Overall the classes are good but they cancel a lot of classes so if plan on working out there be prepared for a lot of cancelled classes.

Burn Boot Camp is the best workout in the Western suburbs, hand down. It's a highly effective…read moreworkout, efficient, affordable and a whole lot of fun! It's personal training in a small group setting. The workout changes every day so over the course of a week, even if you don't go every day, you work your entire body. Some days are strength training, some are cardio, some are both! I typically burn 300-400 calories - and the workouts are only 45 minutes long - including warm up and cool down. You can't get more efficient than that. The trainer, Grant, will help you modify any exercise to your fitness level. The equipment is state of the art and very clean. They offer FREE CHILDCARE, which is a massive benefit. My kids beg to come with me to Burn because the play room is so much fun, full of (very clean!) toys, arts & crafts and very warm and loving childcare workers. I've been bringing my youngest since she was a baby and I've always felt comfortable with the care provided. A bonus is that you can peek in on the kids through a window throughout your workout, which is great for peace of mind. I had no expectations when I joined Burn 2 years ago. To say it's changed my life is an understatement. I've dropped pounds, inches, and lowered my percentage of body fat. I have more energy than ever, a better attitude and I've made some pretty fantastic friends along the way.

I tried the free trials at 3 other local gyms that were comparable to Burn. In the end I chose Burn for the the childcare aspect, the community and the classes. Child care is huge for me because of my smaller Children. The community is great. The culture is uplifting and welcoming. The owner Robyn goes out of her way to make everyone that walks through the door feels welcomed and informed. Grant and Diane follow suit. They train and encourage all members. There are other trainers but I have not worked with them. But from what I know of the culture I'm sure they have that same welcoming and encouraging strength. The classes have different levels of difficulty and can be modified for any type of comfort level. Amy and Jackie are usually at the front desk checking people in and welcoming everyone. They have taken the time to know my kids names and also welcome them when they walk through the door. Truly this place is such a great place for everyone. There is also a sit down consultation to find where you can improve on your eating and see results of the progress you're making. I do not take as much advantage of this but I probably should. I'm not ready to give up my food but I can say I feel stronger and there has been a change to my body. I will recommend Burn to everyone I know. If you're on the fence I say jump. You will not regret it.

It's time that I "weigh in"... with my opinion of the Bulldog Boot camp - Forest Park, IL…read more I brought a group-on for forty dollars with the intent of empathizing with my daughter who had recently completed "real" boot camp. I had twelve sessions, (three times a week for four weeks). This, of course, was just a tasting of what my daughter had to go through. I'm an early riser so I went for 5:30 in the morning - which is great that health facilities are "waking-up" to those of us who like to get a work-out before work! Although, I was on vacation, (I'm a teacher). I also think that it's important to note that I'm over 50 and I have a chronic health condition - that affects my lungs, joints, and soft tissue. I was also on chemo and steroids for eight years, as this all factors into this review. When I called to register for the sessions I explained that I checked the reviews on yelp and checked out the videos and I didn't see any one like me, but I was assured that I was not alone - and I was not. There were others who had weight issues, but no over 50 woman, some close, but not so much but... ....Let me emphasize - EVERYONE WAS VERY KIND! EVEN THE OTHER "campers". My initial visit was a shock after not really having a routine program for about the entire school year. I could do NOTHING!!! BUT! EVERYONE WAS VERY KIND. So, I returned! :-) Three days for four weeks - just to hear my last name barked out... Such sweet music to mine ears. It reminded me of my high school ROTC days - I often saluted with my left hand. I was easily flustered then as well, when barked at:-) Still, the exercise routine, although very rigorous, was great to get me up and moving. I can do squats, which translates into normal life in that, I can go up and down the stairs relatively without pain and without taking one stair at a time, (this was my life as recent as two months ago). I can do push-ups, sit-ups that are like crunches, and I have more energy - I can stay awake pass 10. Wow! I used to fall asleep around 8:00 - 8:30. My daughters numbers one and two, (number three is in the army - I also have sons one, two and three - YES! That means I have six children); noticed that I have some muscle tone/definition in my arms. I lift ten pound weights everyday now. There is much more that I can do that I could not do, thanks to those twelve sessions of boot camp. Sadly, I had to stop because as a teacher there is a real threat of striking, (no, I'm not with CPS, but another district), and I could not justify paying money that could be needed later for things like food, the mortgage, utilities, gas... The boot camp rate is fair, although, I did ask about a discount, (there are discounts for public servants, police and fireman, veterans and students - not teachers). I've continued pretty much the same routine that was presented to me and it does produce results. Something that the boot camp did that I don't, is time myself. I never cared if I came in first, (which I never did) or last - which was always me. I guess I'm not very competitive. At my stage of the game I care about moving forward, (I was NEVER one for not moving - I am always busy, but busy and exercise are not synonymous - you may quote me :-) The owner always said that we were better than the guy that never gets up and does anything - that we were off of the sofa, (I rarely sit on my sofa and I don't watch t.v.). Overall, this is a great social sports fitness program for the young to middle aged adults who like competition and direction, (like from a drill sergeant - Gio, I know you're a softy and Wendy - you are prefect at encouragement and enthusiasm). Hopefully, I'll be back during a break from school, (even if we don't strike I leave for school at 5 in the morning to get to school for 6 to set up for the dears that come at 7 and then I don't leave until about 5 in the evening - I think this alone makes me a public servant :-). Carry on troops!

I am updating my review now that my first twelve weeks are complete…read more I have enrolled again in the Mon, Wed, Thurs 6:30pm Lincoln Park class. As a routine gym-visitor, this program initially tested my outdoor running abilities during the first six weeks. After twelve weeks, even with the colder weather, I have signed up to do it again. Activities vary each workout (they almost never repeat exactly) ... the workouts involve a good deal of interval running - some hills, some sprints, some beach workouts next to Lake Michigan, some longer distances (not more than about a mile at a time). Strength training is on the ground, rain or shine: push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, core, etc... with advanced versions of each. This program is highly recommended. I like the motivation of a scheduled time and group of people working together. I should add - it is no surprise that there are both low and high ratings for this bootcamp - it isn't for everyone. If you're looking for a solid workout three times a week and don't mind dressing appropriately, this is a great way to get into shape and lose pounds. They also offer a free trial week so that you can see what you're getting into. - Jason

I only dropped in for 1 class, as I don't live in the area (out of state), but if I did, I would definitely join. There seems to be a nice variety of classes offered and I can imagine they are all quite challenging and offer a great total body workout. I tried the Metabolic Circuit class and it definitely kicked my butt. The class focused on a combination of several exercises, each done for 30-seconds with a 20-second recovery in between where you move on to the next exercise in the rotation. Some of the exercises included in the class I took were skull crushers, burpees & pull-ups, weighted squat, bus drivers, TRX push-up to plank, kettlebell snatches, and a shuffle with ball slam. All of which were killer and worked out my entire body. The class began with a short warm-up, followed by 3 complete rounds of each exercise in the circuit. We finished out the class with a 5-minute challenge which included kettlebell swings, air squats, push-ups, bent over rows and sit-ups. AMRAP within 5 minutes. And of course some post-class stretching. Bill is the main trainer. He is very friendly and has great energy. Bill added some humor here & there throughout the class here to keep everyone smiling. He consistently checked in on me during the workout to make sure I was using proper technique for each exercise and helped make adjustments to my form as needed. There were two other trainers on-site as well during the workout encouraging participants and helping with form adjustments to keep everyone safe. Side note: they also offer post-workout nutrition (bars and fresh smoothies), and massage as well. **Didn't snap any pictures as I was pressed for time, and also too busy getting my butt kicked. But Bill snapped some pics and made them into a collage he posted on his Instagram, so I will save and share that one.**

Short and sweet classes (1 hour each) are led by trainers that keeps you moving and burning some serious calories. The Metabolic Circuit class totally kicked my butt the first time I went. The class is set up so you do 30-seconds of an exercise, 20-second recovery through 10 exercises. That's one round. Bill, the owner and one of the trainers, will push you through 3 rounds and then a finisher, which is sure to wear you out. (Battle rope for 3 minutes, anyone?) The boxing classes are SO GOOD. I should note that these classes are boxing fitness classes - this is not a boxing class were you'll end up fighting someone. Most work is done on punching bags, but there's also plenty of other exercises mixed in. Boxing has been my favorite class so far because it's something I had never tried. Discovering it has been a fun experience that doesn't end up feeling like dragging myself to a gym for a class. I can't say too much about the yoga classes because I've only been to one, but it was alright. I'm much more interested in the circuit and boxing classes. The thing that really makes this gym special is the people. Since it's class based, you see the same people almost every time you go. They are a welcoming group and very encouraging. I was blown away that the group cheered me on as I finished my finisher in my first circuit class. Bill has made an awesome gym and an even better atmosphere and community to be a part of.

With Burn you get community, a sense of belonging, a connection with other women who are on a similar health journey and know how important support is... the coaches are kind, mindful, knowledgeable and free nutrition consultation as often as you need it, which is a huge bonus. Another huge bonus? My workouts have often been cancelled or cut short because of child care needs - Burn offers FREE childcare!!!! Sure, but what about the coaches? Before I started Burn last year I was experiencing chronic pain in my lower back, hips and knees. Most trainers in the past at similar gyms worked around the pain. Coaches Ben and David took the time to listen, understand my limitations and to modify workouts with one goal in mind - muscle development. In a few short weeks I felt my core and legs get stronger and not even a year later I live virtually pain free. Don't join Burn if you are looking for a gym.
