Dark prune juice is really good. I love the jam. It's hot and ready to eat. Service is plus. They are very nice.

One of the very few places we can have some healthy food outside... @heartland_organic_cafe_mart it's all vegan and cooked really well. We've been here a few times and enjoyed everything there. We had a stir fried mushroom rice plate this time and some soup noodles. It left us feeling so full of good nutrition. Lovely quiet ambience to eat in. Bought an odd green drink as we left and it was soooo good! It was a lovely mildly sweet dessert to end off a nutritious meal.

It's more like 3.5 but I rounded up due to affordable pricing. The item I typically get is the vegan braised soup. I'm not sure why the soup is so oily, but if they can improve on that, it'll be awesome. Also, some umami is missing from the broth. I always feel like I need some type of condiment either like red vinegar, white pepper or something to enhance the flavor. It's got potential.. I feel like something is just missing. But the soy meat is SO GOOD!! it has the perfect texture and flavor.

Heartland Cafe & Mart is an organic vegetarian food store and restaurant. Conveniently located on Pierre road toward valley next to Walnut High School. Party of two adults and two kids entered the store. Seating is limited; estimated around 20. There is no server, we order our vegetarian dishes at the back. The lady in the back at check out counter is very friendly and offer free snack samples to our kids. Vegetarian food all tastes great providing that you like mushroom, tofu, soy based, and plant based ingredients. We order one Oden. Tri-cup rice, Zha Jiang noodle ( dry noodle mixed ). Flavors are to the point and not too salty and greasy. Once you ordered, they will deliver to your table but everything is in box. It's good for to go. Overall the restaurant and store is clean, modern, and welcoming. We will be back shopping organic food products and eat lunch.

One of my favorite organic vegetarian cafes & stores. I've been there for a few years and it's like a hidden gem in Walnut. I'm not a Buddhist but I like to get their lunch and snacks there sometimes.

It was delicious, thank you! I definitely will consider ordering food here. It was so good that you can taste that it was prepared with alot heart and smile.

This quaint little market/food service place has been here for a long time! I haven't been in over 12 to 15 years so I wanted to stop by again! I can't recall what it used to look like but I do recall that it wasn't as nicely laid out as before....and now they have indoor seating for those who want to buy the food here and eat there.... I used to get stuff to go only.... Since I don't eat meat it is a really good place for me to grab a quick bite for my short lunch breaks that I take.... They have food they can cook or stuff that is already prepared.... I personally like their Radish Cakes and Cabbage Dumpling....it's ready to go... I will come back every once in awhile now for a quick lunch bite....

Summary: 5 stars for tasty and healthy Chinese vegan/vegetarian food, good service *** Super mom and pop Chinese grocery store located in a quiet commercial lot. The owners are friendly and bilingual. They sell vegan/vegetarian bread, rice milk drinks, cold side dishes, hot meals, snacks, fake meat, etc. You pay at the front, and you can choose to dine in. There is limited seating for parties of 2-4 inside. The dining area is small, but aesthetic. You bus your own table; trash can located near the door. I ate here once four years ago. My impression of Heartland was yummy, not too salty, and not too oily. Lots of vegan/vegetarian restaurants actually aren't healthy with the abundance of fried components, but this place tasted light and clean. I was happy to find that this was still the case. Service was great years ago; an owner came by offering drink samples. Today, they offered chocolate samples at the register. They were out of straws, but one of them came to our table and helped cut our drink lid off. She later found a paper straw and dropped it off. We were done with the drink by then, but it's the thought that counts! The only negative was that there was some sort of photo shoot going on. Perhaps social media footage? The production staff took up most of the entrance and dining area, which made the space cramped. I think they should have closed indoor dining. We wouldn't have minded taking our food to-go, as it was already packaged for such. However, I'm sure we were just unlucky with the timing today. DRINKS ORDERED - Black Sesame Rice Milk ($4.29). Just alright, but consistency is not too thick. You can taste the sesame, and it's not too sweet. - Organic Rice Milk with Almond. Tastes like ground up barley. - Grass Jelly. Refreshing and slightly minty. - Moringa and Chia Seed Rice Milk. Earthy, with texture from the gelatinized chia. FOOD ORDERED - Cabbage Dumpling ($3.25). Vegan half-moon shaped dumpling as large as a big empanada. The skin was chewy and perfect thickness. Inside was stuffed with a loose filling of chopped glass noodle, cabbage, and bean curd. The seasoning was very light, almost bland but not quite. It was served room temp, a little cold. Though it tasted good, it would have been better warmed up. - Double Spices Bean Curd ($5.95). This cold side dish was too salty for me without rice, but I thought the diced bean curd had a good chewy texture. Red and green chili peppers added some freshness in contrast with the pickled dry radish. - Lunch set from 2019 ($8-9). I recalled the portion being large enough to take home. The rice was chewy, and the veggie fish was good and crispy with an actual fishy flavor. - Bean Curd Bun Rice lunch set ($12.99). It's actually 2 sheets of braised bean curd, not a bun. The bean curd sheets were juicy from soaking up the sauce, which had light notes of soy sauce, black bean, medicinal herbal flavor, and vinegar. There was a thinly sliced medley of bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, and fake shredded pork that also tasted like the sauce. Lightly steamed or blanched broccoli lined the sides of the container. The multigrain rice was chewy, and the side of stir fried/boiled veggies (red and green cabbage, zucchini, corn, wood ear mushroom, fake fish ball, broccoli) was surprisingly umami. I appreciated that the sauces for each lunch set entree and vegetable side were not thickened with corn starch. (Sometimes I just get tired of that cooking style.) - Tri-cup Basil Chicken Rice lunch set ($12.99). The sauce tasted of ginger and soy, and not much of basil. While this wasn't the typical three cups chicken flavor, the fake meat had a deep roasted flavor. Meaty mushrooms stems and bell peppers were also included. My bf and I also took home some leftovers to stretch into a second meal.

Literally the best vegetarian food I ever tasted . I am not a vegetarian but I come here for their lunch often It's so tasty and doesn't make me sluggish after meal. I think probably because all their ingredients are organic. I feel so healthy when I eat here The staff and owners are super friendly. The owner greets all the customers whenever I am in the store 10/10 would recommend

Huge shoutout to the owner, Cat, who was so amazing to work with and made the whole night feel extra special. Great food, front-of-house needs a bit of work…read more.. We made reservations for Mother's Day brunch a week ahead and thankfully we did as they had booked up at least 1 or 2 days before. Parking is super easy as it's in a plaza and shares a big lot with other businesses. They had a special menu, so I'm not too sure what is and is not part of their usual menu, but this is what we ordered: 1. Baltimore Crab Cakes (comes with 2): we were pleasantly surprised as it came with a side salad; the crab cakes themselves were not dry at all and came with a good amount of crab. Delicious, 5/5 2. Heirloom tomato and stone fruit salad: one of the things they pride themselves on is sourcing their ingredients locally and sustainably. You can really tell with this dish that all of their ingredients are really high-quality and fresh. The stonefruit was super sweet. The price ($18) was a bit high for the portion size, so this was a 4/5 for us. 3. Crab & tonnarelli: really good cook on the pasta; my husband is really picky on pasta that's overcooked, but this came to us perfectly al dente. There was a good amount of crab as well, so we appreciated that they didn't skimp. That said, the taste was a bit one-toned and underseasoned, which is a lot coming from us since we typically complain about food being too salty. If it came with a bit more salt, it would've been one of our favorites. 3.5 (maybe 4)/5 4. Pork sisig and garlic rice: we love sisig, so we had to order it. While it was super flavorful and delicious, we couldn't finish it on the spot since it was pretty salty and we were getting full. We did take it home and cook some more vegetables into it to dilute the salt a bit. 4/5 5. Ricotta cheese pancakes: super fluffy and airy, you can tell why they need 20 minutes to prep them. Again, the fruit they used was super fresh and sweet. Loved, no notes. 5/5 Service-wise, there were some hiccups with our orders. Our salad came to us without the burrata and when we asked them about it, it took about 3-4 people double-checking their menu to confirm it actually came with burrata, then a handful more minutes to rectify it. It seemed strange to me that they were unfamiliar with their own menu. Our pork sisig dish came out much later than every other dish and our waiter had to check up on it a few times, so it may have just gotten missed. There seemed to be a lot of people working in the front, but somehow hard to flag them down and get helped when we needed it. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as it was Mother's Day and I'm sure it was busier than usual. Our waiter was also gracious in comping a drink as a result of the long wait for the sisig. Overall, we'll still come back as we want to try other dishes and we do appreciate the freshness of the ingredients and their integration of vegetables with dishes, which can sometimes be hard to come by. Just wanted to provide some feedback on service in hopes they'll take it constructively.

Highly recommend this. Chicken Satay: This is our other favorite dishes. The chicken is tender and well seasoned. This is a great alternative for their popular crying tiger in terms of the portion and pricing. Papaya Salad: I was a bit disappointed with this. The papaya salad is lack of flavoring (specifically the garlic taste). It's not very marinated. Tom Yum Soup: We got a small bowl of the seafood tom yum soup. The portion is great for 2 people, but don't expect too much seafood from it. The flavor is good, so it's still a great soup option. Non-Sweet Sticky Rice: Unlike other places, their sticky rice is served as a dessert, you can still taste the coconut flavor. Most other traditional Thai places serve sticky rice as unsweetened and plain (i.e., jasmine rice soaked overnight). Not really mad about this. The service was absolutely amazing. We made a reservation ahead of time to avoid waiting in line. I'm glad we did because there were already people waiting when we arrived at 6pm. The restaurant is very clean and cozy. There were plenty of parking as it's in a shared plaza. For the store, it's a moderate size but it was definitely busy at the time we went. American Express is accepted as a payment option. The staff gave us a number to place on the table we sat at but we were free to grab any seat we liked. For seating, there were a few tables for parties of two and limited tables for bigger groups. Keep in mind if you need water or extra napkins, they'll have those near the bar seating. Both the Pink Vodka Pasta and Rich Miso Pasta exceeded our expectations! The miso pasta leans on the creamy side but pairs very well with the pink vodka pasta. The miso pasta didn't come with any protein by default, so we were glad that we added the Taiwanese sausage. Fun fact is that the meatball from the Pink Vodka Pasta is vegan! The portion size was super generous from both dishes and was beyond just two people. I wasn't expecting to discover pasta dishes that I'd consider as one of my favorites from this visit! Fresh, clean, and reasonably priced; it's the kind of spot that earns a regular spot in your rotation without putting a dent in your wallet. If you're only going to take one piece of advice, let it be this: order the vegan breakfast burrito. It is filling in the best possible way, the kind of meal that carries you through the whole day and has you already thinking about the next visit before you've even finished it. It just hits the spot. The crispy cauliflower is worth every bite too... perfectly done and the kind of dish that makes you forget you're eating something good for you. And the house salad? Refreshing, simple, and a solid reminder that when ingredients are quality, you don't need to overthink it. For anyone navigating dietary needs, Green Tomato Grill quietly delivers. Excellent gluten free options, solid vegan choices, and a menu that doesn't make you feel like an afterthought for having them. Whether you're plant based, gluten free, or just looking for something lighter that doesn't sacrifice flavor, this place has you covered. Service isn't going to blow you away, nothing overly warm or memorable, but they take care of you quickly and efficiently and honestly sometimes that's exactly what you need. This is a very cute restaurant for breakfast/brunch! We came to try it on a Wednesday lunch…read more We ordered steak and eggs, the steak was not good, very rough. I wish they charge more but give a better quality steak. But the way they flavored the steak was very good!! Then we ordered the smoked salmon benny, very delicious! Loved everything about this dish! I would come back for this! We also ordered their signature dessert, Dutch baby, it tasted exactly like bread pudding. It was good but not what I imagined how it would taste. So trying once was enough for me. Service was attentive! Everything else was great. Will be back occasionally!

Let me start with the coffee and hazelnut latte, amazing. We were seated quickly, which was nice,…read morebut then it took about 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Servers kept walking past our table without checking in and honestly looked kind of lost or wandering around aimlessly. Luckily they keep water pitchers on the tables already filled, which now makes perfect sense considering how long it takes to get service. Smart move on their part. I ordered the avocado toast with a side of bacon, and my husband ordered the chorizo skillet. The coffees and my food came out quickly, but his never did. Instead, we watched an older server walk around the restaurant with his skillet and bacon, stopping at multiple tables asking if it belonged to them. Twice she set it down at other tables before being told it wasn't theirs. The third time, she finally brought it to us. That seems like it should be a health issue, what if someone else had stuck their fingers in it not knowing. By then, my husband didn't even want it anymore because it had already been sitting in front of other people. To their credit, they remade it, but then we waited another 15 minutes for his food while I had already finished eating. We actually watched another couple sitting next to us get so frustrated because their order was completely forgotten. After waiting forever with no food and barely any acknowledgment, they eventually just got up and left. Overall, cute spot and really good coffee, but the service was incredibly disorganized and the food mix-up was a huge turnoff. Unfortunately, we won't be back.
