The souliest of foods here for those times when you need a heaping platter of comfort food to bury your sorrows in. The soul food Sunday platter was amazing w/ ur choice of fried chicken/shrimp/fish served w/ side of Mac & greens on a huuge bed of sketti. It ain't cheap but u will not be hungry for sure. They have to use rubber bands to keep the lid shut cause it is bursting at the seams. 8 Large shrimp, a pile of fries, bread and yummy sauce for 20$. I also got the house punch. The resturaunt itself appeared to be in progress- there were a couple places to sit and a small room with a couple slot machines. The woman who took my order was nice and warm. The food! The shrimp were very large and fresh. The breading was crispy and not overpowered with flavor (shrimp can be overpowered easy). The fries were yummy and cripsy- although not what I would call "wedges". The meal came with a couple pieces of soft parmesean bread and a yummy sauce. The house punch was tasty. We stopped in to Heavy Plays for dinner after the boat show at the Expo and wait out traffic on I5. They must do a brisk delivery and take out business because the dining room was empty. The owner was very nice and cooked an amazing burger and wonder potato wedges for us. He hand presses his burgers and they are Heavy! If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I got the fish and shrimp combo. The portion of food I received was massive. I got 3 filet's of fish, 7 shrimp, potato wedges (that were cooked perfectly) and 4 pieces of bread. Insane portion of food and every single part of it was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I only did a pick up order but the guy cooking and preparing the meals was a genuinely nice guy. I purchased the Sunday soul food special, when I tell you the bag was so heavy (maybe hence the name), and the wonderful aromas coming from that bag almost had me pulling over for a taste. Everything was wonderful, the sketti was the best, then the chicken was cooked to perfection, and the mac & cheese was delicious. Do not go here. Wife has a nasty attitude when questioned about quality of food being served

My husband and I went into this this place to place an order. As we walked in the owner asked if we were there to pick up an order we said no that we wanted to make an order. With excitement I ask if they had a number to place an order ( assuming because of the order that was ready to be picked up) and him not knowing who was picking up the order. Do you all know because of my question this man started going off cursing at me and everything. Then proceeded to say that it was because he was going through something I guess to justify the way he just went off on me for absolutely nothing. My husband and I mostly my husband had been supporting this business since they opened. But I guess now that they have been open for a few years now our little dollars doesn't matter. And folks always wonder why black people don't support their own because more times then none this is the way you are treated like you don't even matter. This man wasn't even aware that myself along with my husband and our children had just spent the last 7 hours in the dark due to a power outage in our community. I say that to say my day was hell as well but i stepped into this establishment with a smile still on my face ready to yet again support a still up and coming business (BLACK OWNED BUSINESS) and was treated like I was dirt under this man's shoes as if my money wasn't even worth his time this man made me feel like whatever it was that he was going it was my (do you have a phone) question that caused it do what you all will with this information I just hope that whomever still decides to support this business that it never happens to you or your loved one. #shameless and pathetic read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Came in from out of town as my mother passed away. We went to order food to go. I do not eat seafood, and first off my mind was numb from my experience of my mom passing. So my hubby went on the web and looked at the menu, took a pic and wrote what he wanted exactly. That way I would be sure to get it right, plus would not have to think about it. Just go out and pick it up. Well... no good. The lady at the register was beyond rude, I showed her exactly what he wanted but that was not good enough. She still PUSHED other options, I just looked at her. She then says to me what is wrong with you??!! as rude as one can get. I said hey we are just trying to get food and yeah there is something wrong my mom passed and my head is in a fog! She just looked at me...........It was confusing to me how a restaurant owner did not know her own menu! I asked for a refund and she was the biggest B ever! I don't care if I ever go to Portland again, not impressed and the press it is getting is not good and people like her are confirming just that! If you do not want to serve a certain type of person don't be rude just say it. You do not know what any person that walks in your door is going through!
