Cynthia Brooks did my niece's bridal shower that I hosted in my home. The food and service was excellent!! They were able to do a fancy setting with china and crystal. We had hors d'Oeuvres that they passed and then a plated lunch. So elegant my niece and all our friends have not stopped talking about it! We're so glad we found Cynthia Brooks Catering. Firstly, and most importantly, the food at our wedding was fantastic. Food is one of the things that guests remember the most about weddings, and Cynthia Brooks delivered a delicious and memorable dining experience. They were also incredibly easy work with. Characteristically, our wedding had a large number of moving pieces and things changed constantly during the planning process. Our contact, Konstanten, was incredibly patient, responsive and professional throughout the entire process. He made us feel at ease that everything we needed would be taken of and that our wedding would be a success. We also appreciated that they have a diverse range of rentals that we were able to use or have them get for us without our needing to go a different vendor. All-in-all, they provided the food, appetizers, mocktails, flatware, silverware, glassware, serving equipment, table linens, serving staff, and bar service. Their staff also did all the work to convert our ceremony area and set it up for dinner service after the ceremony. The only things we provided, because we wanted to, was all the alcohol, mixers and garnishes. I attended a parent function at a school where they selected Cynthia Brooks as their catering provider. My wife opted for the chicken entree and I chose the vegetarian option so we could experience more of the variety this service had to offer. Our first course was a delicious salad with tossed greens, various crushed nuts, and a few crumbles of bleu cheese. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the greens were crisp. A variety of warm dinner rolls were also offered, and I was pleased that they had a variety of different breads to choose from. I was not expecting much from the vegetarian dish but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The presentation was beautiful where the dish was coated in a delicious marinara sauce. The entree itself was a tower of ingredients, consisting of a polenta (cornmeal) foundation, followed by a large portobello mushroom. Upper layers consisted of various mild peppers, eggplant, squashes, and onions. I tasted some small samples from my wife's chicken entree. The chicken was moist which is a big plus given that chicken breast is usually dry from catering services. The mashed potato was also good and not overly creamy. Overall I'm pleased with what Cynthia Brooks had to offer. I would have enjoyed my vegetarian dish a little more if there was a way to incorporate a little more protein into it (e.g. quinoa, beans, etc) so that it would be a little more filling. read more

Leading up to the event I worked with Loni and she was very helpful when it came to organizing the event. We had many changes we wanted to make up until the week of and she was very accommodating. NEVER use Cynthia Brooks for a wedding!!! I recently used her for my wedding at Castle Green in May and they were awful. Cynthia herself is nice but everything else about her business is horrible. The week of our wedding they notified us that they were going to be using PLASTIC CUPS at our wedding... so they made us cough up an extra $1,500 that they had not informed us about. I'm sorry but if you have ever gotten married or have any friends that have - the last week is the most stressful and the last thing you need is your caterer jacking you and informing you that they will be using plastic cups at a wedding that you already spent $30K+ on. The food was cold on the day of our wedding, the meat was dry and the servers were old and had attitude problems. Luckily, the only problem at our wedding was the caterer and I would advise anyone thinking of using Cynthia Brooks to find someone else. I was more than displeased with their lack of professionalism, bad service and unacceptable quality. Hands down... I would NEVER use them again. read more

Cynthia Brooks Catering was the preferred caterer at my venue. After my initial meeting with Cynthia, I felt I was in good hands. The food was tasty, the staff knowledgeable and the price very reasonable. Unfortunately, that only lasted until my deposit was paid. All of a sudden there were new fees related to my venue, new items I would need to rent and rules that didn't seem realistic. The staff was not as friendly and on the day of the event, they were down right rude! My biggest issue with this caterer was they did not fulfill my biggest request. I had two entree meats on my buffet. I called and emailed multiple times to make sure my guests would be able to enjoy both choices when they went through the buffet line. And then I spoke with Cynthia about it directly to triple check. To my dismay, I had guests tell me the buffet servers would not serve them the second meat choice. Even worse, they embarrassed the host of the party by refusing to serve her when she asked for it and as other guests watched. Additionally, Cynthia and her team tried to tell me they could not serve alcohol for my entire event because it exceeded the legal time limit. Totally bogus! If you are going with this caterer, please get your liquor from someone else (ex Paradise Bar or Huntington Catering Company). The moral of the story is you get what you pay for. This caterer looked good on the initial contract because their price was so low. But I ended up hiring other vendors to accomplish what Cynthia Brooks Catering could not. Decent food does not make up for the headaches and I will not be using them again. read more

Cynthia Brooks catered our wedding. From the moment I first called them, up to the day itself, every member of their staff was extremely professional, knowledgable and friendly. Michelle was our primary contact, and she is so good at her job! She handled every minute detail, from the food, to the linen colors and all the rentals, to the placement of the favors on the tables, as well as typing up our order (over and over with each change we made) and making sure all the details were correct. We had our tasting with Cynthia, and she walked us through not only the menu options, but also the many different possibilities of how to set up our venue, which they'd been to before. Cynthia's suggestions were a huge help, as the layout of the venue was a little challenging. The food was delicious. Special shout out to the braised short ribs -- several people went out of their way to tell us it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. The sundae bar was also a huge hit. I must admit up front that I have not ever used their services, so this review is strictly based off my overall impression of the business after just a few exchanges through email and telephone conversations. I contacted Cynthia Brooks because they were one of the preferred vendors recommended by the Ambassador Campus, where I'm set to have my wedding ceremony this upcoming September. Since my reception will be held elsewhere, I was only in need of a vendor to provide chairs and a couple of tables for sign-in/guestbook. While they were completely friendly through out each exchange, I was flabbergasted when I received my cost estimate. They charge a ridiculous amount for set up and delivery. In fact, labor costs exceeded the actual rental items by more than 50%, which is a hard pill to swallow when all of the competing businesses offer to deliver the same chairs/tables at a dramatically lower cost. Do the delivery guys set up in tuxedos and white gloves?!? Why are they so expensive? When I emailed to decline their services, they suddenly reduced their delivery and set-up prices for me because another party had already booked them so they were already delivering to the site (on the same day) and was essentially allowing me to piggy back my rental items onto this other's party order. Personally, I feel that this is bad business practice. Even though their labor fees are dramatically higher than their competitors, they should maintain consistency in their pricing. Ultimately, even after they knocked off $200 in labor fees, all of their local competitors were still cheaper. read more

Exceptional! That's the word I would use to describe how Cynthia Brooks handled our wedding celebration on October 23, 2021. From our first meeting with Loni to the delivery pick-up after the party - the communication was clear and constant. We knew exactly what to expect - and when we wanted to add/change something they were more than willing to do so. All of this was/is important - but what was really exceptional was the actual food including presentation. Everyone told us how wonderful it tasted and how great the presentation was. Finally, the staff was "on-point". They took care of everyone - from the bartender, to the servers, to the chef and his assistants - everyone involved helped make our celebration perfect. I actually had a great experience with Cynthia Brooks Distinctive Catering. They had great food presentation and their staff was very nice and friendly. We were married at Middle Ranch Equestrian Center and they are the exclusive caterers. Cynthia was very nice as well as her staff. They always returned my emails timely and even though I had changed my mind several times, they were very accommodating to me. We had tri-tip that was served sit-down style and everything went well. I had a day of coordinator, so I'm sure that helped a lot to ensure things were going smoothly. The food was so yummy and presented very elegantly. It was classy and delicious. They make excellent chimichurri sauce. The staff was super friendly, my husband and I were always served first so we can finish first and prepare to make the rounds to the tables to greet our guest. They also presented us with hors d'oeuvres at our sweetheart table. I had a couple of items that were not to my liking, but that perhaps could have been my fault for not understanding how table set-up works. I wanted to have the wine glasses set-up on the tables along with the water glasses to make a more grandiose presentation, I realized that the wine glasses were not set-up but only noticed it during the dinner, so it was too late. I didn't know that I had to make that request. When I had expressed that to Cynthia and her assistant after the wedding, they told me that it there was wine table service, they would have set that up, but I didn't place an order for wine table service If only I had known!! BUT, they made up for it by providing me with a refund of the difference of the wine glasses I had rented. That made me happy and I soon forgot that was a big issue in the first place. So, I think the caterer does try their best to please their clients. There will always be something that may not go right with any business, but if they try to correct it to make you happy, then they are a very good business. I recommend them and I'd use them again. We received nothing but compliments on the entire meal and the servers were personable, friendly, and professional. Cynthia also assisted us in setting up some bakery items for our dessert buffet which made it nothing short of spectacular. I may not have known of Cynthia's exceptional quality had they not been referred from my venue, Middle Ranch in Lake View Terrace. However, I would be quick to hire her services again at ANY event. My now husband & I had our tasting dinner with Cynthia & she was funny & wonderful. I'm a vegetarian and I had a lot of vegetarian friends at my wedding. I mention this because Cynthia really gets us vegetarians. Actually honestly the main reason why I decided on Cynthia Brooks catering aside from the delicious food was what she said about serving all my vegetarian friends at my wedding. Cynthia said that she felt for the vegetarians (in my case I had a buffet), because when the vegetarians tables were finally called they didn't have any food left over for them. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me at a wedding. I'm so hungry and my table is finally called & there is nothing left for me to eat but mashed potatoes. Cynthia said that her staff would drop all of the vegetarians plates directly to my vegetarian guests. So when Cynthia said this my mouth dropped, I mean no one does this or even cares about doing this. Also the Cynthia Brooks staff is excellent. The food they provided at our wedding was VERY good. Everything we wished for. We had plenty of attitude from the staff at Cynthia's office, however, when working out issues relating to the drinks for our guests. We had a very small wedding (35) and wanted to provide drinks for them, but they required a minimum of 100 people. We understood this and ended up paying the minimum of 100 people, but the condescension attached to the working out of these details was just not necessary! I did ask to speak with Cynthia herself, but was never able to get to her. I assume she knew what was happening, but I hope that she would approach her clients with a more diplomatic demeanor. read more

Interesting range of reviews. We've used Cynthia Brooks for the last five years, for a number of both corporate and personal events. We've used them in corporate settings, and at our home - which admittedly has space for a caterer to work effectivly in. First: the food has been consistently good. When an adequate and appropriate kitchen is available at the facility they use it with a chef (or two) on site to ensure highest quality. Second: when a kitchen is not available for cooking, take their advise as to what will work best, giving them some guidance on what type of foods you want. Third: my experience is that they do use third parties for table/chairs etc. rental, so expect a mark-up on your order. If you are doing a big event with lots of complexity, ask for a detailed bid on everything. This is an area where I've noticed a hefty mark-up. Perhaps OK for a corporate event, but worth questioning for "personal" events. Fourth: Venue - From past experience, Castle Green is not on my repeat list. Lots of places look good, but don't really have the polish to deliver on special events - without the help of a party planner of some sort. Fifth: Staff - broadly speaking, well mannered and well presented. They do tend to be a little older, which for me equates with experience. But they are there to present the food, not make the overall event work. So. Bottom line - Cynthia Brooks is my go-to catering company when I know that I want good food, well prepared and well presented. read more
