The thing that will probably draw you in is their cinnamon bun. They're very proud of it. And here's the thing - they have every right to be. It's a delicious cinnamon bun. It's not deep, but it's wide, which increases the amount of delicious inner coil, while reducing the amount of outer crust. They have a number of dairy-free pies, and will make other dairy-free options upon request. Now, a bakery having great treats is one thing, but that's an expected thing. Being committed to the community is something completely different. When I walked in, my family waiting outside, I didn't realize they were cash only. But did that keep me from the much needed cinnamon bun? No. It did not. Without payment, I left with warm cinnamon bun in hand. How did such a thing transpire? Did I distract them, and run away with glee? Indeed I did not. I was told to just come on by tomorrow and pay for it then. And, as it's always a nice walk through the Junction, I had no problem with that, whatsoever. That's the type of place you see in television shows depicting an era that never truly was. And yet, here it is. Right here. Right now. In Toronto.

Scone was $4.25, but it was quite sizeable! The Happy Bakers are around at local pop-ups like farmer's markets and I *think* they supply baked goods to Fairgrounds...I can be off tho. Did you know that just a stones throw north of…read moreLakeshore on the east side of Trafalgar there is a little sweet shop ('not' on the edge of town) making a big statement when it comes to cupcakes and cakes. A group of yelpers congregated here a warm sunny Sunday afternoon just over a week ago to take part in a 101 cupcake decorating class. Shop owner Kathy, aka the Oakville cupcake guru, walked us through how to decorate cupcakes in two different ways. Initially we learned how to load and tip a piping bag filled with her freshly made butter cream. Then using out tools we decorated our first cupcakes (a delicious dark chocolate) with the butter cream and an assortment of sprinkled toppings! For our second cupcake we got to learn how to colour, mold and design decoration for a cupcake out of fondant. Everyone picked a different colour and the end results were vibrant and uber creative for a bunch of baking rookies! While the classes aren't a regular feature, owner Kathy is incredibly flexible and with a call, I'm sure you could arrange a small class with her (we had 7 and it was tight). Perhaps a perfect idea for a birthday party! Sweetbites may be small but it's pushing out big flavour. They sell an assortment of flavour varieties but on any given day they also offer take away gourmet sandwiches and other lunch items for those in the area looking for a quick lunch! We learned how to decorate cupcakes with buttercream icing and fondant. Initially, we learned how to fill and pipe an icing bag with buttercream. Afterwards, we learned how to colour, mold, and cut the fondant. It was a lot of fun and even the guys had a blast learning too! These classes isn't something that Kathy usually does but I'm pretty sure you could ask her and set something up. The store is pretty small so you can probably fit about 5-6 of your friends for a decorating class. It's also pretty cheap for the class which we only paid $12. I learned that Sweetbites not only sell sweets (ie. cakes) but they also do lunches where they sell freshly made sandwiches and snacks.

The cake was spongy, and the cream cheese frosting was spread evenly. There are also two chairs by the front window but the overall space in the bakery is quite small so I wouldn't imagine a lot of customers staying to enjoy their drinks and baked goods there. We also got a latte and they offered to add cinnamon on top which was a nice touch. We also got the ham and cheese croissant which was good, but I wouldn't say that it's the best croissant ever. I never had the desire to visit their old location but I've had them bookmarked on Yelp, since forever. I walked in and the owner (I think) was speaking to a customer. I didn't mind waiting since I was trying to kill a bit of time anyways. The customer ahead of me was so considerate and asked if I was getting any "Serendipity" cupcakes because she was buying several of them. I wasn't, but how nice! Not only was the customer nice, but so was the owner! Such a pleasant experience with her. She's so lovely and sweet, she talks to everyone as if she's known them for years. I ended up getting a single cupcake for my gf for her bday, a vanilla cupcake for me and a Nutella cupcake for my bf. The owner even took it upon herself to tie a bow on the cupcake for my gf! So sweet! Cupcakes are very reasonably priced and cheaper than most places at 2.99 per cupcake. 6 or more cupcakes and there's no tax. Finally the cupcake review lol. Yummy! I actually really enjoyed the cake of the vanilla cupcake. It didn't crumble and was denser than most cakes but still moist. The icing is buttercream and it's very light and airy. Too be honest the star of the cupcake was the cake. Very nice. Since they've passed my vanilla cupcake test, I'm very curious to see what the red velvet tastes like. Can't wait to try it. Wishing this business all the success at their new location! :)
