to take care of every last detail. Their service is flawless and when they leave, it's like the event never occurred. Everything is perfectly clean and remaining food is incredibly well packaged and placed in your fridge. We entertain a fair amount and have hosted events in New York, London, Miami and Los Angeles. On the day of our Christmas party, our caterers canceled... as you can imagine, we were in a frenzy looking for somewhere else. I called Heirloom-LA and immediately was ready to place an order with them. We needed to pick up food for 50 guests in 4 hrs and she had no problem. Heirloom LA catered our brunch wedding November 2018, and we had an amazing experience with them. Kasey was great to work with leading up to the event, and helped us design a great menu. I changed my mind a few times and made some last minute changes and they were patient and easily accommodated. I am vegetarian so I was really grateful for the many vegan/vegetarian options, but my husband said the spare rib lasagna cupcakes and bacon were delicious. Also, the french toast was definitely a crowd favorite. The food was amazing! My boss was uncertain about having our guests eating out of catering tins, but when he saw the beautiful way the drop off chef (can't remember his name, but he was quite amiable and a master of displays) arranged the food and the presentation within the tins, he was totally blow away. Usually I ask caterers to come an hour in advance as downtown traffic can be tricky and construction nuts, but he showed up 5 minutes early! (angels singing in the background). Honestly I loved them so much and after checking out their blog I am pretty convinced I would want them to cater my wedding. After we paid $150 for our tasting we were so ready to sign a contract even though they were definitely higher than any other caterer we met with. Was ready to write a 5 star review until I emailed and emailed and couldn't get a response. First had to hunt down the updated estimate with changes from our tasting, then sent a few questions I wanted answered before signing a contract and never heard back. Weeks have gone by and multiple emails have been sent and not a peep. As an event planner there is NO WAY I'm contracting with a vendor that can't be bothered to respond to my inquiries when I'm about to lay down some big time cash. Super annoying...and makes me super sad....because the short ribs were seriously delish. (3.5 stars) While I have not tried Heirloom's catering services, I was able to find a nice selection of their refrigerated food at Silverlake Wine. I decided to pick up some of their pasta and make it at home. Their refrigerated pasta is the same setup as the kind you would find at a grocery store. That grocery store pasta can be a little mediocre, but Heirloom's pasta was pretty tasty. The beef short rib agnolotti was very good. The pasta shells were tasty and not too thick and the beef short rib center was very good--meaty, tender and savory. The wild mushroom ravioli was also tasty though the pasta did not hold its shape as several of the ravioli pieces came undone in the boiling process. I also picked up a sauce (a saffron parmesan cream sauce), which was not that great. The sauce had a parmesan taste, but it was very buttery and oily. While I would probably just opt to make my own sauce next time, I would not hesitate to grab more of their pasta if I stumble across it again. The one negative (at least at the Silverlake Wine store) was that the pasta was quite expensive. While the quality was good, I would definitely shop around to find a better price. read more

Cupcakes are probably the most annoying thing in the foodie scene these days. Mainly because cupcakes are essentially difficult to make anything but good. Yeah, some can be dry and some may have weird fruit stuff in them, but for the most part a cupcake is a cupcake and only on TV do people go to war over them. While I have gotten bored of seeing a cupcake truck enter the scene, the cupcakes at the Heirloom truck are anything but normal. They chuck out the tired dessert scene and they do savory cupcakes... well, cupcakes in just about name only. But you tell me where you can find a Lasagna cupcake? Yeah, that's right. a cupcake - made out of that lazy cat's favorite meal. Ooh yeah. The price is, on face value, a bit high when you look at it on paper.. or in this case on the board. But for what you get, you're getting your monies worth and then some. These suckers are heavy. They also have Veggie options. There was a pumpkin lasagna that was really tempting me away from the beef option and to do that, you have to really look appealing. We recently worked with Heirloom LA for our wedding that was this past April, and we couldn't be more pleased with our decision. For my husband and I, the only things we cared about were - location, food, photographer. Everything else would just be bonus/filler. It didn't take too much researching to stumble across Heirloom's blog, and we instantly fell in love with their ideals, passion, and presentation. We set up a tasting with them quickly thereafter. I want to say the tasting was $100 for the two of us, which went toward the bill if we decided to use them. We then enjoyed a private dining experience of tons of food, all of which was absolutely delicious. We had so much fun enjoying their food, laughing with them, and talking about local produce, farm fresh food, etc. We left stuffed, with lots of food wrapped up as leftovers, and with the knowledge that we wanted them at our wedding. Their vibe just suited us. The process was great. Please know that they are extremely busy. They always emailed us back in a timely manner, but if you are one of those brides that expects an immediate response, you gotta chill out. They'd call us if there would be something on their food truck that they thought we should try, and they were very patient with us constantly changing our minds. We later went back to try some of the specialty cocktails they thought up for us. Again, it was a great time, and they made spectacular drinks. As a couple, we decided to give them some creative freedom. They obviously know what they are doing, and we wanted them to do their thing, and it was completely worth it. Wedding day was a complete success. Everything was beautifully presented, and I'm pretty sure our guests were knifing each other to get first crack at the appetizers as they came from the kitchen. The dinner and drinks were phenomenal. Our guests are still commenting to us how they've never imagined having such great food at a wedding. They've said, "Usually you just expect it to be edible. If it's good, that's a bonus, but the food at YOUR wedding was AMAZING!" I'd highly recommend working with Heirloom! Everyone's raving about Heirloom as a caterer, so I'm sure they must rock that department, but as a food truck competing with all the other LA food trucks, Heirloom does not measure up. This review is purely for the lasagna cupcake. Do not get it. $9 for a measly lasagna cupcake? I mean, sure it's cute, but wow...if you're going to charge $9 for a cupcake-sized lasagna, at least make it good! I got the sausage lasagna, which should've been the tastiest option, but it was terrible. I expected delicious italian sausage, not 2 measly slices of some hotdog wiener. And there was not enough sauce at all. It was dry and under-seasoned. Plain pasta does not create fireworks in my mouth. read more

Heirloom catered my 30th birthday. Every SINGLE part of working with them was a pleasure. One of the owners Tal coordinated the entire thing with me through email and was always prompt to respond and answer even the silliest of my questions. We hired a chef from Heirloom to prepare the food in our home. The presentation was out of this world. My guests were totally blown away by how beautiful the food table was set up. And the food- it was AHMAZING. People actually commented that they went back for fourths! The stand-out was the mac and cheese lasagna cupcakes but honestly everything they prepared was mouth watering good. I can't say enough great things about the wonderful experience. It is rare for businesses to exceed my expectations- Heirloom LA absolutely did. read more
