Vegetarian food all tastes great providing that you like mushroom, tofu, soy based, and plant based ingredients. We order one Oden. Tri-cup rice, Zha Jiang noodle ( dry noodle mixed ). Flavors are to the point and not too salty and greasy. Once you ordered, they will deliver to your table but everything is in box. It's good for to go. Went here to browse all the organic, non-gmo, vegan options at the mart. There were so many items, frozen, ready to eat, dry goods, canned goods. I decided just to come back again soon to check out the aisles I didn't get to. I didn't order anything from the Cafe this time. Everything is vegan/vegetarian and organic. I will definitely be back! This quaint little market/food service place has been here for a long time! I haven't been in over 12 to 15 years so I wanted to stop by again! I can't recall what it used to look like but I do recall that it wasn't as nicely laid out as before....and now they have indoor seating for those who want to buy the food here and eat there.... I used to get stuff to go only.... Since I don't eat meat it is a really good place for me to grab a quick bite for my short lunch breaks that I take.... They have food they can cook or stuff that is already prepared.... I personally like their Radish Cakes and Cabbage Dumpling....it's ready to go... Summary: 5 stars for tasty and healthy Chinese vegan/vegetarian food, good service *** Super mom and pop Chinese grocery store located in a quiet commercial lot. The owners are friendly and bilingual. They sell vegan/vegetarian bread, rice milk drinks, cold side dishes, hot meals, snacks, fake meat, etc. You pay at the front, and you can choose to dine in. There is limited seating for parties of 2-4 inside. The dining area is small, but aesthetic. You bus your own table; trash can located near the door. I ate here once four years ago. My impression of Heartland was yummy, not too salty, and not too oily. Lots of vegan/vegetarian restaurants actually aren't healthy with the abundance of fried components, but this place tasted light and clean. I was happy to find that this was still the case. Service was great years ago; an owner came by offering drink samples. Today, they offered chocolate samples at the register. They were out of straws, but one of them came to our table and helped cut our drink lid off. She later found a paper straw and dropped it off. We were done with the drink by then, but it's the thought that counts! The only negative was that there was some sort of photo shoot going on. Perhaps social media footage? The production staff took up most of the entrance and dining area, which made the space cramped. I think they should have closed indoor dining. We wouldn't have minded taking our food to-go, as it was already packaged for such. However, I'm sure we were just unlucky with the timing today. DRINKS ORDERED - Black Sesame Rice Milk ($4.29). Just alright, but consistency is not too thick. You can taste the sesame, and it's not too sweet. - Organic Rice Milk with Almond. Tastes like ground up barley. - Grass Jelly. Refreshing and slightly minty. - Moringa and Chia Seed Rice Milk. Earthy, with texture from the gelatinized chia. FOOD ORDERED - Cabbage Dumpling ($3.25). Vegan half-moon shaped dumpling as large as a big empanada. The skin was chewy and perfect thickness. Inside was stuffed with a loose filling of chopped glass noodle, cabbage, and bean curd. The seasoning was very light, almost bland but not quite. It was served room temp, a little cold. Though it tasted good, it would have been better warmed up. - Double Spices Bean Curd ($5.95). This cold side dish was too salty for me without rice, but I thought the diced bean curd had a good chewy texture. Red and green chili peppers added some freshness in contrast with the pickled dry radish. - Lunch set from 2019 ($8-9). I recalled the portion being large enough to take home. The rice was chewy, and the veggie fish was good and crispy with an actual fishy flavor. - Bean Curd Bun Rice lunch set ($12.99). It's actually 2 sheets of braised bean curd, not a bun. The bean curd sheets were juicy from soaking up the sauce, which had light notes of soy sauce, black bean, medicinal herbal flavor, and vinegar. There was a thinly sliced medley of bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, and fake shredded pork that also tasted like the sauce. Lightly steamed or blanched broccoli lined the sides of the container. The multigrain rice was chewy, and the side of stir fried/boiled veggies (red and green cabbage, zucchini, corn, wood ear mushroom, fake fish ball, broccoli) was surprisingly umami. I appreciated that the sauces for each lunch set entree and vegetable side were not thickened with corn starch. (Sometimes I just get tired of that cooking style.) - Tri-cup Basil Chicken Rice lunch set ($12.99). The sauce tasted of ginger and soy, and not much of basil. While this wasn't the typical three cups chicken flavor, the fake meat had a deep roasted flavor. Meaty mushrooms stems and bell peppers were also included. Every time i come back i see that this place has faltered even more. Maybe today was a fluke but the people working the store seemed misinformed and distracted. I ordered the noodle soup which they were out of, and it wasn't until I drove there that they told me they were out. Then I ordered a rice noodle which was listed for $8.99 but was charged $10.99 for it. When I asked about it, the lady said the prices listed were outdated and needed to be updated..... Not sure how you can provide a menu with prices yet not follow those prices?? Anyways, the older lady (cashier) was eating food while helping me, and walked away eating her food while she explained the difference in price. read more

They did mentioned that they strive for organic and a lot of the sourcing and partnerships they have with products sold don't use pesticides albeit not with the organic label. Lots of vegetarian places will imitate the taste or the shape of meat to attract vegetarians, but it's unnecessary to me. I rather have the original food taste. I went in around 1:30pm on a Saturday, was fairly empty, ordered Okonomiyaki which is vegan and Oden which is vegetarian. Okonomiyaki was so-so tasting, fried pancake with cabbage and tiny bits of mushrooms. I wish it had the dried laver or seaweed on the top like the ones in Japan bed there was not any. I probably would not order again, but it is interesting to try. The Oden has some vegetarian Phish cakes, phish balls, tofu and Daikon. The clear broth is really blend, like warm salt water, could use more daikon or kelp in it. Dish is light and Good for a chilly day. Definitely recommend visiting this place if you want vegan groceries like frozen plant based shrimp, vegan sausages or vegan meats. They also carry a variety of organic vegetables which is a huge plus! I recommend trying the chilled plum drink that comes in the bottle, so refreshing and tasty, not too sweet, tartness comes through just nice. My family's vegan so we have been coming for almost 2 decades, yep I feel old but this store has carried me through high school tennis and medical school board exams. Some of this brain food includes: Vegan sushi bento Golden tofu, veggie fish, cabbage, brown rice bento cold noodles with peanut and sesame sauce and veggie ham: more veggies would be good Meatless jerky Brown rice puffs Pistachio wafers Algae and seaweed cold dish: chewy texture but could use more vegetables Green bean drink: a bit too sweet Recently, I wanted to treat my parents who love this place, I ordered an oden, cabbage and leek dumpling pockets, mapo tofu, curry chicken and braised noodle soup. The staff actually packaged everything beautifully and when we waited outside staff actually carried everything and brought them outside (social distancing at its finest). The quality and service have always been consistent. Their hot food section is generally healthy, with some options that are more processed like the oden. I wish there are entrees options with more vegetables, even without rice is fine. There's a lot of baked goods and right now it's the Taro Mooncakes, finally a yummy and not deathly sweet mooncake! There's also a savory Mochi taro chunk and scallion pancake/pizza pie. Their attention to quality of the grocery product is excellent! Large selection of veggies, vegan hotpot ingredients, basses, sauces. What stands out is that they hand packaged and meticulously label everything so it all feels very personal. Drove out of my way here. Arrived about an hour before close and couldn't order off the menu. I was able to purchase what the lady called "tempura", which was already made. It was packed in a box for me and room temperature. Didn't like one of the vegetables in the tempura, but I did like the texture and flavor. It was very reminiscent of fish cake. I also purchased a bag of soy pork floss, which was good and will probably last me forever. Tried going there a second time on Christmas Eve.
