There were many Hawaiian tourist stuff but things that locals would like too. Homemade peanut butter and nice paintings. The shave ice was a small but yet huge! If I hadn't discovered Tege Tege last year, Hee Fat would be my favorite shave ice in Hawaii. And that's not a slight. This stuff will not let you down. Their real fruit syrups are excellent, and the mac nut ice cream hidden under that massive leviathan of ice is some of the best $%#& I've ever put in my mouth. It's really something. Based on my childhood experience, I had very low expectations for shaved ice. However, after visiting Hee Fat and having their delicious lava flow, I can admit that I am a fan for life. It's a weird store that's more of a gift shop with a shaved ice bar in the back. I'm not a fan of coconut but my girlfriend convinced me to get the Lava Flow with real fruit which has a macadamia but ice cream base topped with coconut, pineapple and strawberry flavored ice. They offer both regular syrup or real fruit for a few extra $- definitely splurge and get the real fruit. The strawberry was the best followed by the coconut (which tasted a bit like coffee). The pineapple and the coconut together was quite nice as well. However, what really brought it home was the macadamia nut ice cream (with real nuts!) which tasted like pistachio ice cream but better. I'm a self-proclaimed shaved ice snob. Ululani Shaved Ice in Maui is on my pedestal and today Hee Fat General Store's shaved ice just matched them. If you go to HFGS, try their POG creation with vanilla ice cream snowcapped. They have POG syrup and they also have a version of POG made with real fruit. Opt for the real fruit. Best shave ice on Kauai! We've tried numerous shave ice establishments on Kauai, most are just average at best, some better than others. However, Hee Fat is an exception - ice is soft, flavors are amazing (especially the real syrup options). We've tried melona, blueberry, mango, passion fruit, and pineapple. All are really good. Stand out among the shaved ice for 2 reasons: real fruit syrups and the amazing ice cream at the bottom (coconut macadamia was killer!). BEST SHAVE ICE!!! I think this is the 4th or 5th place on the island I've tried and I must say...this place takes the gold. I've been reading all the reviews on yelp about how all these other places have the Best Shave Ice and yes, I've actually traveled all over the island to try them (minus a few...but I'll get to them later this week) and not a single one comes close to Hee Fat General Store. I'm actually happy to be able to rave about how great this place is, which I really couldn't about the others. It is true these other places have okay to good shave ice, but definitely not the best. I had the Lava Flow today ($5)-Huge (there was enough ice to consider it shave ice!!), enough syrup (it didn't run out like some others I had), ice cream on the bottom (not soft serve), creamy from the cream top (not overly diluted cream), the ice was shaved and not hard chunks of ice (what a concept!!), and the price reasonable. On this island, it's the best I've found. Definitely worth a visit or more! It almost takes the place of my favorite shave ice on Oahu (but can't compare...these ladies on Oahu make their own Mochi by hand and add them to their shave ice). Came here twice while in Kauai this week. The service was incredible and by far the best shaved ice we had while on island. The ice is light/fluffy and you definitely get your money worth. They pile it on The service and ice flavors were so good we had to stop by here yesterday and grab another one before heading back home to CA. Ever since our first visit, my boyfriend and I have been making plans to poach the bespectacled man who works the shave ice counter for the exorbitantly-priced hipster Hawaiian restaurant we plan to open in San Francisco. Joking aside, why is it so hard to find shave ice on the mainland?? During our one week stay in Kauai, we cheated on Hee Fat once by going to Jo-Jo's in Waimea. Having to eat their pale imitation was punishment enough for straying. We figured a confection that was just syrup poured over ice couldn't vary hugely from one place to the next, but now we appreciate how much technical details affect the quality of shave ice. Thanks to regularly sharpened blades, Hee Fat's ice is as fluffy as newly fallen snow, and the bespectacled man pours just the right amount of syrup--not so little that it doesn't penetrate the ice, but not so much that your mound of ice collapses. The macadamia nut and pineapple coconut ice creams are both delicious treats to find at the bottom of your cone. We recommend the POG (passionfruit, orange, guava) and the Lava Flow (pineapple, strawberry, coconut), but you can't really go wrong here. read more

I'm with Erik H. on this. My wife and I went here on our honeymoon nearly every day after wandering in the first day just to buy bottled water. We ordered the shave ice after having gotten Jo Jo's in Waimea (which, by the way is vastly overrated). The staff at Hee Fat were always friendly and made you feel at home.
