I wanted to share a quick piece of feedback from my recent visit to your store. I purchased a junior cup of ice cream for $3.75, but the portion was surprisingly so small -- so little that it barely amounted to a few bites. It felt disappointing, especially since it was meant for kids and even for kids it was too small. I don't think it was fair value for the price. I wound have not written down this but I got so angary they don't even spare kids. read more

This store is amazing and so unique being in an old bank with the murals, railings and flooring. We were staying in a nearby hotel and needed a few essentials. They have everything from Mitchell's Homemade ice cream, a wine bar, beer on tap, hot food bar area and then a whole grocer section. We came back the next day to try the ice cream parlor and it was delicious. We tried some breakfast pastries and focaccia. I only wish we had a kitchen so could have tried some more local products, maybe next time we can! read more

This is one of the best grocery stores in Cleveland. Great prepared to go food, kind service, clean space, fresh produce, meats, cheeses and wine. They even have an eating area if needed! If you live downtown this is the place to but your grub. read more

Heinen's is a bourgeoisie grocery store in the area with the top quality products but they have been family owned for four generations so you definitely get that mom and pop shop love with the luxurious grocery store experience. The interior is absolutely stunning with the historic touches of the former Cleveland Trust Building. They have a bar downstairs called "The Vault" which plays on it's historical theme. My friend and I were there for their award winning wine department, located on the second floor. There are plenty of fancy wines for purchase, but what we love the most is the tasting options. You can load a Heinen's Winestation Smartcard. There are plenty of clean wine glasses under the multiple wine stations. I especially liked that you can pick 1 oz, 3 oz, or 5 oz depending on how much you would like to enjoy. My friend and I both enjoyed 2 tastings of wine. For the first tasting I had the Marcarini Moscato D'Asti 2021 and for the second tasting I had The Beach by Whispering Angel Vin De Provence Rose 2021. I enjoyed both of them but I preferred the first one more. If I had this in my local grocery I would be in trouble. I would be "tasting" so much I would need to uber home. Love the concept. This Yelp listing is for the espresso bar so that's what I am reviewing here. Lots of coffee and espresso choices, a few fresh bagel and muffin choices, and a refrigerated case with lots of cold drinks and breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos that they can warm up on their toaster press. My breakfast burrito came out really good and didnt taste like a wrapped sandwich from a refrigerated case. I ordered a Cafe Americano with breakfast and it was excellent. This was originally the home of the Cleveland trust company. The three-story rotunda is topped with a Tiffany stainglass dome. Marketis beautiful, prices are fair. We purchased food that we enjoyed in the rotunda. There is wine & beer on the2nd floor balcony. read more

This place is amazing. It was recommended to us when we were trying to find a store with beer choices available by the single can. Something hard to find it appears in Cleveland. So glad we decided to drop in. First off, it's beautiful in here! The lower level has Prepared Food, Desserts, Sushi, a Deli, Fresh fish station and more. There is also the traditional grocery store isles. Need more? .... Head to the the upper level. It blew me away as did the Self-Serve wine stations which I have never seen before! You also have the ability to sit and have wine or beer by the glass. It is a bit hot upstairs though! And to find staff. I was beyond excited to try the Self Serve Wine and also greatly disappointed with how it works. If I'm loading money into a card why would there also need to be a $3 charge unless I load $20? Honestly, the card doesn't cost $3 to make. So I feel it's completely unnecessary. I don't live in Cleveland, I don't even visit often. So I couldn't see loading $20 onto a card I may never use again. Other than that, this place is great! If I did live nearby this would definitely be a place I frequent. read more

Picturesque local owned whole food which has tons of cooked and raw food at high price points. Awesome environment, 1 bathroom without stalls. Poke was mediocre about on par with most grocery restaurants. You have to microwave any cooked foods which completely ruined the taste for my purchase. Not like Harrods food mall which it's trying to be. Nor does the cooked food quality like Whole Foods in California. Incredible old bank now grocery store though. read more

Probably one of the best places to bring a casual date. You can do a stop and shop and peruse the aisles together and get a glimpse of what your life together could possibly be. Honey, will it be whole milk, two percent, or soy? Will it be grass fed cage free or an 18 count for two bucks?? You can learn if your potential pair is any good at picking produce, if they share your covetous snack preferences, and how much they're willing to spend on steak. Buttery grass fed Angus Ribeye Cap. Stop. Juicy, Marbled Wagyu ANYTHING. (They don't sell wagyu here...just saying you can get into this conversation lol) Ribeye, Hangar. Marry me. Full stop. More importantly, do they like oysters on the half shell? Are they fun drinking companions?? Crucial. When I first stepped into this place and looked up in awe of its grand stained glass dome ceiling, I thought "Jesus said don't turn his father's house into a market..." This Heinen's store is the heart transplant in the stately body of what was formerly a 1900's bank designed by G.B. Post, architect for the NYSE. It's so beautiful it almost felt like I was stepping into a sanctum. Where shall I kneel? Perhaps instead of receiving communion i will just get a fun wine tasting card and a plate of MA oysters and sit down, solemnly slurping up and washing down with a glass of Reisling. What can I add that other wonderful yelpers have not mentioned? Not much. My only tip is go, and if you enjoy wine, get a tasting card. Sashay your way around the rotunda of wines as the wine wall closest to the stair case is only the first in their installations of wines on tap. Walk around and find smaller wine dispensers that dot the second floor. You can swipe in and experience even finer wines that approach the $300/bottle mark for a tasting that will set you back less than $15. That's all I have for you. All's for you to do is to swipe right and hope for no catfish. C'mon no whammy! read more

I just loved this grocery store so much do that I stopped in twice during my stay in Cleveland. The setting is gorgeous with the round rotunda and colourful products and fresh food displayed around. I really enjoyed the coconut macaroons and salad bar and later stopped in for a quick bite of $5 sushi trays on Wednesday. This place really reminded my of Sebastian's market in my old city of London Ontario. It is s great modern use of the old classic building. I really hope Cleveland can do similar things with other downtown architectural gems that make the city beautiful. read more

SO much more than just a grocery store! Heinen's is a local chain of family owned grocery stores stretching from Ohio to Illinois but this location place is super unique. This location sits in the historic Cleveland Trust Company building that dates back to 1908. It has stunning architectural details featuring a rotunda with a stained glass dome. I never would have had the concept of restoring this building and using it for this purpose but it was genius. On the first floor under the rotunda is casual dining for their cafe' that features salad bars, a deli, grill, sushi, and a bakery. The grocery department is also on the lower level that carries local, organic foods and wellness products. The upper level has local craft beer, cider and wine as well as charcuterie and other snack foods. They offer wine and beer tastings here as well. We ate a small lunch at the cafe. I got a salad from the bar and the hubs got a pre-made deli sandwich and then we headed up stairs for brew on tap. Even if you have no need for groceries or dining, this place is a must see. read more

I love everything about Heinen's. Truly. It's the grocery store I didn't know I needed. From the hot bar, to the produce, to the health food aisle, Heinen's gets a gold star across the board. Then there's the fact that the architecture is beautiful. From the outside the store is actually pretty easy to miss but once you make it indoors that all changes and the decor alone is enough to make it worth a trip. If you're staying at a hotel in downtown Cleveland, I highly recommend visiting Heinen's at least once either for a full meal or to grab snacks or other necessities. This Heinen's was my go to lunch spot when I was working downtown this summer! The rotunda is filled with different options for a quick meal. Every time I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed with all the choices I had. You basically can't go wrong, but I was a big fan of the seaweed salad and a wrap from the pre-prepared section! It hit the spot when it was 90 degrees outside. Aside from the fast casual dining they offer, there's a deli counter, a bakery and a full grocery store. There was a pretty considerable selection. Beside the stained-glass ceiling, my favorite part of this Heinen's is the myriad of unique kiosks they have around the store. Well, this is the best grocery store I've ever been in. Taste, quality, fresh food, and great customer service. Heinen's has it all. I've stopped in twice so far and I plan to stop in many more times. I ordered a chicken bowl with veggies and rice and it was just as good as Chipotle, if not better. I really liked it. To top it off, the bowl cost less than $7! Can't wait to try another bowl. The venue is gorgeous. I love the idea of converting a historic, circular bank into a grocery store. Who would have thought? This Yelp listing is the for the coffee shop inside the Heinens, not the grocery store as a whole, so that is what I am reviewing. I live across the street and come here often. They have a loyalty system so that you can get every 10th drink free (and with no size/extras restrictions so you can make that 10th drink very big and full of syrup and toppings if you want!). In my humble opinion, the best place to get coffee in downtown Cleveland. Almost hands down. The coffee and espresso always wake me up and give me a lot of energy, and are never bitter, which I could sadly say about some other shops. A plus side is that it's fair trade coffee; if you want to buy the brand you can find it in the grocery store. Everyone who works there is very friendly. They have seasonal specials just like Starbucks, e.g. white chocolate peppermint. The sugar free syrups are really good. They have a baked goods case and I could write many ballads to Heinens' muffins. There are also usually breakfast burritos/wraps and various other small items like vegan cookies, packaged Belgian waffles, hard boiled eggs, juices, and waters. The best entrance is the one on Euclid, or otherwise you can find it by walking past the cashiers by the bakery case if you're standing in the center hall. There is no seating inside the actual coffee shop available, but you can go to the center of the Heinens and there is inside seating there. On a warm day Heinens has metal chairs and tables set up on Euclid that anyone can use. If you need to use the bathroom, there is one on the second floor, right past the register on the left. read more

W O W. This is the only time I think I've EVER wanted to give a place SIX stars. The rotunda of this grocery store is absolutely breathtaking. Heinen's manages to provide an urban food outlet while saving a historic landmark and still not charging astronomical prices. I paid about what I would anywhere. Come here. Even if you don't need food. Even if you aren't hungry. Even if it's the only thing you see in Cleveland! I stayed right across the street at the Kimpton Schofield (another beautiful and historic flagship property). Cleveland is doing it right! All we kept saying while visiting Heinen's was "why doesn't our city have one of these???" So much more than a fancy grocery store, Heinen's offers a food court style place to grab lunch on the first floor (choose from sandwiches, prepared foods, sushi, poke, rice bowls, salad and soup, and a bakery) along with the coolest little self serve wine bar and store on the second floor. My husband got a Korean pork wrap while my friend and I grabbed some sushi and we headed upstairs to get ourselves one of those awesome wine cards we'd read about. After putting $20 on a card and grabbing some glasses, we chose the wines that looked good to each of us, inserted our wine card and selected between 1oz to 5oz pours to pair with our lunch. Not all grocery store sushi is created equal, but this was actually real sushi and it was delicious. I may have also snuck many more bites of my husbands wrap than the one bite he offered. The food was good enough that I could see myself visiting everyday if we lived close enough. And the wine really made the experience. Wines range from low to high prices, but since you can get small 1oz pours nothing costs too much. It's a great way to do a self serve wine tasting or to get a fill glass of something you love, and if you fall in love with a bottle then you can purchase it in store! The upstairs wine area also had their own food selections that paired perfectly with a drink such as charcuterie or a soft pretzel. Heinen's, if you're reading this, please come to Kentucky! We were in town a couple of weeks ago for a Cavs game and decided to check out, in person, what looked like the coolest grocery store in the world on Yelp. We set off walking from Barrio with only the address of Heinen's - we had no clue what this building actually looked like. We are walking and talking and my wife stops and says, "Wow! Look at that building. Let's stop so I can take some pictures". The outside of the building has Cleveland Trust Company markings so I initially thought we were admiring a bank. I realized a couple of minutes later that this is the very building we were looking for. Heinen's is stunning inside and out. The street level has a deli, small restaurant, large sitting area in the middle, cheese area, and a regular grocery store in the south wing of the building. Surprisingly, the prices and offerings were pretty good in the grocery store portion. Second floor is dedicated to wine and beer. Purchase a wine card and load as much, or as little, cash on the card as you would like. Go to the various wine stations and get a full glass, or just a taste, of many wines. This is a great way to try new wines without dropping $30 on a bottle you've never tried. The overall wine selection is outstanding on the second floor as well. For those of you who fancy beer (Not.For.Me), several varieties are on tap and the selection appears to be very good too. The concept and architecture make Heinen's a must see in the CLE. read more

My friend suggested visiting this place for lunch. He was sure I would love it. Boy, was he wrong. I must be the Grinch of Grocery Stores. I just wasn't that impressed. It's a Grocery store in a fancy old building. That part is cool, but I found the store itself hard to get around and it was hard to find things. We never did find the elevator to the 2nd level. The Deli/Prepped food area is huge, but the process to select/buy things is confusing at best and there is absolutely no logical traffic flow. If the food was amazing I could forgive this, but my Falafel Bowl was just OK (it had way too much of a pickled salad mixture piled on top of a Falafel and Rice base) and definitely not worth the hassle to get it. If I lived near here and came on a regular basis I'd probably feel different because I'd get use to the layout and find food that I liked. As a visitor, I think my time would be better spent finding a nice place for lunch. There are plenty of better options in the area. read more

I have been a fan of Heinen's Grocery Store since I was a toddler visiting the University Heights location with my mom. I know it was always good for at least a sample of fresh squeezed orange juice, and probably some form of treat from the cashier. Fast forward to today and I am able to experience the grocer in a whole new way working downtown. It's convenient to be able to grab groceries to take home, or to stop for lunch, enjoying the many prepared food options - all done fantastically! My only complaint would be, with lines forming in multiple areas of the store it is hard to navigate at a busy time. That is a minor concession in light of all the positives. Happy to be able to add to my list of go-to's in downtown Cleveland. read more

Heinen's is known to be one of the more pricey grocery stores in the greater Cleveland area. They have recently taken up residence in the heart of downtown Cleveland (actually East 9th). They offer healthy options and plenty of kosher items. In addition to groceries they also have a delectable bakery to satisfy any sweet tooth. Upstairs is a wine drinkers haven. There are self serve automated tasting stations.....love it! You can actually try a glass of that 400$ a bottle wine before you spend your car payment on it. They have wine tasting events on Fridays (4pm to 7pm) and Saturdays (11am to 4pm). I envision summer evenings with friends having a glass of wine discussing the events of the day. This is a great and much needed addition to the downtown landscape. The only other grocery store is Constantino's on West 9th and there is no competition. I'm just adding a few more things I love about Heinen's, because I can't stop gushing. -$3 off growlers on Thursdays. I happened to find out about this one on a Thursday and just so happened to have a growler with me (they have some if you don't already have one). -Instructions for cooking meats and fish. Heinen's has a fantastic selection of meats and fish, but I've always been a little hesitant to get these because I am not sure the best way to prepare them. Heineken's solved that problem for me. Just yesterday, I went in there and got a cheat sheet on how to cook everything that they offer. -They listen. If there's a product that they don't carry, they will do their best to add it to their inventory. -They are friendly. I've only ever had positive encounters with the people that work at Heinen's. They are helpful, cheerful, and down-to-earth. read more

This place is big. This place is beautiful. This place has everything. We came for the beers on tap upstairs and also had a wrap made so we could have lunch. We are out of towers so didn't shop.....but I could see where this place would be my go-to if I lived here. All in all a great place to grab some lunch......a beer or some self serve wine. If you haven't ventured in, by all means do so. The only negative review I saw.....was someone who didn't even go inside because it was "hectic" outside. What a neat little treasure in downtown Cleveland. Now for those that know Cleveland you'll remember that it is pretty much a town in a state of constant repair. As an old rust belt city its manufacturing (especially automotive) times are long gone and the rebuilding of the downtown continues. It seems like fully half the buildings in the Gateway District are under repair or refurbishment and many of the others are being repurposed...and that is where you will find Heinen's. Heinen's is a grocery store chain in the Cleveland area and this particular one is in the downtown area (Gateway District) and it is built in an old bank building. The main lobby of the bank is a three-story rotunda and they just don't build stuff like this anymore. So here you have a neat little grocery store - sort of like a fancy Whole Foods store - centered in this wonderful rotunda filled with stained glass. The first floor here has a number of foods that you can package up and bring home or back to work for lunch or dinner...sort of a self-serve giant buffet. The second floor of the rotunda area has a wine and beer tasting area. Outside the rotunda area is the rest of the grocery store with the usual goods offered and literally hundreds of selections. Being downtown in a rebuilding city they are very aware of street peeps and the like. Security is very good and you won't find people just wandering around. It is like most downtown buildings today...good security and a very safe environment. Given the location and the ambiance, this was a neat stop...give it a try. read more

This place rocks. I live a block away from the Heinen's in downtown Cleveland, so obviously, I'm there all the time for convenience, whether it be needing to grab a quick salad for lunch/dinner (try the tropical chicken salad in their food court stations) or snagging some booze from the 2nd floor. They have weekly events at this location which is neat, and the whole second floor is used for wine tasting, drinking, and charcuterie board snacking. The service is spectacular, every single time.
