About a year ago, I was having pain in my right shoulder. I am a Chiropractor and due to adjusting patients for the last 22 plus years, my joints have taken a beating. I developed pain in my shoulder after adjusting a large patient and from then on, for months, it hurt. I then made it worse by throwing baseball with my son. I have know Heather for several years, heard great things about her and finally decided to give her a try with my shoulder as I knew she had worked on many professional athletes in the past. Her massage is definitely not the Swedish fluffy kind of massage! She worked on the deep muscles around my shoulder and upper back and neck for the whole hour I was there. It was painful, as I expected it to be. but like one of the other people who had reviewed her had said, she is more like a physical therapist than just a "feel good massage" therapist. Within a few days my shoulder began to feel better and has since been fine. Whenever I have a difficult patients that is not responding completely by just adjusting them, I refer them to Heather for soft tissue work. As a runner, athlete, and someone who sits in front of a computer all day, Heather is a godsend. On the very first visit Heather was able to identify the knots and kinks in my back and neck. For the following few days those muscles she worked on where actually sore. It was the first time in a long time those back, and especially neck muscles, were able to release and not hold so much tension. I agree with some of the other comments on here; Heather is definitely more of a medical massage therapist. I would consider Heather more of a medical massage therapist. If you are looking for a slow light fluffy massage that puts you to sleep then this isn't it. If I didn't go see her every week I wouldn't be able to get up in the morning. She has worked on my lower back and hips every other week for over six months. My visits with her are a mix of pain and relief. I am a runner. I have run in over 20 marathons and because of this the damage to my body is extensive. heather hindmarsh is a certified massage therapist who specializes in working with runners, triathletes, and professional athletes. as a recreational runner, i've been seeing her for the past few years. she has been my saving grace, easing my body from the aches and pains that comes with running. since i live about an hour's away from her (yes she's that good and worth the drive), she has been more than accommodating when scheduling appointments with me. she's made herself available to see me well into the evenings and occassionally, even on sundays. at the start of each session she has me complete a questionnaire to assess my physical condition; i.e., identifying problem areas and what activities have i done that might be contributing to the symptoms. she'll then interview you to make sure she understands your responses. this is key for a person like me, who has a hard come describing my injuries. though she offers the standard massages (swedesh, deep tissue), she specializes in sports massages which are designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. it helps to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. its also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury. most recently, i've seen heather because i strained my hamstring. i saw my primary care physician who gave me a prescription for naproxen and told me not to do anything that hurts. after the disappointing drs visit, i immediately went to see heather. using homeopathic products and methods like trigger points and hot rocks, she not only help me identify and assess the damage, she relieved some of the pain and then, based on her professional experience, gave me specific advice on what i should and should not be doing. she recommended products like: * bath soaks (using queen helen bath therapy available at whole foods) * arnica montana pellets (5 pellets 3 times / day) to treat muscle soreness * hot rocks garden rocks boiled in hot water will suffice) to loosen the muscle * lavender oil - applied to the affected area before bedtime * magnesium supplements * biofreeze she even gave me some of the products to take home -- for free! she was immensely helpful, but to be sure i didn't do any severe damage to my hamstring (like tear it), i went to see a sports medicine dr who confirmed everything that heather thought the injury was, what things i should be doing and agreed that the products heather recommended would be beneficial to my recovery. after this experience, i became an even bigger fan of heather's (not that i wasn't before). one of the things i love most about her is that she doesn't stick to a "set routine" like many massage chains or day spas insist on doing. we've all had the experience where we ask the massage therapist to concentrate on a troubled area but they really can't because they feel they have to finish the scripted massage as described in the menu of services. heather doesn't believe in that. she really customizes each session based upon what the client is feeling that day. but one last thing -- i must forewarn you -- her massages are not for the faint-hearted. not-for-the-faint-hearted. they hurt. but in a good way. you will still feel the massage a day or two later but then you'll realize that your aches and pains have gone away. to find out more about information: http://www.heatherhindmarsh.com/ ** note: her web site is still a work in progress so her office phone is the best way to reach her. read more

I have been going to Heather Hindmarsh since 2002 or 2003, It's been so long now. She is definitely not your ordinary massage therapist. She's worked on great athletes such as Roger Clemens, Baron Davis, and many others that are too many to mention. I originally went to see her because my girlfriend had been in a really bad car wreck in college & had since been to so many Chiropractors and physical therapists literally from West to East Coast through out the years without getting much pain relief. Ever since she found Heather she was able to finally live without pain, and so I had to go see for my self, and got the opportunity when I started to develop carpal tunnel while working a desk job for the phone company at that time. Two visits later I was a convert! The carpal tunnel was gone, and never returned. Every time i have a physical ailment, I go see Heather, and I can honestly say that 9 times out of 10 she makes it better. I don't know how, but she does. I have referred many people from my gym that complain about injuries through out the years and some of them have become lifetime "patients'' of hers. Started going to Heather at the recommendation of my Chiropractor for hip pain relief. Hip pain was getting bad enough to where the Orthopedist recommended hip replacement surgery due to arthritis. Did not want to go that route and began treatment with Heather with the hope that she could keep me from the knife.
